Inter-Lego PBEM game Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

What do you think about starting an inter-lego PBEM game? It would have similar parameters with the real PtW demo game (continents, etc) and we'd play with the same civs, chosen randomly.

Who would be in?

----------------

Game settings
- AI's: NO
- accelerated production: NO
- regular victory conditions
- difficulty: regent (maybe we can avoid the chieftain bug, with the help of Vondrack)
- map size: standard
- Landmass: continents
- age: 4 billion
- climate: temperate
- barbarians: the standard option, whatever it is (raging?, I'm not sure)
- culture flips: ON
- preserve random seed: ON
- Available civs: all civs

Players

In playing order:

1. Sharpe
sarnott(NOSPAM)@mountaincable.net (remove the "(NOSPAM)" )
playing hours: 00:00 - 04:00 GMT
civ: Ottomans

2. quantum_mechani
roysfamily@alaska.net
playing hours: 03:00 - 06:00 GMT
civ: Greeks

3. redstar1
david.archibaldREMOVE@btinternet.com
playing hours: 9:00 - 22:00 GMT.
civ: Germans

4. Kloreep
benNO@surveypointSPAM.com (remove NO and SPAM).
playing hours: 19:00 - 05:00 GMT.
civ: Egypt

5. lmtoops
lmtoopsREMOVE@yahoo.com
playing time: 00:00 - 05:00 GMT.
civ: Japan

6. Tiberius
tibi.k_NOSPAM_@xnet.ro (remove _NOSPAM_)
playing hours: 17:00 - 22:00 GMT
civ preferences: Arabs

7. ZargonX
jhaddockTAKETHISOUT@crunchable.net
playing hours: 20:00 - 07:00 GMT
civ: Persia

----------

ATTENTION
For those who never played PBEM with PtW, some basic rules to avoid the known bugs:

1. Load the games only from the main menu, and NOT from within a game, otherwise it loads as a single (no MP) game and you can see other players' maps.

2. NEVER follow this sequence: Play a few moves, save your turn, quit the game, load again your turn, finish turn, send the save! Exploiting this bug is cheating, because basically you get a one turn mini golden age! (extra shields + commerce for that turn)

Radek, you are more skilled/experienced in PBEM bugs , is there something I forgot?

I am sorry, Tibi, but I am currently spending so much time on my Poly activities that I do not think it would be wise to take upon yet another PBEM game. Nope, I would not be in...

I would play. I'm in two other PBEM games (1 is just starting). But I have the time.

That makes 3 so far. We need a few more.

So we are 3 so far. Let's wait a day or two for the other active team members, and then decide how to do it.

Btw, lmtoops, is there still place in your other PBEM game? I'm involved in only one game now, and lately I'm not in the mood to play against the AI

Sounds interesting - I would be able and interested to play if you would be willing to tolerate a person who can only play their turn during the evenings (7-11pm EST , GMT -5 so I am guessing that would be 0000-0400 GMT).

Though, I would probably would be blown to bits even more than Kloreep...

Full PM-box? Change here!

Tiberius, we have one spot open. The thread is

http://www.apolyton.net/forums/show...=88#post1698894

It in the PBEM forum and the thread title is Team-Based Game. We are trying something different. You have a partner in the game (choosen randomly). You and your partner can coordinate activities. Tech trading is ONLY between partners. We are still figuring out the details. Respond quick because that space can fill up and I have not control over it.

lmtoops, in the latest list from your link, there were already 6 players listed so I think there's no more place.

Anyway, it's great that we are 6 already Does anyone have experience in setting up PBEM games? Or maybe should we choose a neutral "administrator/moderator"? Radek?

Suffering from ads?

For the beginning, we should coordinate our playing hours and some data (like address):

Mine would be: 5 PM - 9 PM GMT
Email: tibi.k_NOSPAM_@xnet.ro (remove _NOSPAM_)

One question: should we use the regular PBEM forum or post in here? Or maybe the more sensitive comments here and the "turn sent" things in the PBEM forum? What do you think?

Heh, this will actually be my first PBEM game, too. My times would be:
3 PM-2 AM EST... which equals... 8 PM-7 AM GMT
Though, every other Fri&Sat my turn would probably be delayed (my girlfriend lives out of town, with no internet connection.) But, other than that, no problems.

I would say that if no one else on the team has a problem with us using this forum for our game, we should do it here. I mean, it is a team game, and this is our team forum...

After you agree on settings, would you like me to try setting the game up at Regent? I have recently learned about a rather laborious, but reportedly working trick how to get around the all-PBEM-games-at-Chieftan bug...

Yes, it is. Fortunately, I have got several computers here and Civ3+PtW 1.14f is installed on the main one only. I can do a fresh install on another one, keeping the 1.04f install there just for the sake of setting PBEM games up.

My e-mail is benNO@surveypointSPAM.com (remove NO and SPAM of course). My playing hours vary through the week with classes; evenings are good on SMWS, TTF I'm available in the afternoon and late evening. I'm in Central, so that's ~01-05 GMT S-M-W-S and ~19-23 and 03-05 GMT T-T-F. (If you can make sense of all those abbreviations at once, you get 5 points. )

Map settings look good. Regent is good, barb setting I dunno.

If I can get Egypt, civs should be picked. j/k Maybe we should all pick a few civs NOT to play, and determine things randomly from there (re-rolling the die, re-running the program or whatever if one of a player's undesired civs comes up).

I'm ready to play any civ in any condition. I fail equally at all levels and settings.

I would rather set the barbarians at normal level. I'm play one game that a player insisted on no barbarians/no good huts. That makes for a more boring early game. My warriors keep wandering around looking for huts that don't exist. Warriors are tough, but very slow on the mental side.

Kloreep, I'll put for you the 19 - 05 GMT playing hours, is that OK?

The only things remained then are:
- the email address of Sharpe
- how do we choose civs? How about Radek (when setting up the game) throwing them in a hat and choosing for each of us one? Like I said, the available civs would be those involved in this PtW demo game. Please tell it now if you don't like some of the settings/civs, whatever.

my email is sarnott(NOSPAM)@mountaincable.net

Remove the "(NOSPAM)".

As for choosing civs, I would initially suggest that we list our top 3 or 4 preferences - maybe we can narrow down the amount of picking out of a hat we might have to do that way.

At this point, I just want to get the game started. I agree it should be random, but it would be nice to be able to eliminate some civs from your chances...
