You are revealing that you have more knowledge in this area than you should. I certainly don't fit this stereotype - I'm the long-haired, metal T-shirt-wearing type who is sorely in need of a shave. That's a different stereotype.

Okay dudes real question: Don't most RPG fans fit this "I'm the long-haired, metal T-shirt-wearing type who is sorely in need of a shave." stereotype?

At least in Greece they do.

I guess the fantasy genre does appeal to guys who look like Aragorn. (or think they do)

And with LOTR being popular this trend will extend to all walks of life...

For example:
While visiting my friend's house some weeks ago, a gang of 6 kids ran out of the apartment block all with plastic swords.
One yelled to his buddy "You can be Aragorn, but I wanna be Legolas!"

Totally cool!
LOTR has recaptured these kid's imaginations from the world of PS2 and TV...And that is a good thing!

I don't understand.

I've got the impression from your posts that fantasy fans are embarassed for their interests.

I think most of the comments were in good humour.

Like any social hobby, in the RPG or fantasy comic world you get those who are dedicated to it (like yourself)
and those fakes who you would not that sit and have a pint with (the geeks)...

I deal with comics and fantasy art people on a regular basis, and while I can 'turn off' the fantasy comic person mode, some nerds cannot.

I know that dude.

I meant the general impression.

In Greece you see we have a different kind of critisism.

It is called "Orthodox priests bombarding the media about how satanic and evil fantasy hobies are".

But admitedly thats rare.

I always laugh at the line some religious leaders take about fantasy hobbies.

*rant mode on*

What do they want?
The kids wo delve in to the happy 'real-world' with drugs, porn and all the other crap from our society.

More likely they want the kids (and everyone, for that matter) to bow and follow their human church of cash-worship.

Fantasy is a better escape.

*rant mode off*

No curt. You see it was not my faith that i felt offended.

Actually i am an atheist-of sorts.I support the orthodox church, its institutions, its functions, its people, but not its preachings.

Men make their own fate. What we term as God i see as moral guidelines. The personification of these morals takes the form of Christ in the western religions. But this is just my point of view.Any man knows deep inside him what is decent and right, christian, muslim or whatever.
One could very well live an honourably life, without being a devout worshiper.

What i perceived as offense was the implication of clergymen as "unethical".All(well most) priests i know are good decent, honourable folk.Unfortunately these days many people are attacking the church for no other reason but to be politicaly correct. Denial of religions seems to be trendy in our times.

Pericles, Respect!

There are many religions, and many people involved.

Nope, I would not make a blanket statement against anybody's beliefs.

I just feel scorn for those zealous fundy types who attack something like RPG hobbies,
when we have drugs, porn and a myriad other real problems out there.

I wish no offense to any honest religious folk, only the people who use religion as a tool to control.
