Yes- except that it was 1886 and I only got fudamentalism in 1891 (when I took Kiev)...

But you're right, I could have found a cheaper alternative... I think I found this food caravan lying around when I started, and so just decided to use it...

Note that even if it existed before, it's no excuse because I believe I built another one for Coastal Fortress...

Status report: as I expected, the turns are taking a long time. I've played through the end of 1897 so far, and the invasion is well underway. The Russians are reduced to 3 cities (from 8 at the start of my tenure), the Vikings from 17 to 13 (and, more importantly, from >6000 gold to just under 2000), and the Mongols from 3 to 1. I haven't handled partisans very well, leaving forts open behind my lines, but I'll be ready for them next turn.

Stu - I'm busy in Real Life at the moment, and am going through something of a Civ II hiatus. I'll rejoin succession games when I'm happy, rather than disappointed, when my turn rolls around.

I join with Stu in the wish for your happiness and well being. Hope is that "this too shall pass" is the order of the day. For what it's worth, I have found, in my circumstance, that a disappointment is a reassessment that has not yet been made. Be well my friend.

Stu and Monk,

Thanks for your concern, but I didn't mean to imply any personal crisis - I'm just busy with wife, kids, and work. I have very little time left over for gaming, and, frankly, would rather spend it on other games than Civ II. I still try to keep up with my friends here, but don't have much interest in playing at the moment.

OK, five turns seems like enough at this point. Highlights: the Mongols are no more, the Russians and Vikings should be gone next turn. The English were inconsiderate enough not to clear a path through the jungle to their few remaining cities. The Chinese remain unmolested, but are now squarely in the crosshairs. The Japanese and their hidden city of Shimonoseki are still out there somewhere...

Excess white goods have been sold, a few rushbuilds have been made, but I tried to leave some decisions for my successor.

The details:
1894 Sell research/growth buildings. Sliders to 5.0.5 for celebrations. Build engineers in cities with extra food, howies in cities with barracks, transports in coastal cities, spies or fanatics otherwise. Put Elvis to work; change him to a tax collector where there's no available tile.
Build Northport. Barb leader captured (nicely set up, Cyrion!).
Russians get Mass Production from the Chinese, Miniaturization from the English for Mass Production.
Japanese get Tactics from the Chinese for Chemistry.
Mongols get Automobile from the Japanese.
Pollution near St. Petersburg.
1895 Sliders to 8.0.2, income is 2418. Sabotage Russian cruiser off Yakutsk, spy is lost . Move damaged units to Minsk and Moscow to heal. There are no barracks on the home continent (though I could swear I had some on my last turn :mad. Pillage Russian forts with extra units. Kursk bribed for 210. Build Tithes 1, Tithes 2. Oil Kagoshima->OSM, 82.
Chinese get Electronics from Russians, Leadership from Japanese, Refining and Combustion from English.
Japanese get The Corporation from Chinese.
English get Electronics from Chinese, start Hoover.
Mongols get Physics from Japanese.
Vikings capture Krasnoyarsk , get Mass Production.
1896 Krasnoyarsk conquered, 288 gold. Westport, East Port, Tithes 3 built. Kharkov bribed for 523 gold , 123 gold plundered. Grozny bribed for 425 gold, 92 gold plundered. Maikop bribed for 402 gold, 82 gold plundered.
1897 Riga (31, destroyed), Skara (465), Trondheim (406, capital), Kaupang (418, capital), Roskilde (300, capital) captured. Viking cash goes from 6000+ to 1982 gold. Russian battleship near East Port bribed for 624 gold (ouch). Mongol Port built, Basra (100, 49), Khorasan (238, 41) bribed. Guerilla uprising near Nagoya.
Vikings get Flight from English.
1898 Ravening Enge (capital, 255), Uppsala (81), Westness (capital, 106), Jarlshof (1387, 71), Viborg (???), Aarhus (72), The Udal (32), Jorvik (52), Jarrow (40), Lunde (313, 15) captured/bribed.
Gibbon reports we are most advanced, followed by English, Vikings, Russians, Chinese, Japanese, Mongols.
1899 Lindholm (63), Nottingham (140), London (capital, 83), Warwick (33), Liverpool (capital, 41), Newcastle (11), Dover (17), Brighton (11), Hastings (11), Coventry (27), York (10) conquered. Coventry (385, 8), Oxford (440, 9), Shangtu (74, 40) bribed, Mongols destroyed.
Novgorod (1640, 424) bribed.
Odense (438, 232) bribed.
Hides Kashgar->OSM, 176; spice Pamplona->OSM, 85.
Two partisans disbanded in Brighton to rush-build a transport during revolt.

Notes for my successor: there are two engineers in the stack on the swamp east of Brighton; they should be able to road the square and allow some extra movement for the spies. The transport in Maikop is meant to explore the nearby island. Russian unit spotted at (64,52)!

