You really don't think these things through do you? If you have blanket exclusion of asylum seekers, the only people you'll succeed in excluding are genuine asylum seekers.

Treat it as an exam question. Here we go- "Terrorists would never enter Britain as tourists because.....".

So where next? Ban all tourism to Britain? Even white people? Then ban all foreign vessels entering British waters, because cargo vessels and private yachts could carry dirty bombs or anthrax?

Perhaps we'd be safer from terrorism. Presuming you've been paying attention in those lectures and have a measure of common sense, what economic impact do you feel this would have on Britain?

These "national security" arguments against asylum seekers are great. You could park trucks in the holes in them.

First point- by definition, Asylum Seekers have openly declared their presence in this country and details of their background. Otherwise they aren't asylum seekers.

Second point- If Al-Qaedr can smack 3 jets into major buildings, why do you feel it would pose them any problems to steal, forge or simply pay for the documentation required to get a UK passport? Meaning they would enter this country totally unmolested and unsupervised, of course.

Thirdly- how the hell do you track 4-5 million tourists around the country?

Aren't Economics students supposed to be grounded in reality? You're so desperate to find some justification to exclude a few Asylum seekers that you're living in some sort of weird fantasy.

Details of their background? Yeah, that's why they discard important documents so the authorities don't know for sure their origins.

A less simple examination of the cases shows that it was terribly easy for those terrorists to slam planes into buildings. It was as a result of lax immigration controls that they were in the country, too.

Because national pride just seems stupid to me. I like the UK, I think it is a good place to live and I'm happy here, but am certainly not proud to be British or proud of Britain in general. I simply can't see how something like pride can be extended to encompass a whole nation.

Fvck that. I'm much prouder of the Irish parts of my ancestory than the British bits.

Our culture is something to be proud of, especially the way we absorb other cultures and make our own richer.

I'd rather be thought of as European than British these days. People like the BNP and the National Front and the other bits of football hooligan culture have sullied the idea of British patriotism by associating it with racism, violence, glorification of our past attrocities and isolationism.
