I seriously doubt that. If you asserted "caused to die," there might be a chance. "Killed," no.

When you refuse to give people food and then work them to death then you are killing them. Don't try to white wash the Chinese Communist Party's attrocites.

The "Great Leap Forward" was one of the largest mass slaughters in the history of humanity and no one was ever punished for it.

Is the real issue here that the Chinese government is criticising Japan because the Chinese don't want to admit that a proportion of their adult population are sufficiently greedy or stupid to mess with leftover chemical weapons? The Japanese can't dig up most of China to find the stuff and can't deal with it if the locals have already opened the drums instead of reporting them and leaving well alone.

As for Germany, I really wish the Germans would get their act together and go back to what they have done best for the last century or so - kicking French butt whenever French politicians get inflated ideas about their own importance and national capabilities. This is a German national right and an essential part of German self image since 1815.

This I seriously doubt. The Japanese routinely went on killing sprees whenever they had a chance.

As for the Chinese government, the vast majority of the millions who died during Mao's reign were killed by Mao's stupidity. That's quite different from the friendly and polite Japanese who went around deliberately raping and murdering people.

No, the current model has satisfactory performance parameters and no further development is planned.

Seriously, the EU would be a better prospect if Germans were a little more outspoken and French politicians didn't come across as seeing the EU as an exercise in benefiting France and stuff everyone else.

That may be image rather than truth but presentation is usually the most important factor in politics.

BTW I am impressed with the restraint of your post Davout

So what does the Chinese government do to publicise the problem and encourage people to report such finds to the authorities?

Possible but unlikely. Retreating armies don't usually keep much in the way of records. What records were made were probably destroyed when the Soviets overran the Japanese in Manchuria. AFAIK nothing much was ever handed over to the post war Japanese government by the USSR.

The primary purpose of the EU is not to please to the rest of the world, it is for the nations within to be happy together. The whole Europe feels better when Germans and French are cooperating friendly. And we are doing so, and we are both doing our best to keep that close relationship.
Over time, it should not be excluded that some specialization was assigned to the members, and it is not impossible that the Germans find the outspoken French quite useful on certain subjects where the EU has specific interests to protect. You should not believe that the actual influence of Germany is proportional to their diplomatic noise; and you should not believe either that you would always like the effect of this influence.

My point was specifically about the relationship between the member states of the EU.

Nations are never happy, people are either happy or not. Nations are devices to meet collective aspirations. If they succeed then the people in them are happy, if not, then not.

I like the implication that the French role in the EU is to shout loudly whilst the Germans get on with the real work.

I'm not saying the Japanese weren't mass murderers. They certainly were. It's just really hard to top the Great Leap Forward.

Make excuses all you want, but millions of Chinese died because of Mao's leadership, just as surely as if they were killed by the Japanese. The Chinese might do well to reflect on their recent history while they lambast a Japanese government that has killed no one in the past 50+ years.

There is a figure of speech using the container in lieu of the content.

I decidedly think that the model V could incorporate some rethorical education module. :

No the real point is Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi regularly visits the Yakusune (sp?) shrine to honour Japan's war dead and this infuriates China and other East Asian nations because the remains of many Japanese war criminals are kept there. It is also a favoured haunt of Japanese ultranationalists.

The Chinese government is using this case to remind Japan of the atrocities the Imperial Army committed in China. The poor man who found the mustard gas shell died a horrible death.

You people really need to learn to link the news together properly if you're ever going to understand international diplomacy

oh, please, what is this supposed to prove?

the reason the rest of the asians are pissed at japan is not because the japanese killed their own people. the japanese killed other people.

if china had raped and killed hundreds of thousands in japan and korea in recent memory, you can bet the hatred would be sent their way too.

chinese killing chinese doesn't concern japanese or koreans. japanese killing koreans and chinese concerns koreans and chinese.

What makes things worse is Japan keeps trying to whitewash its war record. The Education Ministry is obsessed with re-writing and sanitising history in school textbooks. The whole country gives the impression of being in denial about Japan's role in the Pacific war.

Haven't you ever heard the phrase "let he who is without sin cast the first stone"?

More simply put, do you know what hypocrisy is?

quote:
chinese killing chinese doesn't concern japanese or koreans. japanese killing koreans and chinese concerns koreans and chinese.

What about Chinese killing Koreans? Does that bother you, since the dead are part of your ethnic group? The Chinese were the last foreign nation to invade Korea, yet all your hatred goes toward the Japanese. Why is that?
