Most of you are aware of the talk about an inter-site game with some of the other civ sites out there. OmniMower of CDgroups has extended a formal invitation.

A small group of us have committed to forming a team, including Kloreep, GhengisFarb, adaMada, realpolitic, and myself. We clearly could use a larger, and thus by definition, more talented team. Looking for civ3 talent, I thought that the best place to post this thread was here, in the demo game forum, given the folks involved. I will also ask Mark to place a notice item on the main board.

The game will not be starting for a month or two. There are a lot of details to iron out before it gets going. The game will be pbem.

I am willing to be Apolyton's representative in the pre-game discussions, and to set the team up. I propose elections then be used to determine key positions on the team. I have posted at CDgroups that I will be Apolyton's contact during the pre-game period. We will need a closed forum here on Apolyton in order to play effectively.

So, fellow Apolytonians - we know how good we are - let's show the world!!!

I would be interested., but my involvement in the regular and PTW demogames currently take up a a fair of my time. Possbly a lot more time as the PTW game goes on. If the current regulare demogame were to finish by then (not likely, unless we go diplomatic victory attempt) then I would definately have enough time.

Thank you one and all! The response is encouraging. But to be honest - I expected as much.

Thud - what does being ambassador to to 1BC entail? Is this - this being the pre-game 'negotations' - something you would or should be involved in given your status??

In a couple days when I get the initial response, I will ask for input on game preferences - ie difficulty level - should AI civs be included - those kinds of things - and the one issue which seems to be creating quite a discussion - how spying should work.

Some, on the other sites, have gone so far as to suggest that spying should go beyond the game mechanics and should include trying to get players accepted as other team's members to gain knwoledge, even be involved in decisions that would aid the home team.

My view is that this is pure nonsense. It will encourage DL's, and all the crap that goes along with them. If one really wants to cheat in pbem, we all know how to do it. So - my view - and I would like to hear others' - is play by the game rules, within the game - and all teams and players commit to playing fairly. Until a bullet-proof pbem system comes along (and that may be never) we don't have much choice to do otherwise. Honor - the best way to go.

I'm afraid I wouldn't call myself "committed", as I doubt I'd be all that active, but I'm definitely interested. And I agree with you; no cheating or spying.

I dont think he meant it that way Ghengis, but I'm sure you know that...

On another note, the comments about the other sites encouraging "out-of-game" spying is something we had to deal w/in our own PTW demo game, is it not?

Going beyond the conventions of the game is tempting, but I really say nay, and I don't think we should participate if they go on that path. It's really not very sportsmanlike (yes I know we play a game, not a sport) but who knows, someone might try an espionage tactic and fry our President's computer with a virus or something. That would definetely affect things. They would be idiots due to the time delay on the game, but I've found that alot of people are indeed:idiots. Who knows what underhanded things ppl will come up with.

On joining the game, but only if out of game spying is against the rules...

Although I think all the PTW teams are taking it on seriously, (because face it, no one wants to lose) , but our original goal WAS for all of apolyton demo gamers to play against the other sites. At least that was my impression...

Sorry - didn't mean it quite like you have phrased it.

In my note, I said "larger, and thus by definition, MORE talented team". Believe me - I sweated over the wording here. MORE implies there was talent to start with.



And thanks to the others who have come on board. And yes, I will be hard-line about no 'out of game' spying. My sense is that would be most people's preference.

Welcome gentlemen. Thank-you for your interest.

Apolyton will be the site, obviously for our team. I will be approaching Mark shortly to set up the appropriate forum. We can then discuss game rules and parameters and I can take the team's preferences to the inter-site discussion.

Discussions on the game parameters are in the very early stages and are being held on 1BC. It is not clear where the 'common' site - whatever that will actually entail - will be. Under discussion.
