Running into your ex. Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Weds. night I went out with some friends to the "A Taste of San Diego" event which was really just a tour of a bunch of the best restaurants in downtown San Diego. You pay $20 and then you get to sample the signature dishes at 40 of the city's top restaurants. Any way my friend's and I were having a great time eating food and downing drinks while roaming the city streets when who should I run into but my ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend.

At first when I saw her in La Gran Tapa (a Spanish restaurant) I didn't know what to do so I decided to just pretend I didn't see her. I even ended up going out side just so I could keep up the act which is childish I know but after going through a two year on again off again relationship with her (which ended for the last time 6 months ago) I really felt ackward about talking to her and meeting her new boyfriend. So any way she eventually spots me and comes over with her b/f to say hi.

Damn, I really missed her and I thought I was totally over her, which makes it even worse. I of course wasn't going to let her know that but I have to admit she looked really good. Christine was always a runner but it looks like she'd lost a bit of weight and toned up where as I'd put on a good 15 pounds. To top it off she'd gotten a big raise at work (she just finished her MBA last June) and the new boyfriend actually seemed like a really nice guy though he seemed a good 6-8 years older then her.

She asked me what I was doing in San Diego and how my job in Sacramento was going and I didn't have the balls to tell her I had lost my job. I instead lied and said I was on vacation and the job was going great. Wasn't that shallow of me? I guess I just couldn't admit to her she had progressed much further then me over the last half year. That doesn't even mention how I only had one six week long relationship since Christine and I broke up for the last time, which totally ended up being a drag.

So does anyone else have stories about meeting the ex after you broke up? Did it feel as ackward for you as it did for me? I mean here's someone whom I really honestly thought I was going to marry and who said she felt the same way but now I'm supposed to smile and pretend I like her new boyfriend? Looking back I realize we had a dysfunctional relationship (that's why we broke up so much) and I do want her to be happy but man it got under my skin to see her with another man (especially one so much older). Somebody tell me his or her relationship stories so I can commiserate with you.

Long before that, I had another run-in with an ex that was kinda funny. This was the first guy I had dated after moving to New York. We had irreconcilable differences, so parted ways. It wasn't a nasty breakup, but it was kind of like neither party having an interest in seeing the other again.

About 4-5 months after that, I went to a coffee shop in Chelsea that's popular with the gay crowd with my friend Matt. Matt is my best gay friend, and he's also really gorgeous. Anyway, we left to go see a movie, and outside the shop ran into my ex. I said hello and gave him a hug, and introduced Matt. It didn't click with me at first, but my ex seemed to be acting really strange, and kept complimenting me on how I looked. I explained that Matt and I were off to see a movie, and we left.

The next day, my ex left me a message asking if I wanted to get together for dinner or something, saying he had "missed" me. I was a little perplexed, since we had had literally no contact at all since breaking up, and it wasn't as if he made an effort. Then it clicked--he assumed Matt and I were dating, and was probably jealous at how hot Matt was... hehehe!

Well, at least you were able to get your ex jealous. I think I was the only one who was jealous when I ran into my ex. You see we kept doing this whole stupid break up and get back together thing because I was away for work or school or because she didn't have spare time because of work or school. Also she was older and her friends didn't approve of Christine dating a younger guy so occationally we'd get into fights and break up because so and so said she could do so much better then me, blah, blah, blah..

Any way usually a couple of weeks or even a month or two would pass and then one of us (normally me but not always) would send an e-mail to the other and we'd end up going out for lunch then it would just seem so natural for us to get back together again. In the beginning I was half expecting us to do the same this time but after a few months I gave up the ghost and decided to move on.

Now seeing her has brought it back but it seems she really has moved on and has moved up. I know I should just find another girlfriend but sometimes moving on is easier said then done.

I was engaged to be married about 25 years ago and she decded to marry my room mate instead. Then they invited me to their wedding. The whole thing was a nightmare for me that lasted a couple of years. Each time I saw them it was like my heart was being ripped to shreds again. Eventually I approached them both at a social function and gave her and him a very sincere hug and a few words of encouragement. I guess I just grew up and got over it.

