They've changed a lot since the Vietnam days. You people should look it up when you register for the selective service. College students get a 6 month deferment I believe. Other things that kept richer white people from being drafted have also been changed.
Occupying large swaths of the Middle East? I certainly hope not. Anyway, it wouldn't be alone. Currently Japan is debating sending its SDF (5th most expensive military in the world, I believe?) to help occupy Iraq, if the need arises. I thought that was interesting at least.
Draft people for an occupation? If Afghanistan is any indication (and it might or might not be), there won't be *too* many willing to die for their country after the leadership is destroyed.
I'm still hoping war can be averted... but one must always prepare for the worst.
