If several past US presidents and other high-level people like diplomats think this is wrong, then rather than say they are traitors - maybe they have a point?

Unfortunately, it has become rather "American" lately to brand those who disagree with you as traitors rather than actually think about things. A what poll?

He believed he was serving the people of America (I don't like to talk about 'nations', nations don't believe things or want things) by sending them the message that he disagreed with their rulers enough to end his career.

If you want to find Moral Decay look at all the flag-waving zombies so glad that once again the USA is getting ready to slaughter thousands in the name of democracy and Good. Or the people talking about how liberties need to be 'sacrificed' to 'preserve' (entomb?) them. Moral Decay is when people believe that war is the time to 'have faith' and 'support' the rulers....when of course it's the time to be most on guard against the constant onslaught on liberty. Or the sychophantic praise and lionizing of soldiers, who, while many of them are facing the risk of death, are going to be fighting a war where their superiority over the enemy is so total and utter that it looks more like boasting. Or the moral decay in diplomatic circles, of how the USA has gone from a popular perception of brash big brother to something more threatening, more incomphrensible, to outsiders.

Neither Hitler nor Mussolini nor Franco ever had majority support. That Nazis had a maximum 44% in the last free election, Mussolini was appointed, and Franco led a military revolt against the elected government.

che: I never said the ycame to power democratically (Hitler partially), yet he definitely had a majority behind him and he was at least close of having it in Austria already at the time of the Anschluß. Later during his reign, he definitely had (yes, because of the propaganda, but still...)

What a great letter. Some friends and I had a symposium on the war last November and we all agreed that no matter what your political persuasion, this war is a fool's errand; no better example of hubris could be found.

I don't think this war debate is about right versus left, it should be about prudence versus insanity.

Here in 'Poly, there are no laws per se. Just a bunch of principle mods may or may not follow, depending on their moods. The mods are kind of judge dredds, a tad more predictable though.
Their role is to let an acceptable order exist on the forum (according to the guidelines), not to exert justice.

In short : don't piss the mods.
