Hi all,

First, here's the key to the map above:
1. Light blue letters are cities we've already founded or sites that we will found cities on very shortly.
2. Light blue numbers are the my suggestions for sites we should claim after that, with number indicating priority.
3. Red dots are CDG cities.
4. Purpose dots are my gueses of where CDG will place their next cities in that general area.
5. Ugly green line (no, it's not a huge serpent sent from the Gods!) is path I suggest we cut through the Jungle, starting from the top right.
6. Free-standing green dots are other Jungle tiles we need to prioritize in our Jungle-clearing efforts.
On to the comments:
a. I'm not sure if Ironville (or is it Irontown?) was originally placed where I've indicated here, but I think this is the best spot for it. There is no need to connect up our Iron too soon, and we get a chance to squeeze in another (coastal) city to the NE.
b. City2 is meant as a temporary city, and aids in getting fresh water up to the Plains around Horsetown. City 4 will be the permanent city in that location. Depending on how the border treaty with CDG ends up, City4 may have to be put off indefinitely. If we're allowed access to that tile and we feel we can defend it (i.e. things cool down with CDG), I suggest we settler City4 before City2.
c. As I mentioned, the green swatch is how we should prioritize out Jungle-clearing. It a direct path from city to city, and each cleared tile is accessible by more than one city. Getting the Workers around the River will be a pain, though.
d. Here are my suggestions for Worker actions in the near-future:
-"Worker4" Road the Hill SE of current location
-"panag" finishes the two Grasslands NE of current location
-"Monkee" chops remaining Forest (next to Bananatopia)
-"Dan" Mine the Hills close to Apolyton and Incensity
-Any future Worker proceeds straight to Jungle (along path)
e. My guesses for the next CDG sites are just guesses, but they make sense given the lay of the land and the Road network they're setting up. I think the Roads they've built on the Hills outside of their capitol are meant to be defensive in nature. They may be worried that we're going to rush them!
That's all for now, hopes this makes sense and please discuss!

Could someone let me know if there's a particular reason why my attached image is not being displayed? Thanks.
Edit: Never mind...

Do you think that's better than what I've proposed above? If so, why?

We can clear the jungle towards city 2 (only 1 tile needs to be cleared) to start with.

I was hoping to clear many tiles around Bananatopia, for it to take full advantage of its Granary.

I think connecting that Iron =is= a priority for us. |
Why? Now we're expecting CDG to attack GCA. Do you suggest we build Swordsmen from scratch?

We'll never get to do that unless we go to war with CDG. Settling that far away is less of a question about city placement as it is about foreign affairs.

The problem is, it's not far for CDG either; if we restrict them to 5 cities, you'll bet they'll think we're the enemy.

hi ,
well who knows we might build a palace in the hood in the future , .....
jungle holds coal and what lays beneat it , .....
it has not stopped us before from building in the jungle
corruption , nah , dont worry they are going to be worth it every single penny
avoid war , well ' peace true power ' if we want to avoid war we have to start to look at our own self determination and presservation , we dont have to look at them , its " us " that count's , our nation and whats best for us , ...... they dont give a ratsa.. about us neither btw
have a nice day or night

sorry, just couldn't imagine you talking like that...
Coal is so far off that either we or CDG won't by around by then, and you can quote me on that.
If you want corrupt jungle cities we still have the eastern peninsula |
hi ,
héy , come-on , take a look , it aint that far away , ..... they can expand in the other direction , those border cities would be great lines of defense , .... and the sooner we start with them the better
soon we shall be able to build an extra palace , we just put that nearby , we should start about correct ( in the middle ) placement allready
have a nice day
oh yeah , we need roads up there to MZ , for driveby's

City 2 is meant as a temporary city. It would offer another (much-needed) production site, which will offer us at the very least a Worker every 10 turns. It would be disbanded later on when workable tiles are in short supply. A very nice side-effect is that another Jungle tile would be cleared "for free", speeding up the process of getting fresh water to Horsetown. It is very important that Horsetown gets to use irrigated Plains tiles, as without them it will never grow beyond size 3 (even then, it would be denying tiles from Mingapuloco and Incensity).

We should. But I think we could use a road towards CDG now.

Why? As far as I can tell, we have no plan to attack CDG. I guess matters such as these point out the need for a general plan.
[QUUOTE]
Building roads is better on grassland than in the jungle.
[/QUOTE]
Right. Our disagreement is not about this, but rather which Jungle tiles to clear first, and in what order. The "green path" I put on the screenshot above is (I think) a good way of doing this.
quote:
I'm not too convinced that CDG is targeting GCA. If they are not, and instead are coming northwards, we absolutely need the iron. If they are going south, we'd have a good opportunity to stab their backs and then, a few swordsmen wouldn't hurt. |
Again, we need a general policy before making any economic decisions. If peace lasts for another 30+ turns with CDG, we will not want to connect our Iron (since we would not be able to build Warriors anymore). In any case, it only takes 4 turns to hook up the Iron, so all we need to do is plan ahead, instead of hooking it up as a knee-jerk reaction.
Glad to have you in on the discussion, by the way.

OK, I had not thought of that in that way. If it's temporary, it's OK.
If it's abandoned, will the underlying jungle not come back?

But we need troops to be able to defend the front cities. For that, a road would be nice.

That's a good point. We do need to look out for Morris' friends, who can deny us the iron if they're quick enough.
Maybe we can avoid building a road into Horsetown? Then that city could do nothing but pump out warriors. It'll not grow very quickly in the beginning, anyway, due to the lack of water.
Glad to see you're still discussing..!

Nope. Founding a city clears Forest and Jungle permanently.

We should have Roads connecting every city, even the front-line ones. Are you suggesting we have Roads that extend beyond that, for the purposes of defense?

I was thinking of that too, but I think it would be best to leave every city the option of building Warriors for now. Anything that does not require pop (i.e. not Settlers and Workers) either costs 10 Shields (Warrior) or 30 Shields (Merc.). So it's convenient to have Warriors available as "filler". Of course, I'm assuming that we're not going to be building any Archers.

This temporary city idea - is it worth the inconvenience of having it build a settler or worker and relocating just for a tile being cleared and transporting the irrigation?
|
MrWhereItsAt, the temporary City2 would not only be used to clear the Jungle tile there. It could also be used as another mini Worker-pump (actually, that's the only use that makes sense that I can think of). It would also facilitate the transport of fresh water from the River up to the Plains near Horsetown, since there would be no need to: 1) clear that Junge tile (12 Worker-turns), 2) Irrigate and Road the tile (4 Worker-turns), 3) Mine over the Irrigation, since irrigation on a Grassland does nothing before The Repulic or Monarchy (3 Worker-turns).
The only problem that I can see is if this extra city puts us into another Corruption bracket, where we'll lose more to Waste due to number of cities. I'll check that out shortly.

No - I meant the roads towards the front cities.
edit: What I'm really trying to say is: we need a road from Mingapulco to City #2.
