This is soley due to your apparent inability to read what is actually written instead of what is made up in your head when you want to go and jump on your favorite targets. What I disapproved of was the celebrating of Thurmond's death after the fact. Until Robertson actually does die and you witness me doing backflips and singing Hallelujah, then you can have your snit.

Good! So go away and let us resume our Robertson-bashing fun without an imp coming in to snipe at imagined hypocrisy.

I'll have you note that I've wished death on Bin Laden, and since I see no real difference between one fanatical hatemonger and another, I have been consistent. Thank you.

So it's alright to wish death on people, but in bad taste to admit you're happy about it when they finally do kick the bucket? Do you realize how absurd this justification you've concocted is? You better get back to changing the subject, for your own sake.

Why is it absurd to wish that people who actively engage in hurting others be gone from the world? I take no particular joy in hoping Robertson takes dirt nap, and when he does die I won't gloat a bit. But he hurts people--lots of them--and shouldn't be able to do it anymore.

The other point is that the celebrating has to do with the living, not the dead. However evil and nasty a man may be, his loved ones are owed a due bit of reverence when he passes and they mourn. Just as Thurmond's family should have been spared the gleeful shouts when they lost him, so too should Robertson's family be spared. The cheering is just adding to the misery of those who aren't gulity, as the dead man isn't around any more to see it. What matters it to the dead how we react to their passing? It's those left behing that is of concern then.

But while Robertson is alive, it's open season. He wants to preach hatred against entire groups, fine. I return his hatred on an individual level. His words and actions have merited the judgement. He wants me to die? Fine, I want him to die. I have no qualms about that.

I completely agree.

And I think the same.. he wants me to die? Well.. that has warrented the same judgement from me towards him. On a different note, does anybody really listen to Robertson other than the miniscule religious nutcase minority?

Oh lord, is that the excuse you're going with? That you were justified in attacking Sava for his comments, because you needed to protect the family of Strom Thurmond? I seriously doubt the family was going to see a post on Apolyton. Come off it.

Fine, preach your hatred all you want. It's your right. In the future, however, don't act so shocked and apalled when someone expresses the exact same sentiments about a person, living or dead.

The 700 Club has had a substantial viewership, but it has dwindled significantly over the years. The fact is that most of the intolerants who sopped up Robertson's crap were older, and as they die off, they aren't getting replaced that fast. The Christian Coalition and other fundamentalist groups are suffering similar problems. Coupled with the general increasing societal tolerance, such movements seem destined for the fringe. But I wouldn't dismiss their power just yet. They can still muster enough electoral muscle to get Republicans in a tizzy over them.

Oh, your vendetta gets funnier and funnier!

Your selective memory is amazing, as well. You'll note that my major complaint against Sava wasn't that he was just celebrating, but he was doing so after he was asked to stop and was disrupting the tone of the thread, which I had established as being a bit more respectful. I was hoping to get some serious discussion on Strom's impact and legacy, not sophomoric cheers. I didn't "attack" Sava for celebrating, just said I found it distasteful. I did get on him when continued to act like a jackass, which was disruptive.

Whether or not the family sees the comments is irrelevant. Robertson will probably not see what I wrote here, nor will it have one iota of impact on whether or not he actually lives or dies. So by that logic, where's the problem?

Oh such noble sentiments! Look, I stand behing my consistency. I'm just surprised you don't have the guts to admit there are folks you'd like to see kick the bucket. I have no shame in admitting there are a few (very few) people I think would make the world nicer by croaking. I certainly don't see it as inconsistent with believing celebrating their deaths is inappropriate.

Anyway, I expect you to be all over people who cheer for Saddam's death, or Bin Laden's, or whatever now. Wouldn't want to see you exposed to your own accusations of hypocrisy!

Compare the amount of clout the Religious Right has with the GOP as opposed to the Democrats.

The GOP still has to pander to the RR, especially in the Bible Belt. The Democrats aren't under such obligations, as they've resigned themselves to losing those votes anyway.

There are a few Democrats, once again mostly in the Bible Belt, who are in the RR's clutches, sure. But their numbers are pale in comparison to similarly-indebted Republicans, and on a national level the RR is solely a factor in the GOP's platform and vote-mustering.

Religious fundamentalism is a problem with the party I support, sometimes there are republicans I choose not to support. Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the democratic party always known as the KKK party?

AS, when are you going to stop talking out of your posterior?

You do realize it has been urban centers that have led the way on enacting gay civil rights measures, including partner benefits, non-discrimination laws, etc?

Here's some statistical numbers for you, instead of your own (limited) worldview:

Poll finds youth support for gay rights
___WASHINGTON (RNS)--Two-thirds of recent high school graduates support the right of gays and lesbians to marry, including an astonishing 80 percent of Catholics and 46 percent of Protestants who do not describe themselves as "born again."
___Those findings were released as part of a sweeping survey of high school attitudes on homosexuality conducted by MTV, Zogby International and Hamilton College.
___The poll found greater acceptance for gays and lesbians--as teachers, friends, Scouts and classmates--in the class of 2001 than among their parents or grandparents. Only 39 percent of graduates said "gay lifestyles are morally wrong."
___Among the poll's findings:
___ 71 percent support the right of gays to serve as Scout masters.
___ 88 percent support hate crimes legislation to protect gays.
___ 68 percent support adoption by gay and lesbian couples.
___ 79 percent support gay employment anti-discrimination laws.

That's the up-and-coming generation, AS.

And this is from 2001:

http://www.unionoflove.com/tribalsp...essages/38.html

Who is the "masses" of whom you speak? Your immediate neighbors?

Take a trip outside of your hood sometime Speer, it will do you good.
