hey, could someone make me a French St. Chamond tank? nemo-esque, too, please! thanks!

"The St. Chamond suffered from having been built in a hurry. Holt - type tractor parts made up the suspension and a simple box body was built on top, featuring a terrifying amount of overhang at each end. The major technical innovation was the use of a petrol - electric transmission system, which, it was hoped would give better handling qualities than a mechanical transmission."

Suffering from ads?

Here's a pair of very bad French WWI tanks: the Char d'Assaut St. Chamond, as requested, and it's sister, the Char d'Assaut Schneider. One or both will appear in Warlords of China, which MIGHT be finished by the end of the summer.

Both tanks shared the Holt tractor undercarriage, which was far too small for the size of the machines. The result was they tended to get stuck pretty often, especially when traversing trenches and shell holes. As these activities were the raison d'etre of WWI tanks, this rendered them pretty much useless, so they ended the war as supply carriers.

The St. Chamond was notable for a gasoline/electric motor system which, unfortunately, added an extra 5 tonnes to its weight, rendering it almost immobile. The Schneider was notable for poorly protected gas tanks, which, unfortunately, caused it to blow up regularly.

Despite their poor specs, they're both offbeat and pretty cool, which is why I'm thinking of including them them in W of C.

Note to Art of War: I didn't camo these, 'cause I'm not sure what you're using them for exactly. Hope they're what you need.

AofW: I lengthened the St Chamond by 6 pixels, which is more accurate, based on a side view I've found. It also gives a better feeling for the serious design flaw which made this beast so difficult to manouver.

I also found a right side view of the Schneider, and discovered a short 75mm gun mounted on the front plate on the right hand side, so that's been added too.

I've done camo versions and an unpainted (rusty) metal version in Warlord colors.

I haven't. If you're looking for French planes, I'v made a Nieuport 17 and Spad XIII and I have a Breguet 14 bomber. There's also a Caudron GIII in the works.

I'm afraid my allotted civ time is all filled at the moment, but if you're prepared to wait I may have a go.

Hey Fairline . . . . Inflate your Upload Space

I was just wondering, have you ever created any steamship graphics? If so, I would sure like to see them.

I really like all the superb graphics that show up on these threads, and every designer adds that much more to the well we all drink from, but your stuff is very good.

I've thought once or twice about revamping some of the graphics for Imperialism 1870. If you've got anything that you think might look good, by all means let me know.

I haven't, Exile. Just for my own amusement I did make up a unit graphics file for Imperialism 1870 some time ago which you're welcome to look at - there may be one or 2 things you like enough to use. BTW, I do this with all the scenarios I enjoy playing, and it's no reflection on the quality of the original units - I just enjoy making up alternatives.

It's cool, Fairline. Henrik did the same thing to my old scen Modern Age. He even sent me the unit mix gif. I've still got it. lol. I do the same thing sometimes. I sure would be interested in seeing your unit mix for Imp1870. I think that my email is easy enough to locate. If it's not here on ACS, then it should be in any of my scen readme files at the very end of the document. Go ahead and send the file--I'm curious.

Secondary statement; Oddly enough, I am conscious of the fact that I tend to utilize older, even default graphics in some cases. Not sure why I feel the need to explain this, but I will anyway. Sometimes, and with certain unit graphics, it's the graphic itself that is the source of inspiration. For example, at one point, I liked the musketeer, galleon, and frigate units. However, I found that I rarely built or used these units in the default game--the tech race just moved too fast to waste time building these units. By the time I was able to put together a good-sized fleet or army, they were on the verge of going obsolete. Dissatisfaction. Frustration.

Time to re-make the game just the way I want it to play.

I would like to make a request to the honourable Fairline!

Could I ask for 3 American 1860s units?

Just a Union troop, a cavalry rider and a sword-waving officer?
