WB, Pave!

What's the word on Pacman, anybody?

And should I send out the e-mail again regarding setting up our 2x2 game Pave, or is Pacman even going to be returning any time soon to play.

pacman is back and has resumed our 1x1 game so it should be alright to start the 2x2.

Below I am repeating an earlier post about the match scoring, and about how games are one and lost. I believe that these were the final agreed rules for these particular issues. I think we should codify these in stone at this point.

If nobody posts here requesting to change this by September 6, I'll add this to the rules in the summary thread.

2 match points for the winning team in a 2x2 game
0 match points for the losing team in a 2x2 game
last man standing counts

1 match point for the winner in a 1x1 game
0 match points for the loser in a 1x1 game

For "tie breaker points" we will operate as follows

1x1:
each *9 = 1 point
win < 100 = 10 points
win < 150 = 5 points

2x2
each *9 1st = 2 points
each *9 2nd = 1 point
win < 100 = 10 points
win < 150 = 5 points

There is no penalty for resigning.
In fact the structure encourages resigning at either
100 or 150.

The player that wins a *9 should post it on the main league thread. The main super league thread will be started when the matches start.

Is this scoring objectionable to anyone?

I have added the following:

You may win a 1x1 by

anihlation of your opponent.
alien race
4xPG
or Your opponent resigns.

All of these give the same point value 1 point

All of these types of wins are also valid by 2x2
except that there is no 4xPG in the 2x2.

PG is the power graph that we use to determine the *9's.

Here is an example of how 4xPG can be calculated

usually a rule of thumb will do too
when your opponent agrees you have 4xPG you can rightly claim to have it.

as for the rating system for super league, checkMate.
there is one suggestion i would like to make:

if we left the bonus points for fast wins away, we could use the % or difference value of "won" / "total" or "won" - "not won" as tie-breaker.
this would also encourage conceding a game early because you only screw up your ratio/difference otherwise.

just a suggestion.
if no one cares supporting it, i'll go with the way you described above, checkMate.

Put an end to popups!

Why don't you think it is incentive enough already?
If you let your opponent rack up *9's, these will weigh agains *9's that you may be racking up against others.
If you resign early you limit your opponent with or without using a difference. However, the difference is actually slightly better.

But why does this using a difference link to the fast wins? I think we would want to keep fast win bonus either way?

Regarding scoring, it is really only the win/loss column that matters. Isn't the 9* scoring just to try and track how things are going while the game is being played? And possibly for breaking ties (player vs player or team vs team) in the standings?

If so, any system that is applied consistently will do. For those who advance the game along with MODs, oh well. The rules are based for those who play the standards.

The fast wins refer to the extra bonus for winning less than 100 or less than 150 not the MODs.

Its kind of sour grapes a little but I really think the *9 scoring is more interesting than the game scoring, but I lost the argument to have the *9 scoring be the paramount scoring for the tournament.

agreed.
that would have made for more action in the ratings, but it would also have been less meaningful IMO.

as for the percentage/difference/bonus issue.
it's okay for me to use it.

my reasoning was just that:

in the current system, you simply give more *9 points to your direct opponent when you dont concede early, whereas in my proposed version you directly hurt your *own* statistics when you dont concede in time.

so, the problem with the bonus points is to calculate the percentage/difference in a proper way.

just a thought. as i said, if no one jumps in on my side, i'll glady go with what we have.

I just realized that one bad thing about the 1x1 revenge match is that the player to finish a game gets a lighter load at the same time that his partner gets a hevier load.

Well if neither of them want to argue the point in the next few days we could post in the recruitment thread.

But first I think we should poll everyone to see whether they would just rather drop them and go back to just eight teams?

Since all teams have started games with SCF and they're all in the beginning - within the first 10 turns - I would recommend we find subs but preferably players that are into CtP PBEM for some time to avoid similar surpises in the future where things will be more difficult.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

quote:
Many of the players have been requesting and recieving their partners turns in the 2x2 games. They are looking at their partners position.

I mention this because some may not think that they can do that, but since so many players have been doing it, we would have to say it is legal.

You can request that your opponents send both you and your partner each of the turns, you can just request the other turn from time to time, or you can even just get your parnter to forward you the turn. Whatever suits you better is fine.

But, everyone please do look at your partners turns. If you don't, the players that do so may have an unfair advantage. They will be able to meet there partner sooner and start exchaning technology/maps etc...

Whoever started this I think this is a terrible idea! When Math first mentioned he was looking at rickety's turns I thought he was joking. It takes alot of the fun out of this. Checkmate says players can start trading maps sooner, what's the point if you are looking at his turns anyway?!

I was always under the impression that anyone other than a moderator looking at someone's turn was a major rules violation (A reason why moderators are not supposed to be players in their games). So does this mean in any of my non SL games if I have an alliance with someone I can open thier turns? Why not just play it like a board game and we all look at everyone's turns!

I thought this was supposed to be a game of establishing a Civilization. Making decisions that are going to effect your society for all time. Think of all the great explorers in history, do you think that any of them would have done what they did if they knew what they would find when they got there?

This has taken alot of the fun out of this for me, and I have lost quite a bit of interest in this. I can't see how this can make the game any more enjoyable. I ask everyone that are in games with me not to do this. If you already have please stop.

if everyone agreed on this, its fine with me.
but how do you intend to judge on the issue of players telling their partner in which part of the map they are "in words" like "upper left" or something ?

I don't care. I try to stick to the spirit of the game and assume my opponents have the integrity to do the same. I would rather stick to what I think is right and lose, than achieve a hollow victory. If others don't feel the same that's their issue not mine. I have asked my opponents not to partake in that activity in games I'm in. I have no way of monitoring whether they do or not, nor do I care to. I will not be doing this. If flameflash feels this puts him at a disadvantage and would like another partner, I understand. I was excited about playing in Superleague so I could match my skill to the other players out there, but I now think the emphasis is more on a quick victory then on skillfull play.

i put it this way:
if something is legal, i will use to my advantage.
if not, i will desist from using it.

thats my basic rule for all games.
so, this being said, id really like it to be clarified if cooperating position-wise with your partner in any way is considered legal or not.

I suppose viewing other games your partner is playing is okay, to see his style of play if you like.

But opening turns in play is a BIG nono, IMO.

I originated this practice in SL2, having had it suggested by TheBirdMan in an older game of a similar format. Not only does it save an awful lot of typing when communicating with your partner about strategy, but it also allows the partner to "next" his team mate should the need arise.

I can appreciate your point of view Milamber, I should have consulted with the other members of the League before unilaterally deciding to go with it. However, the genie is well and truly out of the bottle now.

Never the less, I will abide by your wish in our game (from now on).
