It sounded like you were lumping all Catholics as kow-towing to fascism during World War II.

I'm not saying Catholics themselves aren't good people or faithful, I'm saying the church is corrupt and not representative of the values in the Bible.

Ok -- but what I'm saying is that the official policy of the Catholic Church during World War II did not reflect the values of other people within the Catholic Church.

Glad you have some sense left.

I recognize and agree with that. But you are wrong about one thing... I have no more sense left. And that's assuming I had some to begin with.

Nuts to you! We're as protestant as any other protestant group. It's just that we've always protested about things that really matter, like translating worship and bibles into our native languages, discarding phony indulgences and relics, and removing the screening barriers between the celebrants and the congregation. We just don't happen to nit pick over silly stuff like how many people will be allowed into heaven or whether or not it's kosher to baptise babies. If we don't think that one particular church official is God's suprimo voice on earth, then on the other hand we generally don't believe that one particular nation is God's one chosen nation on earth and that 911 was some kind of wake up call to go out and bash gays and muslims.

Golly, I can't quite recall what the Lutherans did about fascism. Was it something along the lines of signing up for it with vigorous enthusiasm? We might also recall that it was only a few years ago that the Southern Baptist Convention issued a formal apology for its past rabid endorsement of segregation and the Jim Crow laws, a policy that was contempory with fascism.

Say, since I seem to have started this food fight will I at least get mentioned the next time someone starts a "best Apolyton troll" poll?

The latter two, yes, but you seem to be saying the first aspect, accepting the Bible, relies on accepting a literal interpretation of the Bible only.

That's not what even a majority of Christians believe, at least in the Western world. I don't recall a point in the NT when Jesus states one must believe every word of the OT. Paul even alludes to not believing in aspects of the OT, such as the geneologies. The notion that one must believe every word, literally, is an evangelical one.

It's rather amusing that you, an athiest, are trying to tell people who can and can't be considered a true Christian.

In fact, it's rather amusing that I, an athiest, am pointing this out...

Gotta love the foods who don't think Catholics are Christians. The Catholic Church traces its roots back to " You are the rock upon who I build my Church". If only Protestants are Christians, was Christianity a religion started in the 16th century by Luther rather than in the 1st by Jesus?

Establishments can change. The Catholic church has drifted away from the very values of Christianity.

Well if you are going to be a Christian, I would suggest following either the Catholic, Orthodox, or Anglican churches. Everyone else has fabricated their own brand of Christianity and twisted it to suit their agendas.

Just funnin' with you, Doc. You guys, the Congregationalists, and the Quakers are all more than okay in my book; if my lapsed Catholicism ever turns into an active quest for Something Else, you'll probably find me knocking at your door.

But I'm still going to mock Baptists.
