MY WORDS ARE BACKED WITH BIO-CHEMICAL WEAPONS

Great posts, folks! It's a good way to describe a country...
Ok, let me try:
Well, what I can say about Brazil...
We're religious and commercial, likely. LOTS of rainforests, bonus resources, flood plains, grasslands, rivers and more rivers, strategic resources, gold, luxuries, thousands of coastal tiles, mixed climate, mixed nationalities, girls in every shape, tone of skin... And we're in the Carnival right now ("We Love Everybody Day" in all cities). No clothes... You can say, Culture here is huge!
What's the problem, so?
Well, the Barbarians are rampaging (are you reading the news about us? )... The country is too big, and we have an endemic problem with corruption here (but the gold goes to Suiss ). We've made a "palace jump" already, no Forbidden Palace yet.... Oh, yes, a crappy military. No gold for troops, no techs to upgrade units... The luxury slider is down to zero, and the science slider goes in the same way. Almost all gold were going to corruption. We changed the Government just now, lets see if the corruption decreases...
Oh, well... With time, we can fix this, I hope. |
hi ,

Thank you Theseus This is a wonderful thing.
I am a 33 year old Mechanical Engineer from Oregon USA. My name is Glenn and...
For me it all started back in 1991 with a VAX/VMS game called "Empire". It used text graphics ("A" for my army "a" for "their": army) blacked out explorable maps, production centers, it was great. I spent years trying to find the game for my PC. All I could find was source code that wouldn't compile. Finaly, a friend turned me on to Civ 2 when it first came out. I was instantly addicted.
I lurked for here about three months after the release if Civ3, mostly scanning straegies, then had to register to take part in the C3DG. Currently I am overwhealmed with RL - House repairs, kids, parties, baby on the way, Phish, work... so demogame involvment is lurker at best, sorry GS
I typically play at Monarch. I can survive on Emperor though never really played much at that level. Monarch is fun and I take far too many risks to give the AI that much of an advantage.
I play a feisty builder style. Build Build Wack Build Wack Build Build, give or take a Wack or two
To me it is all about the Metagame.... drool drool. I love to create tension in my games by playing puppet master. l capture a capitol (with wonders) and give it to one of the enemies friends just to insure a future war between the two. Sometimes I reduce a nation to one city and build it back up to a world class power at the expense of another.
I am currently enjoying the "double your pleasure" mod. Wow what a game, so many additions, The rules are very different, plays a little like 2. So many new improvments (five flavors of forbidden palaces). If you want more historical acuracy, check it out. I was sure happy to see the uncluttered tech trees of a normal game.
Anyway I appreciate these demo games as a way to really work out strategies, connect (at some level) to people and learn from our collective knowledge.
Lets kick some butt

[Edit: Only had like five minutes for this. Besides, I never really say much, anyway. ]
I'm Vlad. I've been playing Civilization-series games since January 1998, with Civ II. I was involved with the SPDG and (briefly) the PTWDG, as well as the ACDG (for one term).
I typically play on Regent or a little below. I don't have a particular style, unless I roleplay a bit. The main reason I appear knowledgeable about strategy matters is because I read the Realms Beyond Civilization Epics reports (mainly Sirian's and Sulla's) and the AU threads. Much of what I know is stuff I've learned from reading their reports.
Currently, I'm a high school junior, on our school's track team. In addition to Civ, I also play Neverwinter Nights, Nethack, and Doom.

