Okay... unless there are objections before I play the turn, the worker will move to the plain and road for the settler.

BTW, sorry to all those who I didn't respond to in the chat room. I accidentally left mIRC on earlier in the day without logging off or at least changing my nick. I do normally respond to people in chat.

s'okay. I usually browse 'Poly while mucking around in mIRC so I figured that's what you were up to.

As to the turn, I say go for it. When are we going to rename the worker? If he's available we might as well do it now. I don't remember what the name was supposed to be. Also, are we going to be naming our warriors?

Yeah, I usually browse while in chat as well, but a) I scroll up so mIRC beeps when something happens in a channel and b) if I'm on mIRC, I'm usually at least at the computer and can respond.

I believe we were going to name the worker "Farmer". I'll do that this turn.

Plans for next turn (3400 BC):
-Check slider! We should be able to save a few gold and still get Pottery in one turn.
-Change Buffet build to settler

If barbs are popped:
-Order worker to road
-Move warriors to protect the worker and Buffet first, the wheat tile second (wheat only if feasible)

If a settler is popped:
-Order worker S (the city will be founded so much quicker that I think the one turn delay will be worth improving the cattle sooner)
-Move exploratory warrior (near the worker) S
-Order Settler W

If neither is popped (eg we get gold, map):
-Order worker to road
-Move exploratory warrior (near the worker) S

Please discuss and suggest any changes or additions. I figure we might as well explore south since that's where the warrior is heading now, but I'm quite open to a change there; it wouldn't take too many turns to re-orient west.

I agree with S first with the western Warrior. If we get a Warrior from the hut, we could send the hut Warrior back to Buffet, and the one from Buffet N then W.

Got spare money?

Question: When do non-hut barbs start appearing?

I ask because there's a hut on what is now our border (NW-NW-N of Buffet, IIRC). We could grab it with our guard warrior, but that would leave the worker unprotected for a few turns. What do you all think? And does anyone know when camps first appear?

At Monarch/Roaming... ~2500BC when the first camps appear normally. This map was edited though right? In edited maps the barbs camps show much earlier sometimes. I know I've seen 3800BC barb camps show up on an edited map before.

What did we get (or not get) from the SE hut?

Woops, sorry, forgot to report about the hut. We got Ceremonial Burial. Better than barbs, at least...

I'm not sure it matters what editing was done, just the fact that it was edited.

Ceremonial Burial is certainly better than barbs. Bummer it wasn't a better tech though (bronze working or the wheel would have been nice). I imagine we won't be building much culture for a while at least.

Actually I did modify the rules, but nothing about barbarians.

I modified all difficulty levels to be equivalent to monarch so that it wouldn't matter if we changed difficulty levels halfway through the game.

However, I don't know anything about the Huts... Jabba??

I really have no idea what triggers the earlier spawns on an edited map. Given our terrain, I think we're safe sending out the Warrior. If Barbs are coming, they pretty much have to pass by our explorers on the way at this point.

3350 BC:
-Choose ? as our next research project and set slider to 100% science
-Big Eater S
-Fat Bastard ?

Fat Bastard is a tough choice. We could move him SE to explore a little, but this would leave a one-turn security gap in which a barb coming onto the forest N-N of Buffet after this move would have a chance at sacking Buffet. This would only be one-turn, however; Fat Bastard would move back after that anyway to garrison Buffet and make the third citizen happy, saving us a little lux money.

Put an end to popups!

3100 BC:
-Buffet completes settler. Start on a second warrior next? (Set the citizen on working the bonus grass for this turn if so.)
-Settler moves S-SW (2-1) and founds city. (Name?) Build: Granary. Make sure it works the cattle (working wheat won't speed up first growth unless it's for more than 1 turn, and we need to get Buffet's pop up)
Big Eater moves ? (S would move us inland. SW would ensure we're sticking close to the coast.)

Get a bigger avatar today!

I think we should go with 3,3,4,4,3,3 growth in the second city. It will put us perfectly on track for finishing the granary, and then a 4,5,5,6 Settler cycle.

We don't need a Worker out of Buffet until it will grow to size 3. We end up using an unmined Grassland for 3 turns in the second city, but those 3 turns have 15 shields left on the Granary, and it's already at 5 shields. 6 wouldn't speed it up at all. So either a couple Warriors first out of Buffet, or we could go with a Barracks and then Vet Warriors.

We can have a Barracks in Buffet, 7 Warriors (up to 5 Vets depending on when we build the Barracks), 3 cities, 2 Settlers (if we build one from Buffet, otherwise only 1 and 30 shields more military), and 2 Workers at 1990BC.

3050 BC:
-Big Eater S (2)
-Farmer N-NE-E (8-9-6)
-Buffet switch to mined grass, Chow Mein switch to Wheat. (if I interpret Aeson's plan correctly, Chow Mein would spend two turns on the wheat. Buffet can build the warrior in 4 turns if it works the bonus grass for three turns; that would leave the wheat unused for a turn and delay Buffet growth by a turn. What do you guys think?)

When a city grows it gets the shields for the tile the new laborer works the same turn. So if Buffet uses the Wheat and grows a turn earlier, it gets the +4 food and the extra 2 shields.

As to Big Eater I 'd say it depends on what we want to accomplish. There looks to be a jungle south which means if we continue on then we'll probably have contact with a civ soon. If we want that (and I think we do so we can possibly start some tech trading) then continue south. Then when we have another exploratory warrior in our core we can send him SE from there.

ugh... Poly ate my post

-------------

We can get 2 Warriors out the same time either way (maximizing growth, or maximizing production). The difference is we get 2 more food (and the earlier population growths that come with it) by using the Wheat, or a Warrior out a turn earlier by using the mine.

Using the Wheat: (turn: city size, food stored, production)

1: 1, 12, 4 (switch to wheat)
2: 1, 16, 5
3: 2, 0, 8 (using wheat + mine)
4: 2, 4, 11 (Warrior, switch to using mine + mine)
5: 2, 6, 5
6: 2, 8, 10 (Warrior?)

Using the Mine:

1: 1, 12, 4
2: 1, 14, 7
3: 1, 16, 10 (Warrior, switch to Wheat)
4: 2, 0, 3 (using Wheat + Mine)
5: 2, 4, 6 (switch to Mine + Mine)
6: 2, 6, 11

I don't think either way will interfere with Chow Mein, as it will have 4 turns to give the Wheat to Buffet.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I switched the food tiles around again per your +2 food plan, Aeson.

It looks like Big Eater's approaching another sweet location... the area seems to be a good mix of hills and grasses/future grasses, and there's a river. The distance seems about right too, so I think we're approaching another civ.

2850 BC:
-Buffet finishes Warrior; next project Barracks
-Big Eater ?
-New Warrior named "Fatty" and move NW to the hut
-Farmer road
-Buffet citizen on wheat switch to mined grass
-Chow Mein citizen switch to wheat

We have several options with Big Eater. W on to the hill would give us a temporarily wider sight, though it would take a little longer to then proceed south. S on the forest sends us deeper south, though there is a jungle tile just visible, and there may more of it. (Perhaps we've found Team Monkey? ) E would send us eastward around the possible jungle.
