95! Ok, it's not unheard of...but very, very rare. The summers are around 60-80 (the pacific wind on the
peninsula keeps the temps mild...of course, inland it bakes during the summer - but like MRT said, it's a dry heat.

Well Calgary is a great city with a growing IT sector and seems to have a reasonable sized Indian population but I think it may be a bit too cold in the winter here for your needs.

Ottawa has a large IT sector but I think it is still hurting from the massive layoffs from when Nortel got into difficulty--perhaps someone else has a better sense on this

I think my current wage would translate to 50k, so im looking for 60+

Definitely don't undersell yourself. $60k is peanuts for somebody with a degree and good experience, anywhere in the US.

Also consider the tax differential of Canada v. the US.

Palo Alto has the most pleasant weather I've ever encountered.

Sorry MRT, just noticed your post.

Actually, Palo Alto is currently in a hiring freeze until this summer I think. But my partner found his job by having a recruiter contact him. He posted his resume' on several sites (monster.com and dice.com). After a few months, he was contacted my a recruiter concerning an IT position with the City of Palo Alto (at the time, we were living in North Carolina! ). He went through the interview process, was offered the job, so we moved to California.

So my advice is to post your resume on both monster.com and dice.com and see what happends - what do you have to loose?

SO true! Those days in June were just fine were I live at (only got up to 82 MAX IIRC). Yes the marine layer can be a God-send at times, but at other times we will be in a blanket of fog, while just 2 miles away, it's blue skies!

the only problem i have with palo alto is there is a lot of elitism there and that god awful stanford mall. it sticks out like a sore thumb in that city. downtown palo alto is so charming though...

Yes, UR Silicon Valley is one of the most expensive places to live in the US.

But remember - You want to "work" in Silicon Valley, not "live" there.

EDIT: MRT is correct, Silicon Valley is not located on the East Bay, but rather on the lower pennsula.

Here's a background...

IndUs Entrepreneurs, whose members include the leading Indian software engineers in Silicon valley, claims that 30% of the software engineers in the Valley are of Indian origin.

That is borne out by AnnaLee Saxenian, an economist at the University at California at Berkeley, who maintains there are 750 Silicon Valley companies run by Indians.

The Silicon Valley Indian Professional Association (SIPA) has over 1800 members.

Its President Elect Mahesh Nagarajaiah says, "the present economic downturn is having a great effect on Indian engineers because many of them work in the IT sector which is suffering because every company seems to be cutting their IT budgets."

But with low unemployment, SIPA's Mr Nagarajaiah says its members are finding jobs even if it takes a little longer than usual.

"Last year a software engineer was getting four and five job offers a day, today it probably takes a month to get maybe one or two offers. It is no longer an employees market."

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

"City, of reasonable size
Good size Indian population (S.Asian)
Plenty of IT jobs
Not too hot in the summer
Nice place to bring my 2 year old kid up
plent to do"

The Washington DC area meets all of those criteria, but it does get a really hot summer once in a while. If you choose to live in DC area be careful though, some of the areas are not so good neihberhoods and you might want to check them out first.

MRT, like Dan already stated: Dont's sell yourself short.

Even though you are only 19 and have had only 3 jobs; you should still assemble a resume' - The resume' is a document this is constantly changing, it is never really finished - it just grows along with your experience.

My suggestion to you would be to place your resume on Monster and Dice. Visit those sites - fill out the forms, and see what happends. Like I stated earlier, What do you have to loose but a little bit of your time? Who knows, you might just get a few bites.

You make a good point Dan. Yes, the current job market is not an employee's market...but it will not remain that way (at least I hope not!). This can change in 6 months to a year from now...

Actually UR, my partner and I both live in SF. He works in Palo Alto. His commute is about a 40 minute drive (taking the I-280 of course - avoid the I-101 at all costs! ). So the commute is not bad at all.

wittlich, its us101 isnt it? but yeah, i have a 30 minute drive to work in san bruno from where i live in foster city. i take 101 though because its 5 extra miles on 280 and basicly that adds up to 50 more miles a week.

You are correct MRT, I just wanted to make it clear to non-Californians that the 101 and 280 are highways, not regular roads...that's why I labled them with an "I" even though they are not interstate highways.

The 101 just has too much traffic on it for my taste...but I can see why you take the 101 vice the 280.
