Okay. Here is a scenario. I have several loan officers working for me. They are paid a nice base salary, but the majority of their income comes from commission. My campany has classified them as non-exempt (elgible for overtime). The company has also set a no overtime policy. How do I explain to my loan officers that they cannot stay late and sell more (which would give them greater commissions)??

Some things do need to be tweeked.

Many many years ago when I was managing an auto restoration shop, we had two body men that were hourly. After hours they wanted to hang around and do special projects, (like rebuiding rusted out old classics) It was afterhours so they drank a few beers and really took their time. They didn't feel that they should get time and a half for putzing around. So we made them "quasi managers" and paid their extra time as a bonus calculated on a % of what those special projects for eventually sold for. The Illinois Dept of Labor came in and said that we couldn't do it, since these guys weren't really managers. SO we stopped that practice. Which made us stop the special project thing and both guys lost out on a lot of money. THe department watched us like hawks after that to make sure we didn't bend the rules. (like giving them access to the shop for free after hours to work on their own personal projects )
All it did was hurt people. They didn't want that type of protection.

So while I may dissagree with some of the things being proposed (once it's verified of course ) There are a few changes that could be beneficial to the blue collar worker.

Sure, why not? As to employing kids, that sounds like a parenting problem, not a government problem, and certainly not my problem.

As to lower wages, people should get paid what they are worth in terms of labor. What they are worth is simply what the corporation is willing to pay them and what they will accept. There's no coercion.
