Yep. It's slower and more painful.

Is the real issue here that the Chinese government is criticising Japan because the Chinese don't want to admit that a proportion of their adult population are sufficiently greedy or stupid to mess with leftover chemical weapons? The Japanese can't dig up most of China to find the stuff and can't deal with it if the locals have already opened the drums instead of reporting them and leaving well alone.
As for Germany, I really wish the Germans would get their act together and go back to what they have done best for the last century or so - kicking French butt whenever French politicians get inflated ideas about their own importance and national capabilities. This is a German national right and an essential part of German self image since 1815.

This I seriously doubt. The Japanese routinely went on killing sprees whenever they had a chance.
As for the Chinese government, the vast majority of the millions who died during Mao's reign were killed by Mao's stupidity. That's quite different from the friendly and polite Japanese who went around deliberately raping and murdering people.

No, the current model has satisfactory performance parameters and no further development is planned.
Seriously, the EU would be a better prospect if Germans were a little more outspoken and French politicians didn't come across as seeing the EU as an exercise in benefiting France and stuff everyone else.
That may be image rather than truth but presentation is usually the most important factor in politics.
BTW I am impressed with the restraint of your post Davout

What makes things worse is Japan keeps trying to whitewash its war record. The Education Ministry is obsessed with re-writing and sanitising history in school textbooks. The whole country gives the impression of being in denial about Japan's role in the Pacific war.
