The Repubicrats are America's big fat majority party, usually getting about 90-100 % of the vote.

Do I really have to explain the origin of the term?

And I'm again amused at how you read what I write.

Don't know. Why don't you google the word + "area 51" ? Seems "Republicrats" is more popular, try that one.

Hoo boooy.

So, how bout you explain the term, rather than leave it at the nebulous 'all American elections are fixed'.

OTOH, nevermind. I just figured it out.

Yeah. I guess they have a very poor tradition of democracy down there. Must be worse than the one they imposed on you folks, right?

Is that why you're bitter? I mean. It must have been nice with that empire of slavs and balts and what-not. I mean, before you had democracy imposed on you.

Got spare money?

Ok, NYE, from the start:

Republicrats - Republicans and Democrats seen as one party due to the lack of distinction between the two. Similar concept: SPÖVP, blending the austrian conservatives (ÖVP) and social democrats (SPÖ) into one party.

"Yeah. I guess they have a very poor tradition of democracy down there."

Hey, they say they're a Republic. Didn't you read that?

"I mean. It must have been nice with that empire of slavs and balts and what-not. I mean, before you had democracy imposed on you."

Balts? I'm not swedish.

Now, I guess I have to educate you on the role the slavic representatives played in the Austrian Reichstag from 1867-1918, especially the Polish vote from Galicia...

I think they consider themselves a democratic republic. I think it means they gather once every four years or so to elect representatives. Actually, I think it is more often, because they have some kind of screwy alternating system, but maybe that's just me.

In the mean time, those representatives govern. Representatives, not polls.

Hmmm. Austrian Reichstag. Did the emporer ask its permission to go to war with Serbia in '14? Would it have mattered?

Every two years at the federal level.

As for the Reichstag, I'm not sure about the technical details. The Reichstag could have stopped the war by denying its funding and sacking the government, but there was a broad majority in favour.

I thought that both Robin Cook's resignation speech and Tony Blair's appeal to Parliament were masterful - they both came across as decent, honest people who passionately believed what they were doing is right.

I don't entirely agree with either one of them, but I have to admire their eloquence (or the eloquence of their speech-writers).

The parliamentary system forces Brit politicians, PM's in particular, to be much better speakers than their US counterparts.

CLINTON???

I know lots of people think so, but the man's voice turned my stomach. I just couldn't listen to him. Everything about the way he spoke screamed "this is all bullshit. I'm just saying what I'm supposed to say, like the poll data tells me." I'm not saying he's any worse than any other politician, but for some reason, his voice and manner of speaking really irritated me.

Tremendous:

"And now the world has to learn the lesson all over again that weakness in the face of a threat from a tyrant, is the surest way not to peace but to war.

Looking back over 12 years, we have been victims of our own desire to placate the implacable, to persuade towards reason the utterly unreasonable, to hope that there was some genuine intent to do good in a regime whose mind is in fact evil. Now the very length of time counts against us. You've waited 12 years. Why not wait a little longer?

...

What would any tyrannical regime possessing WMD think viewing the history of the world's diplomatic dance with Saddam? That our capacity to pass firm resolutions is only matched by our feebleness in implementing them.

That is why this indulgence has to stop. Because it is dangerous. It is dangerous if such regimes disbelieve us.

Dangerous if they think they can use our weakness, our hesitation, even the natural urges of our democracy towards peace, against us.

Dangerous because one day they will mistake our innate revulsion against war for permanent incapacity; when in fact, pushed to the limit, we will act. But then when we act, after years of pretence, the action will have to be harder, bigger, more total in its impact. Iraq is not the only regime with WMD. But back away now from this confrontation and future conflicts will be infinitely worse and more devastating. "

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

It's not the delivery I care so much. Bush could have read this directly off a sheet of paper and I would have prefered it to last weeks press conference or even Monday's speech. (indeed, I did not see Blair give thespeech, I only read it)

Arrian, I can't say I disagree with you, although I quit liked Clinton and certainly prefer him over Bush.

However, I saw a couple of speeches made by Clinton after his polital career and they were more then great.

The one thing he does very well IMHO is reading it like he knows the text by hart or is improvising it.
He sort of makes you forget, he is using an autocue.

Gosh, I just compared Bush with Ghandi