Woav ! The world has changed a lot since the last time I played. We dominate to say the least. I decide to play it easy with lot of spying and money. Our opponents are all down but the Chinese. It looks so easy I don’t think we need a shipchain. 1st wave and rushbuilidng should be enough.
1900 ad. We incite revolt in Norwich and Vladivostok.
1901 ad. Revolt in Birmingham and Reading and Shimonoseki. Japanese are no more. Cambrdige spotted far away.
1902 ad. Super-East Star, One More Port founded. I build a lot of cruisers to protect convoys and to look for the remaining cities.
1903 ad. Whale 1 and Whale 2 founded. Leeds captured. Russian partisan spotted near Shimonesoki, a pleasant surprise. We sink some Chinese navy.
1904 ad. Chinese sink one of our transport (4 units lost), it shouldn’t be enough to stop us. We bribe Xinjang, Tientsin, Hangshow, Tsingtao, Cambridge and Nanking. Larne and Hedeby captured, Vikings are out.

Those five turns were fun. But it was way too easy. All the tough work had been done before. There is only a few cities left. If the last English cities are found, the game could be over in 10 turns. I whish my successor much pleasure with the moving of all our units.
Here is the save.
Sorry for the time I took to play my turns !

Holy bleep!

I didn't recognizae this map because, last time I played (1810 iirc) we had only exposed a couple civs, the Russians and Japs (again iirc). Actually had to Find City to locate our capital.

Now we have over 100 cities to deal with, along with a huge volume of naval units. Under 10 (can't recall exactly) enemy cities left to find and assimilate, with some significant blackspace left.

Might prove faster to go get Apollo (4 techs + 12 camels away) to expose these guys. The other alternative is to gift them until we can get their maps, but I'm guessing they aren't talking...

Just did a cursory glance last night (about 15 minutes). Hoping to get after it this weekend...

Found about 4 hours free. got through one full turn and about half the city list in build orders for the 2nd.

My hope was to finish this game, but I suspect there will be a recalcitrant city or two.

It might be more efficient to rush to Apollo and launch, as we could build freights by the ton and insta-=buy a SS. Only problem is, we're still 4 techs from Space Flight...

End Of Game Turnlog Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

1904, and -Jrabbit takes over the sprawling Fundamentalist empire that is O Sole Mio. He surveys the globe and sees 115 cities housing 58.96 MM ppl. Our power is Supreme and our reputation Questionable. Our economic program has sliders at 80-0-20, neting about 3,200 GP/turn! But wondering if we will need Apollo to map the globe, we switch to 30-50-20 (5 turns, +1,432 GP/turn).

We rule the world, save for 11 cities: one Russian, 2 English, and 8 Chinese. Unfortunately, we can see only 6 of these, and there is considerable blackspace remaining. Noting we have the Pyramids, 17 Granaries are sold for 1,020 GP. A few units are activated. Purchases are made, build orders modified, reducing our treasury to "only" 5,010 GP.
ENTER!

1905
--Russians ask us to vacate Kuibyshev. In response, we vacate it of Russians!
--Russian civilization destroyed.
--Hut yields fanatic.
--Tatung mapped, bribed for 313 GP (ROI = 34gp plunder, one rifleman).
--Bribe 2 Chinese partisans who are inhibiting needed troop movement.
--Spy reports shanghai (12) is defended by 2 riflemen, no walls.
--Spy reaches richmond, which revolts for 187gp. (ROI = 21gp, an alpine and an engineer)
--English want to chat, demanding Mobile Warfare. We give, then agree to CF and peace. Offer gifts: Computers, Robotics, Refrigeration, and 1350 gold makes them Properly Worshipful. Maps are exchanged, revealing location of their lone remaining city, Exeter.
--Anyang mapped.
--Bribe barb partisan for 102, ransom barb king for 150.
--Looks like we might be able to gift our way to the needed maps, so sliders go back to 80-0-20.

1906
--Chinese frigate sinks a fully loaded transport.
--English change governments.
--Pollution near Roskilde, Coventry, Kagoshima.
--WTArchbishopD starts in 2 cities.
--Hoover Dam completed in O Sole Mio. Chinese abandon; English switch to SETI. SG(2) would be pleased.
--Anyang revolts for 307 GP, spy captured. we get 27 plunder, an alpine, and 2 engineers.
--Chinese demand peace talks. We agree. Accede to demand for MobWar, cet CF, peace. Gifts required for Worshipful = Computers, Steel, Refrigeration, Theory of Gravity, and Polytheism.
--Maps exchanged, unveiling location of final 2 cities.
--Shangtung captured, with all of its 12gp.
--Exeter attacked. Defended by alpine, 2 partisans, and a transport. All are destryed. City taken, along with remaining treasury of 612 GP.
--English civilization destroyed.
--Various huts are popped, netting 350 GP and a rifleman.
--Chengdu revolts for 467 (48 plunder).
--Shanghai attacked and taken. 47 plunder.
--Pollution cleared.
--Lonely, bored engineer founds Salamis.
--Chinese capital of Beijing captured, 53 GP plundered. Resulting partisans bribed @ 130 GP each.
--Two cities remain: Canton (surrounded) ane Macao (on nearby island).
--Faders slide neatly to 10-10-80. Many temples rushed, all taxmen fired and replaced by Elvi.

1907
--Chinese switch to new government.
--Barbs near Riverton.
--WTAD celebrated anew in 63 cities.
--Canton captured.
--Macao captured.
--Chinese civilization destroyed.
--Various engineers join various cites to boost population score.

GAME OVER.