Just found out this thread today, so here's my bit:
My real name is Rodrigo Aguilera, 23 years old, I am from Mexico City but currently live in Puebla since I am studying college there. My major is Economics and after 5 long and hard years I finally finished classes and am only one step away from graduating (thesis).
I have been playing Civ since the good old days of Civ1, I probably started around 1993/4. I got Civ2 the moment in came out and consider it the best game ever made. Period. I was rather disappointed with Civ3 but when PTW I found it to be the game I always wanted.
I mostly hang out at the Spanish forum, it accounts for about half of my posts. Besides that I lurk in the Strategy forum (about 25% of my posts) and ocassionaly in the PTW and Civ3 General (the remaining 25%). Once or twice I take a look at the OTF...
As for my gaming style, those who have seen my posts will agree that I am a raging warmonger but I will happily turn into a builder once I conquer my continent. I usually enjoy playing competitive games (like progressive games) on Emperor/Deity, I have no problem with challanges although deep in my heart I prefer Monarch since I can build a more "realistic" empire on that difficulty level.
I have had rather nasty experiences with MP in PTW, friggin' bugs, hopefully the new 1.21 patch will solve these issues so I will be more active in PBEM games. I would very much enjoy sparring with the best of you, I'm sure there will be a lot to learn.
As for demo games, I am relatively new to Apolyton (jan 03) and I don't like to hop in when things have already started for a long time. Still, I hope a 2nd PTWDG will start later and I will gladly join one of the teams. Currently I am in the Spanish and the Red Front Demo games besides the ISDG.
Well, other interests include politics, military history, nightclubbing and soccer. I have pretty virulent and radical political views for anyone who hasn't noticed in other forums... but only because I LOOOVE arguing with anyone about anything (just ask panag). Nothing personal...
I am currently not into any other game besides Civ3 but enjoy flight sims, wargames, and simcity. Looking forward to RoN
Well, I guess that pretty much sums it up.

Not just another pretty face.

I'm Friedrich Psitalon, aka Jesse, and I teach English in a title-1 (poverty-stricken area) school in South Florida.
My Civ-style would be best classified as "Build and assassinate." I am the type to smile and coexist peacefully, and then strike out with shocking force in a particularly unexpected moment. I'm actually, IMO, a better builder than warmonger, but my last 4 months at the top of the Civ 3 ladder at www.myleague.com/civ3ptw has made me a pretty ferocious warmonger, and specialist in effective early wars. I'm not really a diplomat- I'm more of a ruthless analysis guy, with little regard to the other aspects of the situation. Hence my quote: "I am a sentient amoeba." As in, you can leave your lil' human qualms at the door, thanks.
(Must be psychological backwash from dealing with nothing but human feelings from 7th graders all day, go figure. All my sensitivity gets wrung out there.)
I've been playing since I was quite young- whopping 26 now. I can remember getting my first computer and ruthlessly crushing Ariel and Horus in Masters of Magic on the impossible setting, and wondering why that was all there was to it. (If MoM 2 ever comes out, you'll never hear from me again. ::drool:: ) I usually have a game of MoO2 going in the background on my secondary computer at all times - Impossible difficulty, of course - and spend a lot of time playing Civ3 ladder and grading papers.
I am a BIG fan of psychological warfare in any sort of MP games. I consider the mental impact of certain actions to be as useful - or more so- than the actual in-game impacts. Never forget that fatigue and anger, induced into your enemy, can be a powerful tool. That's where my nick comes from, too.
Friedrich sounds German, and in other games I've played, the crowd tends to be American. Since the American media has a habit of portraying the German as a cold, calculating, and heartless fellow, I play into that. "Psitalon" is a vague attempt at some sort of 'coded message,' for lack of a better word.
Psi meaning mind, talon meaning claw... literally, "Claw of the mind" or "Claw into the mind."
Think of me as that dark, terrible, evil thing you keep locked behind bars, snarling, gnashing its teeth, until you find need to release it upon your foes.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go teach the kiddies.

I know, I know, I'm a bit late for the party, but anyway...
I'm Alexandre, 32 years old, married (no kids! ) and, just like Aro, I live in Brazil (more specifically in Campo Grande, MS). Don't ask me about my avatar, I stole it from another site sometime ago...
I think I'm one of the vets around here. I used to post at the old alpha.owo forums (but I was more of a lurker there) and used to visit the Ultimate Civ2 site too. Apolyton was a natural consequence for me.
Played Civ2 for the first time at a friend's home, he said that I would like that game. Next day I bought me a copy of Civ2, guess he was right. Since then I played the original Civ1, SMAC ( ) and now Civ3+PTW. You can find me almost everywhere here on Poly, I like to post here and there whenever I find something interesting.
I have a degree in Philosophy and I'm working for the government as an intelligence official. (Don't worry, Aro, nothing to do with the old SNI! )
I did not play any demo games before (though I think that I tried to join the ACDG once), mostly due to RL time constraints, but now I have some free time and I intend to help Apolyton in this long and arduous way toward final victory...
