Well that is part of the inner city poverty thing I wrote about. They are more likely to be poor and one of the few ways to make money would be crime. I think for a large part US gun violence is criminal vs criminal as well (or gang vs gang, but that is more or less the same thing).

Saw the posts afterwards. I think the only reason you notice the white young male shooting up a school thing, is because it happens in the suburbs and is therefore more "important" to the "general" American public.
Serial killers are far and few between. You get 3-4 a year max, but the inherent horror factor means there's more publicity for them than for some gangbangers shooting up some other gangbangers in some Midwest shithole.

They don't, but the fact that they have these weapons do not make it more likely that they will use it. I think it strokes the average american's ego that they can own a piece of apparatus that can kill or maim dozens of people. I'd wager that less than 1% of the guns owned by suburban middle class people ever gets fired in anger.
It does make it more likely that shooting sprees (of the going "postal" kind) happen, seeing as here people will go look for a fight in a pub or something to get it out of their system, instead of using their semiautomatic.

True, it is the same here. When I lived in Longsight, Manchester (which is prolly about as rough an area as you are going to get in the UK), there were 3 fatal shootings (drug related) within 200yds of my house in the year i stayed there. You'd think that this'd be big news in Manchester at the very least, but it didn't warrant a mention on the local news, and was only on page 5 or so of the local paper.
Now if some little white girl goes missing, the whole country goes in panic mode even it just turns out she ran off somewhere.
