Hmmm. Very interesting.
What point does that thread serve? Vox already has the sympathies of most of the other players, and most likely of each official team. So why post the thread?
Simple, to allow a forum for prominent members of the other teams to address us in an attempt to weaken our resolve and attempt to cow us into allowing Vox to remain as a small presense at the expense of our power. Togas, that figures. MasterZen, no surprise. vondrack? Threatening? This is an interesting turn of events. Curiously, in this thread GFarb appears as a foil to lessen the impact of GoW's position. Perhaps they do not wish to risk too much in antagonising us as the fourth power of Bob.
What's that? Fourth power of Bob? You bet your buns on it. If Vox goes down, we will be one tile from GoW, and a short, Lighthouse assisted cruise from RP. For all intents and purposes, we will be as Bobian as the British are European. Seperated by snips of water easily navigated by us, but which serve as our ramparts to guarantee the security of our island realm. This upsets the equations mightily, and thus the efforts to undermine our resolve to finish Vox now, before any of Bob could be in a position to stop us.
The most curious bit, to me, is the stake of Lego. Where do they sit, and why would they care? Are vondrack's efforts made out of some sense of loyalty to a civ who is dying as a consequence of carrying out Lego's bidding? Or would an official with Lego go so far as to threaten us, even if he disclaims official status, simply to keep a trading partner around? A trading partner who is now crippled beyond any ability to recover. What does Lego gain if Vox remains on our land?
Hmmm, this is all very curious. Truely, in this game we live in interesting times.

Excellent post on the public thread, btw, MSS.
EDIT: MSS, ignore the next paragrpah (duh, you are the FAM after all), but I'm leaving it for everyone else.
But, although I am advocating a somewhat riotous and seemingly uncontrolled approach, we need group consensus on where we go from here, and until we get to that point I agree with the general sentiment that we are getting our diplo ass KICKED... I suggest we all shut the heck up for a bit, play the turn, and figure out what to do / what approach to take next.

You've been doing alot of work lately.
There's no way I could have kept up.
I think we did a good job on the thread- we seemed to have peeled the onion- attention is no longer drawn to Beta's false accusation, but towards the real problem: GS is becoming (too)strong. The fact that we made others say they wish to see us weakend, is a step in our effort to tear the veil of hypocrisy. I think that when conducting honest diplomacy, we do quite well.
Also, the fact that we got our butts kicked diplomatically could not have been helped by a great deal. In the end, it comes down to interests, and I'm sure Vox made a good work of showing what a monstrosity (in terms of power) we're becoming, that's not that hard, given the fact that we really are that powerful.
You just can't look at the strongest kid in the block with envy, and still like him, no matter how fair and just he is.
Perhaps a good analogy will be the two ladies gossiping about that really attractive woman, but saying: "sure she's pretty, but I bet she's dumb as hell". Since everyone bullies on us on the diplomatic front, and since we also didn't play the diplomatic game quite as good as we should have, it's easy to say that we conduct "horrible diplomacy".

Can you imagine the moral outrage at the time? Such blatant and obvious falsehood, in the UN, no less?
And the general castigation of Russia among western / NATO nations?!
LMAO!!

Goddamnit, the more I think about this propanda nonsense, the more amused I get, and the more I see how vulnerable Vox and EVERYBODY else is, as long as we play it right. |
Nice comparison... if we wanted to have a funny way of trying to counter Beta's PR, we could use those immages, annotated with two texts: 1 saying "Beta demands peace", the other one saying "but who's shoe is he banging with?" If other teams want to see our reactions, we might do the same to them: some will feel offended, and might comment...

I would like to post this, or something like it in 'that thread.'

So - if this game is going to degenerate into a very personal affair, I for one don't know if I even want to continue. |
This is a very good point. However, I ask you if you can appreciate how many on GS may feel when threads like this one are launched periodically. And when this one is launched, senior members of three other teams come out to publically pressure us towards a course of action which is very much against our interests. And then during the course of the thread it becomes clear that those other teams were involved in a discussion that led to this thread?
Do you think that some members of GS may have had just about enough of the way this game is being played politically? Especially when we must conclude that the only point of this entire charade has been to undermine our resolve, or in other words, to play head games with us. Would it surprise you to know that some members of GS are beginning to question involvement in a game where lies about us and our actions are being lapped up by other members of this site and other teams in this game?
You are not the only one who thinks that certain aspects of this game are being carried entirely too far, and that we are dangerously near a place where relations between various mambers of this site could take a very sour turn if things continue as they have.
I may not be entirely accurate in my conclusions about this thread or about all who have participated. However, what I am accurate about is how it is being perceived in our forum. Sir Ralph is completely correct. This thread has turned the doves into hawks, and driven the hawks into a rage.
How would you feel if liberties with the truth were taken about you on a continual basis? To begin with it was fun, or mildly annoying. It has reached a point where some of us are rapidly losing interest in the game, and those who haven't are looking for the extinguishment of the source of the injury.

I'm fine with it... but can you wait a little bit until StormHawk is ready to go?
I'd like to sorta deluge everybody!!
nye and MSS should maintain the serious stuff, while some of us go a little crazy. (I need that jumbled head emotican from MZO )
Oh, and nye, could you give Ming a head's-up that we are going to try to stir things up a little, in a *good* way, and that we are committed to making sure it is 1) in the context of roleplay and the game, and 2) we will do our utmost to keep it out of the range of the personal. Thanks.
I am really hoping that doing StormHawk, etc., will lighten things up, get us past the issues of the past few days, and bring everybody back for some fun (and, for some of us, maybe blow off a little steam ).
