Holly sh*t, Beta, I almost fall off from my chair; and I thought that I was joking with some teenager
Excuse-moi, your Uglyness
So, back to topic, and that would ... me:
32 years old, male.
My user name is a roman one, I live in Romania, so you've guessed: I am hungarian.
My avatar is supposed to impress people and make them fear me, which obviously doesn't work
I'm an IT support engineer and this is probably why I feel better supporting Consuls, Presidents and Ministers and not being one. However, it should be about the time to advance in my career, don't you think ?
What else? Ah, civ: I'm a dedicated civ-like game player and builder since I know myself. I started with legos , continued with Civ1, Civ2 (the greatest years of my life; I was spending entire nights playing civ2 with my girlfriend and missing the classes next day ) , Transport Tycoon, Caesar, and all the other great civ, building or tycoon like games.
Unfortunately I don't have that much time nowadays and honestly I think that lately I spend more time on Poly the playing civ3. Since PtW came out I lost almost entirely my desire to play against the AI, and I'm playing only PBEM and respectively Demo games.
I must be among the oldest members of this site (even if not always a very active one) and I've seen many different people from all around the world coming and (sometimes) leaving, but I can tell you one thing:
It is a great community! (of course, we are CIV players!)

Wow, I'm quite the newbie compared to a lot of people here. I tinkered around with Civ2 some, and I've played same MOO2 and SMAC, but Civ3 is the first civ game I've really gotten involved in. I'm pretty horrible at it, too; though I'm glad to see I'm not the only Warlord player here. I could probably get better at it if I played SP much, but I seem to keep joining these "demogame" things...
I registered on Poly back in June (as you can see ) and joined the Civ3 SPDG later that month. I posted and attended some turnchats, but was completely inactive for a term or two after the summer ended and this "education" thing came back. After working some more Poly time in, I became active in the SPDG again and helped out on the Directory. Since then, I've become the Directory's manager, been a Regional Governor for a few terms now, and written some Newz Updates.
I don't know if I'll be that active in this game; while the SPDG is ending soon and my responsibilities there will drop sharply, I'm not all that good at the early game and want to sit back and watch the experts. And it's high time I contributed more to Legoland. But I do plan to be here and put in my vote, and who knows; I might be more active here than I think.
As for RL: I'm still 15, so I luckily don't have to worry about a major just yet. Good thing, as I have no idea what it would be. I do so some volunteer work at the local library, but no job yet.

Wow! Theseus this is a really good thread!
So many things to say, but I don't want to get so long a boring (and probably I will end doing it anyway), so I will do my best to compact the information.
I'm Oliver F.A. The F and the A come from my first and second surnames. I know the majority of you have only one surname but we in Spain like to have everything bigger and in more quantity, so we can compare ourselves to the others and say "mine is bigger!". That's the reason because I have twice as much surnames as the majority of you . Ah, and I'm 26 yo.
I really believe in that corporations adds that say "we make your life better". One example: You can discuss if the cell phone is or not a good thing, but the fact is that you can reach friends and family easier than before its invention, and that when your car gets broken you don't have to walk several kilometers to the next public phone anymore. That's the reason because my major is Computer Engineering, thought I did so many economic optative subjects that in my case it could be called Computer Engineering applied to economics I really would like to be responsible of one of those little gadgets that make everyone's life better and their creators wealthier
I haven't still graduated as a computer engineer, mainly because I've been working as one since several years ago. I started as an intern in a Help Desk (also known by the ungrateful users as Hell Desk) department of a Business School at Barcelona (IESE in case anyone knows the name) and got quickly promoted. After 2 years I became Help Desk Coordinator. The next step was to become IT Department director, but since the current director was only 32 yo and had no intention to go, and my job was taking too much time from my studies and delaying them to no end, I resigned and looked for another place which could serve my ambitions better. Then I joined Erasmus students program to travel around Europe and got a job at the Geneva University (Switzerland) in colaboration with several dozens european institutions (that's one of the reasons because I hate bureaucracy) that will serve as my Final Degree Project and be presented at the end of March. Now I know that public institutions are not for me and that I feel more comfortable at the private enterprise. During that time I've been able to travel around several countries in Europe using Geneva as headquarters. I like travelling a lot. I also was at the US East Coast when I was working at IESE, so my next destination when I can save some money is Japan!!! ^_^
As for Civ-like games, I started playing Avalon Hill's Civilization board game at my RP club when I was at secondary school. We used to do Civilization Marathons since 9:00 to 22:00. Maybe we were sick, but I don't regret that Then a member of the club got a pirate Civ 1 copy (Civ 1 wasn't published in Spain until several years later) horribly translated, but since we didn't know enough English that was better than nothing. I've lost the count of how many hours did I spent with my 386 playing that copy of Civ1. I've been playing TBS games since then, and particularly like "Heroes of Might & Magic" I, II, III and IV, which I see that no one has mentioned yet. By the way, just for the record, "Age of Wonders" is a mix between Civ3 and HOMM3. In my SP games I tend to have a big army. Despite that I rarely start wars, but I always finish them, like the historic Roman Empire used to do. Like Togas I rarely play the game in other level higher or lower than Regent, not because I can't win, but because I cannot stand the computer "cheating" me (or me cheating it). I've studied AI at the university and know that this is the only way to be challenging, but still don't like it. I prefer a well designed challenging scenario which gives lots of advantages to the computer than an "unfair" game in which the computer cheats. And talking about scenarios, I really miss a campaign mode in Civ since I really get involved with the stories that these games tend to develop in campaigns, which are about high values like honour, justice and also a lot of politics and maquiavelic ploting to conquer (or save) the world.
And here is where we find a connection with the DG games, because they act exactly as a "campaign" for Civ3. I was a casual lurker at the Apolyton forums and found about the SPDG, but unfortunately it was too late to join. Anyway I was observing for a lot of time, and when I saw the oportunity to participate at one of these games from the begining (like Dejon) quickly emailed a friend who is studyng at Canada and asked him to buy and send me a copy of PTW. Living at an expensive country with a government scolarship also gives me quite a lot free time and so this democracy game seemed a good idea to fill the time. RP was the logical option. Also like several other posters I passed from having very few posts to 500 in three months. I still get surprised and the depth than the game gets when played between all that people. The turn comes every 24, which seems a lot of time, but in fact it isn't, because lots of things happen in the "human" part of the game meanwhile. Micromanaging discussion, diplomacy, and of course some roleplaying! I feel very comfortable in the RP team and I'm begining to feel close to some of the members (as close as you can feel to someone through the Internet). I really think that Togas is doing a great job as the team leader and hope that the experience here at the ISDG team will be as great as it is being at RP.
As for the reasons that made me want to run the Intelligence Office of Apolyton, I always have the needing to know everything relevant about the situation and have as many pieces of the big picture as posible in order to take well informed decisions. I like to know almost every detail of what is going on. That's a bit different from planning and micromanaging, but it is also done with Excel Also I guess that I would like to work at an Intelligence Agency in RL, but since in Spain the Intelligence Agency is a joke this is a bit difficult.
Like Theseus I like to support acting leaders when I think they are doing well, but also like to be near the centers of power. So I guess that being an officer of the government but not the president is my way to go. But also as Theseus said this could change in the future.
Well this post is geting too long, so I will end here and let the next Apolytan speak.
