After some problems, I am attaching four zip files in this thread for new unit sprites.
They would have been available a lot earlier except I and others discovered the the makespr utility is not 100% reliable. I found a frame with a problem could;
1) stop makespr in its tracks,
2) crash makespr, and
3) worst of all, complete makespr then crash the game whenever the unit moved or attacked.
The last one, rare but very frustrating and difficult to find. I now have a template folder of working frames and shadow files. I add 1 new animation sequence at a time, then test the sprite in the game to make absolutely sure, this way I can narrow down a number 3) error to within 10 frames.
The first sprite is the Heavy Spearman, based on the Civ 3 unit, designed to be the next development of the original spearman, this one having body armour. I learnt a lot in making this sprite, including sharpening the image as civ3 units are a little dull when blown up to CTP2 size.

Sorry SMIFFGIG,
Can U be more specific, ie, screenshots of the units in action or of the problem Big Mac referred to?
BTW, what does SMIFFGIG stand for?
Will be posting Heavy Cavalry soon.

stankarp, i don't think it's your files inparticular - i've tried a number of other files for the mods for ctp2 etc and i get the same thing each time.Looks like an Apolyton glitch.

Thanks for the feedback.
I want to make a special thanks to Immortal Wombat for his patient help
The Heavy Spearman was my first attempt and I learnt a lot from that, especially about sharpening each frame as the Civ 3 figures are actually quiet dull when enlarged for CTP2, and also in using the colour change tool tolerance to eliminate that slight dark edge I got on the spearman.
I had trouble with larger units such as the chariot archer because foot units are already a little big, I will try to have slightly larger frames for somethings like catapults and naval units.
Next project is a decent Roman Legionary and a catapult with a crew
Thanks for the feedback. I like seeing a line of phalanx in the front centre with heavy cavalry on the flanks and archers and chariot archers behind.
My cradle mod which I hope will be ready in 4-6 weeks includes , apart from the new sprites, for the early period, javelineers, advanced warriors, heavy swordsman, scouts, ballista, supply train, seige train, consript swordsman and conscript legionary and hun raider.

Whats the address for civfanatics? I would certainly like a better legion and given it takes about 12-15 hours to make a sprite, I could spend the time playtesting and working on my mod.
I have been converting using animation shop to access the FLIC frames then panit shop pro to do the alterations. I have a template folder set up with a text file that works and animation and shadow frames that I know work in a sprite. I then do 1 animation sequence at a time, eg say movement 1 of 10 frames, make the sprite and check it in a game for reasons outlined above and previous forums. I used IW's procedure but changed a couple of things to make it easier.
If you have an easier way to make a sprite, post the details but be specific as I am not a computer genius.
