	What is Germany's hidden agenda? Got spare money?

Iraq is greatly in debt to Russia from past arms sales. Russia fears a regime change will wipe away debt.

But why is Germany opposed to war. I have heard of oil deals but nothing past that.

Not quite, but one of the reasons for his strict "no" is certainly his strict "no" during the last election campaign. In the last months Schröder was accused of breaking the promises he made during that campaign in summer 2002 (mainly about economically issues), so he needed at least one point where he could show the public that he keeps a promise - that about Iraq.

It is not the only reason, of course public (anti-war) opinion plays a role, also the fact that a part of the current coalition in Germany (the Greens) has roots in classical pacifism

German's still have a stygma when it comes to war; a relic leftover from the World Wars. So its hard to blame them for being anti-war.

In truth, Berlin wants to finally build the Berlin-Baghdad railroad, but that won't happen with the US in control of Iraq, since we know how hostile the US is towards Railroads.

I noticed on a news story about the Turks threatening to move into northern Iraq that Germany is threatening to pull its AWACS crews out of Turkey if the Turks do mount an incursion. Schroeder seems to be very determined not to have German military near any shooting.
