	New Members Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

This topic seems to create a lot of conversation, and I find myself in the uncomfortable position of trying to balance the team's clearly stated desire for 'security' and 'confidentiality' versus the desire of new folks to join.

And by new - I mean those with low post counts or names that I do not readily recognize. Having just joined Apolyton in November, I can appreciate that 'newness' can have many aspects.

Also - with myself being new, and my activities restricted to the two demo games and some pbem, there are a lot of names I am unfamiliar with.

Mark has suggested I consult with the team on new members. And that is the purpose of this thread.

There are four names I would like to discuss - two are already authorized for this forum but that I would like the team to OK. To these two, and to everyone who I ask about, please do not get defensive about this process. It is more of a reflection on my lack of familiarity with you than anything else.

And yes - I full acknowledge that it is possible that someone with a more familiar name and high post count may have nefarious intent, but, the odds are less, and we are all aware of the goal to play fair.

So here are the names. Please feel free to wade into the discussion, and vouch for someone, or question them. In the first two cases, you are already authorized for this forum, so please add your comments.

The first two have already been authorized:

nz_upy (join date Sept '02, 106 posts)

Konquest02 (June '02, 176 posts)

The next two are awaiting authorization:

Thrumble (Nov '02, 133 posts) Togas has acknowledge Thrumble's involvement in the RolePlay team.

Duddha (Nov '02, 459 posts)

For your information, the others I have checked on, some with Mark's input, some with ptw team leaders' help, have been HarryH, rush, and oliverfa. I am not uncomfortable with any of these. However, if you are uncomfortable with any of the names authorized to-date, either these three or anyone else, please raise it here for discussion.

THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO BE REMINISCENT OF EVENTS IN SALEM, MASS. (THE WITCH-HUNT) OR THE MCCARTHY HUNT FOR REDS. AND THIS IS NOT A POPULARITY CONTEST. I AM SIMPLY TRYING TO RESPECT AND BALANCE THE RIGHTS OF THE TEAM VS THE RIGHTS OF THE INDIVIDUALS. I NEED YOUR HELP TO DO THIS CONSTRUCTIVELY.

I can personally vouch for both Thrumble and Duddha. As for the other two... I think that anyone who joined before the possibility of an InterSite DG was even discussed are only as suspect as the rest of us. I think the problem will be, and what we will have to discuss, is when we have settlers with 8 posts coming in.

How could they? This is the private forum, remember? They will get access here after you authorize them.

Btw, AFAIK, Konquest02 is a regular poster in the strategy forum. I don't know him too well but I wouldn't worry about him (too much ). Maybe you should ask Theseus or other "strategy" guys.

Hi Tiberius. I think you misinterpreted my post earlier post. They have already been authorized - either on the first round when Mark did a pile, or afterwards, and hesitantly, by myself. Then there was a pile of discussion about this, and Mark's suggestion to me to check with the team - aso that is what I am doing. Konquest02 and nz_upy are on this team right now - I just want to make sure everyone is OK with that.

(and again - my apologies to the two of you. This is my lack of familiarity with you rather than any great suspicion.)

nz_upy has been lurking on the SPDG for months now. He occasionally posts, and certainly votes. That is more or less the extent of what I know about him, beyond that he seems to be Kiwi, making him instantly worthy of consideration under the banner "trustworthy"

I don't post often, but that's because I am on oversea assignment, and I don't have a copy of Civ installed on my laptop.

But I have been following the Civ III Demo Game, and have been voting religously.
