Russia has no interest in presenting biased news.

Russian military hardware is getting hosed in large quantities. Beyond pride, the relative power of Russia is going to be judged in part by how their hardware performed in the field. Also, how are you going to sell your old military junk to your typical 3rd world country when the equipment is proving to be a deathtrap more than anything else?

which constitute by themselves a reason for that war too. marketing in the field.

how many american helicopters went down, missiles went astray, friendly kills etc etc?

I'd say for a 3rd world country equiped with outdated weapons the Iraqis have certaintly made the american military technology seem far from trustworthy...


and again, calculating objectivity by level of involvment in iraq, really burns the US and the UK....

There are plenty of reasons why Russia would like to portray Coalition actions in Iraq in a negative light.

One, Russia is firmly against the war.
Two, as Dan pointed out, it's (old) Russian equipment that's being used by the losing side.
Three, the US media has been critical of Chechnya.
Four, Russia was the US's main rival for a very long time (1945-1991), and also has been none too pleased by NATO's eastward expansion.

Sticking to the point, there is clearly an overblown estimate of US military "power", which is of course, undisputed but not all that is cracked up to be.

Iraqis are "feared warriors" you say and it is true but what is also making it 10 times harder for the US is its own much more limited than what it was cracked up to be military machine.

Russia and the US both sell a ton of weapons. Most third world countries use Russian stuff because it is less expensive.

Russian weapons are pretty ubiquitous, Sava, and you know it. More so, even, then US weapons, I think. We may sell more in $$ terms, but my guess is there is more Russian equipment out there. But I admit that's a guess.

Anyway, I doubt any nation would much enjoy seeing its equipment get wasted in a war (even if it's outdated stuff, manned by poorly trained soldiers with little to no Command & Control ability).
