a poll on the varied Unit naming options... I think I caught each idea; hopefully I didn't leave out any.

1.) Name Units after forum members
2.) Name Units using 1,2,3,4,etc.
3.) Name Units using random numbers
4.) Name Units using random names
5.) Name Units after they accomplish something
6.) Name Units after the city they were produced in

I'll do that in some MP games; the laugh I get is so enjoyable.

Some of the other players really get ticked and start talking about people's mama's and such; that's when I know that I really got 'em going!

We (people who have Civ 3) often refer to 'captured' workers as slaves; they work at only half the pace as non-captured workers. Hence the term slave can be attributed to that they are not a part of our Civ (we pay no upkeep for them) and they work very slowly.

but when we get huge ammounts of forces, i prefer the "name units after cities" option.

ala American Regiments in the Civil war.

I think it'd be cool when Trip sends us off to battle...we'd have the same anxiety as real soldiers when they get the order to march.

ThePlagueSquad sounds dangerous enough to scare away fiends. So option 1 is ok, but would make a lot of silly unit-names. Such as the Ratsquad.


Please don't make citynames this way. Remember the silly citynames from the SPDG ?

Not true Zargon. In the SPDG the lone Knight unit is almost univerisily considered mine. And I am begging to go to war all the time (OK, only when Japan is stupid enough to land a spear on our mainland).

Badly impressed by the mess resulting from the naming of cities in the demogame, and anticipating the difficulty to make an order of battle with 187 units with funny names, I would just add to the default designation the turn the units were created (just to have an idea of the survival rate )

What can be a better honour than having the unit named after you do the highest sacrifice posible and offer their live in the battlefield for the glory of Apolyton?

And I want the first spy to be named after me. What do you say? That there is no spy unit in Civ3? Oh well, don't care...
