It is official, the people have spoken. The enormously unpopular California Governor Gray Davis will stand for a recall election. If the majority vote for recall, Davis will be replaced by the candidate receiving the most votes on the same ballot. At this time, no Democrat will run against Davis, thus assuring a Republican or Independent will replace Davis should the recall succeed. As of now, the majority of Californians want Davis out.
Arnold Schwazenegger is considering running as are a number of other Republicans, Independents, etc.
What is interesting about all this, is that this is not a two-step procedure. The replacement election is conducted at the same time as the recall election. This virtually guarantees that any replacement will receive only a small plurality of the whole vote. Also, the fact that Democrats will not field a replacement candidate essentially means that Democrats have to choose among Republicans, Independents, Anarchists and Wacko-Greens for a replacement.
Interesting.

Gepap, I doubt that seeing how the democratic party has failed California. |
Fez, you know my opinion of you, which is rock bottom, but this is too absurd to ignore: lets see, the Dems control the Governorship, the leuitenant Gov, Both Houses of the legislature, both senate spots, and I would bet, though I am not sure, that they have the plurality of Congressional spots form the State as well, plus Bush got wipped there in 2000. Add to that that, when voters were asked about possible candidates, Ahnold and Riordan both came in with 11%, while Sen. Feinstein came in with 28%.Oh, and if you are just goign to call me a liar, get your skinny ass to the websites of California state and fed. government and see just how "failed" the Democracts in Cali. are.
