EA2004 is EA2003 with a new roster, just like every EA game. Oh, they add a move every now and then which does nothing useful...

If you want a real hockey game, you'd play NHL 2K3.

EA's NHL series is like an arcade game. That's fine if you go into it expecting an arcade game, but it's certainly not on the level of EA's Madden games or virtually any of Sega's sports games.

This sounds like the EA FIFA Soccer .vs. Pro Evolution Soccer debate that people sometimes have. Of course, anyone who says that the EA game is better than Konami's needs their head examined.

The only reason Sava doesn't know any better is NHL 2K3 is console only, he doesn't know what he's missing.

What kind of person plays hockey games on the PC anyway.

The last Hockey game I bought was EA NHL 2001. It was soooooo easy. I was winning games like 20-4 on the hardest level, almost every time.

The last Pools of Radiance game (which came out about a year or two back) was bug ridden and simply a mess.

And consoles and PCs are for different things. When someone can show me a console with non-linear RPGs, then I'll gladly get one. For now though, the PC is the only place for them.

Those were good games for their times. Yeah and wizardry and ultima, all great RPGs. I suppose that's why it saddens me that games like Diablo are becoming popular, simple point and click fests. When a game like Fallout or Arcanum comes out they are one of the few I will buy right away. A game with a good storyline, multiple choices and combat that isn't about how fast you can click your mouse.

I can't understand the popularity of multi-player RPG's: the exploits, the cheats, the endless who can make the best player and get the most stuff power gamers. Besides when I play a RPG I'm trying to get away from this world not go into another one that is even worse because half the population is l33t kewl 12 year olds.

Ummmmm, a lot of games are on both Pc and console so it's pretty equal there. For the other games no one can tell me if it sucks or not, if it has depth or no fun or whatever. My taste, my opinion.
SO, IMO pc games are better but you know.......I wont be IMPOSING it on you.

I think the lack of story is what is turning me off of a lot of TBS games. Civ3 lacked any sense of momentum or flow from the beginning of the game to the end. There aren't any cut scenes, events, or anything other than just plodding along the course. One of the things I like most about studying history is that there is indeed a real story to man, and one can get a sense of a general flow of history, a movement towards...well, something. Alpha Centauri is the last TBS I played that really accomplished this, and I was sad Civ3 didn't take its lesson from it. You'd think it would be easier with Civ, since so much of the story is already known instead of made up!

EU and HoI incorporated events that gave more direction to games, but I think that overall the games themselves are weak and not very entertaining. Historical accuracy at the expense of fun doesn't do much for me. If a game has countless stretches of nothing happening, that's a problem.

This is why I have high hopes for Galactic Civilizations. I want a TBS game that incorporates a storyline but is flexible in letting the player choose the course of the game. I also want to get a feeling for building an epic empire. I liked Imperium Galactica II for this reason, although it had a lot of flaws that diminished its impact (like the totally unrewarding finale).

If only I were a programmer/game designer and could create my perfect TBS game. *sigh*

I feel that PC games developers often release half-finished products, safe in the knowledge that the 'modding community' will do the work for free. This is damaging for PC games as a whole, in my opinion.

Adventure games? Like what?

Most of them haven't held much excitement for me. Their lack of replay value makes them a rather poor investment, IMO. Who wants a game that after you've played it once, it holds nothing new for you?

Full PM-box? Change here!

Boris: The Longest Journey was a good game, with a GREAT story (a sequal is coming out soon). Syberia was supposed to be good this year, but I haven't played it yet.

I agree with your assesment of the adventure genre, but if they are $20, then its more feasible.

Asher: nyuk nyuk! We'll compare relationship lengths (and anything else...).

Imran: I can buy a great novel for $6-10. I can go see a great story at the movies for $10. I can buy a great story on DVD for $12-15. Anything over that for a "great story," even if it's a PC game, is too much, IMO. I'd rather just rent!

Yeah, I have finally seen the light as far as sports games go. I bought my first non-madden football game, NFK2k3. I'll probably buy the new sega baseball game, and maybe pick up NHL2k3 (more likely will wait until next year), and in the meantime, get NBA2k3.

Suffering from ads?

Do you remmember Morrowind? Graphicaly so so, but not too good as RPG. Yes I run Morrowind on 450 MHz with RIVA tnt2, but I think even ADOM could do it better.
BTW Adom is in 1.1.1 version... continual development with same people. This is what Bethesda missed. Yea and becouse they ignored my warning, Morrowind WAS ugly result.

Game development is an art, and if you'd forgot this you are nailed. You could get good marketing, lots of money, but without well thought and good design you are nearly nothing.

Civ 3 and MOO wasn't reworked and there was lots of ugly things that didn't worked well together. It remminds me of post war Japan. Hey boys we will force you in US type democracy and you would gain lots of nice features for you regime. Yes and lots of UGLY features too, if they want or not.

How about games that come not only full of bugs and in need of modding and constant patching but games that come with obvious little corners having been cut. Like having the manual on the disc in Adobe for you to print out yourself, manuals full of spelling errors and game information errors, CD's without a jewel case, games full of spelling errors. Things such as the above to me are like a slap in the face. It's like saying we don't care about you or the quality of our game enough to print out a manual, correct the spelling, make the manual accurate, ect... Nothing pisses me off more.
