No, it would mean investing in infrastructure and equipment so that they can grow their own food.

"Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime."

In fact, just removing the huge subsidies that both US and the EU give to their farmers would go a long way to alleviating world hunger. The developing nations would actually have an export that makes them money, instead of having to rely on the IMF and handouts from more prosperous nations.

Now there's a waste of money, paying people not to grow things.

Willem....or, we could just send them luggage!

Hard to grow much in the desert. I mean, we've got some sturdy strains of wheat (courtesy of Doc's Waste-o-time science and all), but they do need a LITTLE water....

But....the fact is that nobody (no government) is gonna just dole out money and tell yonder dictator "you...go build infrastructure for your people."

I wish we could...but it don't work that way, and troops would be necessary to ensure stuff got done, or, to ensure the safety of our own experts we send over to make SURE stuff gets done.

Doc, no need to go at it from another direction. You've got all the answers...clearly.

Absolutely everything people have brought to your attention has been cast aside, BY YOU as BS....so yep....I have concluded that it is not cost-effective to try and convince you otherwise.

Why do you think it's called the International Space Station. In case you haven't heard, Russia, Canada, Japan, just to name a few, all have made some contribution to it. The US just happens to be in the position of having the most money to spare towards it.

They've discovered that there's a lot of water on both the moon and Mars. That leaves open the possibility of people someday living on both bodies. This discovery on Mars in particular would never have been made if it wasn't for NASA.

Oh yes, I forgot the Europa, the moon orbiting Jupiter that just may support life beneath it's frozen crust. We wouldn't ever have known that without the space program.

I'd say that pretty exciting stuff myself.

Full PM-box? Change here!

Not trying to be mean, Doc....but every point that I and a great many others have made (and we're not talking conjectural stuff either, look at the recently posted links) have been unilaterally ignored and cast aside as BS.

So....what's left to say?

You have your opinion, and are welcome to it. A lot of people, however, hold a markedly different one.

We've given you all sorts of reasons but you refuse to acknowledge any of it! Frankly, I think you have the honour of being the most closeminded person I've ever come across on Apolyton. I feel sorry for you, I really do. You're incapable of seeing the potential of what mankind can be. You're like a small child who plays with a cardboard box, after opening the really cool toy it's parents bought it. You simply fail to see the wonder in our destiny.

And yes it is our destiny. Someday we actually will send a space ship to Alpha Centauri. Provided people like you don't end up running this world. If that happens, we'll be trapped here if a killer asteroid does ever come our way, and we won't stand a chance.

hey hey hey, lets not forget the whole pursuit of science and knowledge. That is what I live for. That is the main purpose of NASA, I believe. Thanks to the Hubble space telescope, Apollo program, numerous probes, we've learned incredible things about the solar system and universe within which we exist. I can understand you holding the value of life above materialistic stuff, but this knowledge is priceless to me.

Ramo, private corporations in other countries were free to persue such technologies. They didn't. There is no reason to believe that short-sighted American corporations would have been any different.

Research in other industrialized states, in general, has been heavily state-subsidized as well... It's been pretty universal in the West and Japan. The reason that the US has been coming up with all of these innovations is simply because the US has been so much stronger in terms of available resources to carry out the research.

Is that clear
