Face facts, Tass. Service life has a lot of benefits, aside from the obvious drawback that you get shot at sometimes (vary rarely if you think about it).
I can understand you being upset, but what if he said he wanted to be a porn star? Or a high steel worker? Or any other dangerous job?
Would those other jobs give the same benefits? Probably not.
I would point out to him that, no matter if officer or enlisted, he's going to have to get used to people ordering him about.
And then give him a taste of what that entails.
If he obeying orders, well, maybe he's just cut out for it? (I SERIOUSLY doubt that this, but I try not to stereotype people).

Yes, something is definitely off when it comes to Tassadar. For him to have a 15 year old son, he'd have to be a reasonably middle aged man. But knowing Tassadar does not seem to be like that all. First off, he is named after a character from Starcraft. Starcraft is a game usually played by a much younger audience then Tassadar would be to have a 15 year old son. None of the other older posters have character from RTS games as their screen names. His "Long Live the Soviet Union" type political posts seem much more typical of poly's usual high school age crowd. His "Americans are stupid" typic rhetoric is also something that seems to be more in line with a teenage poster as well. Heck, the whole of his postings, the way he acts seems more in line with a teenage poster then a father of a 15 year old son. I may be mistaken, but I think he has been involved with Nation States and the like, a type of game which is usually more popular with younger audiences, and his posts asking for unmarked maps seem a little suspicious as well, as does his silly MS paint politcal drawings. And while not impossible, it does not seem likely someone with as strong anti-american feelings as Tassadar, who was persumably born in Russia in the like, would voluntarily move to Utah, part of the conservative heartland of America. Such "Americans are dumb" type posts would however be logically consistent as part of backlash against his community were he a teenager being picked on in school.
Something just seems off about Tassadar. Could we be dealing with aNet Rat ?
