Did Carlson make seem as if the Fox number he gave out was his home phone number? He pretended to give out his home phone number, and when someone does it for real everyone complains?

You could say that FOX news was correcting a misstake that Carlson made.

I'm not quite sure what you righties don't understand about that |
It is not quite unlisted, since he agreed to give out his number on TV, but gave out the FOX number instead, know that they would be flooded with call by angry people.
I would not have done the same, but Carlson is not in the clear etheir.

one upsmanship isnt always called for. but since he shouldn't have given out the # to fox's place. assuming that the other side will simply respond in kind to an unprovoked attack isnt going to get you far.

why are we assuming the home # is so much worse than inviting the inundation of the business? assuming fox really did get swamped w/ ppl wanting the guy. then they obviously lost productivity and business and money! important calls weren't going through, all sorts of things. I assume on the flipside he merely unplugged his phone and used his cell. and that most of the calls couldn't even get through, then u signup for a new #.

Exactly.
Therefore, we should (in the interests of being fair and balanced) find Bill's # and list it.
