Contact will be possible NEXT TURN, at which point we can make offers. Negotiations with their team should start immediately, however as the rule is no actual contact prior to contact we'd better abide by it. So let's begin to prepare our emails and make our decisions.
Assignments: I now assign BigFree1 to serve as our ambassador to Elucidia, and I appoint Hot_Enamel to serve as Deputy Ambassador to advise and assist as possible.
Gentlemen, upon contact we will be able to see what technology CDG does not have. If they do not have Pottery (value 2) we should offer it for Bronze Working (value 3) and explain to them that we are more than 1/2 way done with it, but wouldn't mind getting it a "few turns early" and we'd be willing to give them Pottery for their trouble.
If they have Pottery, inquire as to how much it would cost us to "boost" our BW production by buying it from them right now? If they ask us for a #, open with 10g, max bid is 25g, but negotiate of course.
Other things to begin discussing:
Have they met anyone else?
What is their world like?
Do they want to agree to a research pact?
Do they have any other tech to trade us? (goodie hut booty) If so, we should discuss, maybe get Alphabet involved.
Do they want to sign a peace accord with us?
How has the game been?
Who's in charge over there?
How involved is Ghengis? Will he be an ambassador to us?
... and pretty much whatever other questions you think might be helpful. Important thing is to establish early a "chatty" and friendly nature. Let them feel that we are very happy to have met THEM, especially since they have GF and he's a "good friend" of ours, etc.
Post questions if you got 'em. Post discussion, etc.
I will soon post a Correspondence Thread in which you will post a copy of all PMs sent out and a copy of all PMs received.

I accept this position with great honor.
I will make every effort to gather information about their circumstances as is possible, while instituting a favorable relationship.
Upon in-game contact I will send a message to Kentonio requesting that he provide me contact information (their Apolyton Ambassador).

They may have gotten either Ceremonial Burial or Warrior Code form a hut. We have been unlucky with the huts but they may have had it better.
What would you think of a trade that gave them Alphabet and Pottery for BW and either CB or WC (or both CB and WC)
BW's value is 3
Alpha's value is 5
Pottery's value is 2
CB's value is 2
WC's value is 3
That would be a 7(ours) trading for a 5 or 6 (or 8)
The 5 is for BW and CB
The 6 is for BW and WC
The 8 is for BW and CB and WC
We might pull of the one for 8 if we convince them that we a pretty well into researching BW ourselves; we'd have to tell them that we got Pottery from a hut to make them believe we have invested in BW pretty heavily. (this means we have to lie )
How much gold should we ask for if they want (and only offer) the 7-5 deal?
How much for the 7-6 deal?
If we can't convince them that we spent heavily on BW research ourselves; how much gold do we offer to throw in on top of the deal, if they don't want to take it as is?
Also, what is going to be our position on trade clauses?
Are we going to support 'No Trade' clauses attached to certain tech's we trade for? Are we going to ask for such a clause on our tech's we trade to them?

Let's not. Let's save Alphabet and at least attempt to get a 2 for 1 deal for it later as we may end up researching Writing next (I hope not), and if we do and we give away all of our techs right now, we won't have anything to trade with until we get Writing some 30-odd turns from now.
If they have additional techs, get a price from them and get back to us, and the team can discuss.
Be open to future trade deals. If we do throw in Alphabet now (be resistant to do so at first), and they throw in CB or WC or Wheel or whatever, if we can't get something that is equal in value to Alphabet, get them to agree to trade us something else to balance off the trade in the future ... or agree that our next trade will be a valuable tech for a not-so-valuable tech from us ... perhaps IW for Wheel or the like. We want to keep options open and start creating ties for future deals.
Anyhow, we'll be able to make a better decision once we know what they have.

This is a lie they would never be able to catch us in, and one that I'm prepared to make SO LONG AS we would not have already researched BW by now ... can one of the beaker counters determine where we would be RIGHT NOW if we were always researching BW? Let's use that figure and say, "welll ... we're about to get BW in a couple turns, but if you guys want a couple gold, I guess we could get it now and start researching something else." Then talk about what each of our teams should research NEXT so that we can trade it when we get it.

How much for the 7-6 deal?

If we have to get an uneven trade from them, ask them for future tech acommodations. 10-20 gold really doesn't do much for us and no nation has enough money to really make up the difference. Our best bet is to negotiate a good trade for our NEXT exchange if we have to take a hit on this one.
Another option to discuss: We give them a sweet deal if they agree not to travel north the jungle. (however, even mentioning this could hurt us as it would make them more curious, and could spark them to put the same sort of conditions on us)

Start with 10g. Go up to 25g.

Only if we get some benefit that is worth the cost. On this trade, I see little benefit to a No-Trade for Pottery, and asking for a No-Trade would usually result in a No-Trade for BW. Let's not ask for it at this time.
If they ask for it, say that we'll accept if they throw in or lower their price by 10g.

I think the most likely reason is that they have a bonus food tile or two to work with. We are going to grow to 3 on this turn aren't we? So there's not a huge discrepancy between the growth of our two cities.
Also, I think that the granery wouldn't have been completed in time for any food stores to be carried over when they went from size 1 to 2. The only time the granary would help their growth and show it self to us is when they grow fro 3 to 4. If they had a granary and then grew from 2 to 3 they would have a half full food bin now which didn't help them in getting to their current size of 3.

Thanks for the direction Togas.
Though I'm a little leary in doing 'future' trades, I will do so since you are in favor of them.
Should I attach any threats, veiled or not, to the future trade scenario should they not provide compensation in the future as is negotiated. Should we tell them that there will be a price to pay (blood or money)?
So I also take it that we are not worried about letting them know we are currently researching BW?
If not, I will attempt to negotiate, first, a trade of what we are currently researching so that we can find out what they are researching. This doesn't cost us anything since we are already willing to let them know we'd be willing to trade something for BW and that we have put effort into as such.
