Syria Plans Complaint About Israel Attack
BASSEM MROUE
Associated Press
EIN SAHEB, Syria - Arab leaders warned that a "circle of violence" could encompass the region Sunday after Israeli warplanes attacked deep inside Syria for the first time in decades. Syria said it would complain to the United Nations.
A member of Syria's parliament said a military response from Syria was unlikely. Syria will have to deal rationally with the attack on what Israel claimed was a training camp of the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad, said the lawmaker, George Jabbour.
"The military option has conditions, among them that it be beneficial" to Syria, he said. Military responses have not always proved to be of benefit to Syria, he said.
Israel has military might, and Syria has a strong legal position, said Jabbour.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry said it would make an "urgent complaint" to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan and the Security Council to "clarify (Syria's) position."

How can you have a "Strong legal position" when you are guilty of harbouring terrorist training camps? Isn't that just a little illegal under international law? |
If they claim that they donīt harbor terrorists and Israel cannot present a clear proof, that the Camp belonged to IJ (or another Terrorist organization) I think, they may indeed have a strong legal Position.
Of course it would be of no use. Even if Syria is successful in convincing the UN Security Council, that a Resolution against Israel is necessary, the Resolution will fail because of a Veto from the USA (as usual)
