I was not aware that there is some sort of condition of being a reservist that they will only be called upon to defend the country, not go abroad.

While I am not a fan of international expeditions, I do think that those who volunteer for military service are obligated to fulfill their duties. Within the bounds of the law, of course (i.e., no human rights violations, a la Mai Lai).
