We handed Indochina back to the French because we felt that France needed to retain their empire in order to better resist communism. Britain didn't decolonize because it wanted to do so. In Palestine, in India, in Africa, in Malaysia, Britain was faced with anti-colonial struggles. Half of Britain's overseas troops were in Palestine. Israel was Britain's "Vietnam" and there was simply no way they could hold on to India if they decided to stop listening to Ghandi, so they just cut the best deal they could get. Some fights Britain won, some they lost, but they didn't just decolonize because of the US.

Not at all. All cultures evolve towards a more libertarian position. Im saying that they shuold not be pushed. They want liberty (i assume), but they want it their way, an Arab, Muslim way, not a Western judeo-christian way.
