ooo-lala

who were the cheerleaders in those black and white things? They weren't wearing team colors, so I'm not sure if they were Jets or Eagles cheerleaders.

I need to "research" more of their pictures

damn

after winning 8 of 9 of the early games. I lose all 3 of the late games.

I still can't figure out why I picked the Jets. And the crappy 49'rs can't even beat the lowly Cardinals. And the Colts didn't cover the spread.

*sigh*.....

At least the Redskins had a by week, so I only have to suffer through an embarassing loss by one of my teams.

I was feeling so good before the season started. It looked like we finally had a good team, good coach, and good prospects. The Lions were picked by NFL.com visitors as the team most likely to have a breakthrough season. Sadly they are up to their old tricks.

Suck, suck, suck, suck.

yeah it's a mess in San Diego. The parking lot at Qual comm is being used as an evacuation area.

And it might be a tad insensitive to play a game there considering people have died.

And it gives people in Arizona a chance to watch a real NFL team in action

I'm curious how the tickets work. Do they sell a batch of entirely new tickets? I can't imagine the stadium will be that full. But maybe the people in Phoenix might want to see a real football game.

I don't believe they're the "real" deal.

I was going to mention that they haven't played anybody yet, but taking a look at their schedule I realized they don't play anyone this year. They play the AFC North, the NFC North, Houston, and Buffalo in addition to their conference schedule. They had two tough games against the Broncos and Packers so far which they barely squeeked by and still have away games at Minnesota and Denver (with Plummer probably healthy by then).

Then again, many Super Bowl winners of late have used their soft schedules to their advantage. Could it be KC winning it all?

You know... a really interesting game would be KC-Indy. That'd be fun to watch.

It's interesting, the Rams have emerged as one of the best teams in the NFC with their backup QB and third string RB leading the charge. Anyone who doubts Martz is an offensive mastermind only has to see the Rams now. Not only do they lose Faulk, but then his backup. They get some guy who no one even heard of and are ripping things up.

I wouldn't buy into Martz being the mastermind. Just gotta look at his only Superbowl appearance to see. He was so committed to the pass, that he threw the game away.

We already knew Bulger was a great QB from his previous stint as back-up, and from the Bronco's recent seasons, it's not unreasonable for an unknown back to fill in for a proven veteran. Davis, Gary, Anderson each carried the load for the Broncos in 3 consecutive years and each got 1000 yds rushing for the season.

Coincidense? Maybe.

Does one game ruin the genius of a coach?

Don Coryell never won a championship but there is no doubt he was an offensive genius. Martz may have messed up in 2001, but that was his 2nd year as a head coach. The guy is amazing with offensive formations and breaking down defenses.

Stints as backups don't prove jack. You can point to the Broncos RBs (which I believe is more a product of their great offensive line), but I can easily point to Rob Johnson, Scott Mitchell, and Kelly Holcomb as backups who looked amazing when they had to fill in for injured starters, but when they assumed the title of 'starter' just totally destructed.

One game cannot ruin his genius, but can point out the major flaws in his psyche.

The only reason I know Coryell's name is cause Martz-Vermiel have been compared to him.

I know of Bill Walsh, Tom Landry, and Don Shula for other more obvious reasons

And obviously, those other QBs you mentioned couldn't stack up to Bulger.

I've never been big on Martz. I just don't think he has the chops to win a superbowl.

They won the superbowl because of Vermeil.

And that is one reason I like KC so much. I just think he's a good coach. He is what made St. Louis really shine.

While I do like St. Louis better this year as they are less cocky. They were really pissing my off the last couple of years with their attitude that no one could beat them, they could only beat themselves. Turnovers just don't happen out of thin air. There is a defense on the other side of the ball that causes them. Even the best teams turn the ball over when facing good defenses.

hmm that tie breaker could come in handy in lombardi picks this week.

And for once, I am in the running to win a week. Even if Miami doesn't win (not too likely ), everyone else picked Miami to win, so it will come down to the tie breaker.

Looking for 33 points tomorrow night.

That's only because they've already failed and Bulger hasn't (at least yet). Back in the day, Rob Johnson and Scott Mitchell were thought to be future Pro-Bowlers. Hindsight is 20/20.

Funny they were saying the same stuff about George Seifert. They said he won his SB in 1990 because he was running Walsh's team and he really wasn't good enough to win one himself. Of course he proved 'em all wrong by guiding the Niners to a victory in 1996-97.

nope, never heard of him Actually, I know Coryell had Fouts as his QB, but that was before my time, so I never got to see it in action.

nope. Walsh's system which worked well with his personnel won Super Bowls. Of course he also needed a defense to pull it off as well.

Shula was a great coach cause he won games using different systems (unlike Landry and Knoll).

So by your logic, Warner soon will be seen as a bad QB as well.

Oh and while we're trying to praise coaches here, there is also something called having good quality players on your team that help immensely.

It's interesting to compare Vermeil's Rams to Vermeil's Chielfs. Both in their third year of his coaching, both with good offenses, both got off to great starts on relatively weak schedules. Both didn't fare very well in his 2nd year of coaching. Both have defenses that are sub par. Very interesting indeed!

They have no playmakers on either side of the ball, so I wasn't expecting big things. But I can't believe they've gone backwards, either .

The West Coast offense isn't working because they don't have talent at the skill positions. They need to dump Millen and get a front-office guy with experience who can develop talent. I wish they could somehow keep Mooch and scrap the west coast, but that won't happen.

New England have the best defense of the AFC. Tennessee are last in the league against the pass.

Ok, one of the best defenses. They're good enough against the pass to pick up 3 Int's yesterday.

That's a misleading stat based on a few early season shootouts. Their defense is tough.

Good news for Kansas City Chiefs fans: In the last six years of the NFL, only once has the last team to go undefeated not made it to the Super Bowl. The lone exception: The down-on-their-luck Vikings in 2000, who followed their massive choke-job against Atlanta in the NFC championship two years prior by getting smashed in the Meadowlands against the Giants.

Better still, of the five that made it to the big game, three went on to win. The downside: It hasn't happened recently. Denver was the league's last undefeated team during both years of its back-to-back title run ('97 & '98), and the Rams turned the trick the year of Kurt Warner's arrival ('99). However, the Rams were the last in '01 and yet choked in the big game against the Patriots (HAW HAW!) and the Raiders did the same thing last year against the Bucs (MWAHAHAHA!).

So if history repeats itself, the odds are the Arrowhead faithful will have a lot to cheer about the last week of January. Just don't get your hopes up if you're facing the red and pewter.