Don't say that. The guy's probably a ****er. It's obvious that you still have some feelings for her, but it's really nothing to upset yourself over. Since this isn't such a big deal, I suggest that you spend sometime just doing the things that you like to do. Spoil yourself a bit and have some fun. You'll feel a whole lot better. Plus, you never know who you'll meet in the process.

The really funny thing is about three months ago I e-mailed Christine to tell her I was coming to San Diego to visit my folks and to go to my nephew's birthday party and I asked her if she wanted to go out for coffee. A week and a half go by and I'm assuming she just doesn't want to talk to me then the night before I leave she writes me back saying she'd love to go and gives me a time and place to meet her.

So any way the appointed time rolls around then the appointed time plus 30 minutes rolls around and she still hasn't shown. I've finish my coffee and I figure I got stood up and just as I'm leaving Christine walks in. Apparently she and the new boyfriend had been arguing alot (nothing new there Christine can become a real demon when she wants to) and they broke up the day before she wrote me the e-mail. Any way they were talking on the phone and she told him she was going for coffee with her ex-boyfriend (me) and I guess he flipped out and they had a big argument which was why she was late. Any way our little coffee break turns into a five hour date complete with dinner and long walks around Balboa Park (that's San Diego's central park and also the place we went on our first date). During this whole time Christine is telling me what an ******* the new boyfriend was, how she can't believe she's dating him, how I was a much better boyfriend, blah, blah, blah.

At one point I if she loves him and she says she cares for him but she doesn't know if she really loves him the way she always loved me. I take this to mean maybe she wants to get back together again and actually have a relationship without all the stupid little games and anticks. At the end we go to our sepporate homes and I tell her I'll call her tomorrow. The next day roles around and I give her a call and she tells me she can't see me any more and I bad for her and I'm interfering with her life, blah, blah, blah. WTF? She told me to call her and she said she loved me the day before?

So any way that was the last time I spoke with Christine until yesterday.

I was happily married for three years and doing well for myself. Then, out of the blue, an old friend of ours from childhood came to us with a sob story about not having a place to live. Now my wife and I grew up in the same neighborhood and knew this guy was a bit of a dirt ball, but decided that since we had a good past together that it would be ok to let him stay in one of the extra bedrooms for a few months until he got back on his feet.

Well, after a few months went by, and he still hadn't "gotten back on his feet", my wife told me that I had to kick him out of the house or she was going to leave me. Hmm... tough choice. He was gone instantly and every indication of him ever having been there was completly gone in a week.

Two weeks later I leave on a one week long Army deal. When I get home, the livingroom and dinning room furniture was gone. The dishes and pots and pans were gone. And my wife was gone. The only good thing that happened that day was a traveling salesman came to my door and told me he'd clean my carpets if I let him put on a demonstration. I turned around and saw the empty livingroom and figured what the heck, no furniture to move...

About a month passes and I get hit with divorce papers at about the same time as I get word that my wife had actualy left me to go live with the guy she told me to kick out. That one hurt. But time heals all wounds...

It had been several years (and several GFs) but I had been recently remarried and was walking hand in hand with my new wife in the local mall where my ex continuelly kept switching jobs from one store to another. We were going to Sears to look at stoves for our recently repaired duplex (it had burned down earlier in the year) and were going to walk past a furniture store where my ex used to work. My wife and I both laughed together that we could now actually use the store because we had heard through the grapevine that my ex no longer worked there. We were both laughing and holding hands when we both looked into the store as we past. Lo and behold, there she was. Sitting behind the counter looking directly at us. With both me and my wife knowing what we had just been laughing at, we both instantly quit laughing, looked away and kept walking.

It was an amazingly ackward situation for both me and my wife because of what we were talking about before it happened. But everytime I think about it, I keep wondering what it looked like to her. She must have been devestated. There she sat, back at her old job when she looks out her store window and sees her happily recently remarried ex-husband and his new wife walking, laughing and holding hands. They see her seeing them and they quit laughing and scoot away without saying anything.

When we were done looking at stoves about 20 minutes later, we had to walk past that same store we had seen her in before. We had decided to go talk to her but when we got there, she was gone and somebody else was in her place. I haven't seen her since....
