Well, I've been looking on ebay for a compiler [EDIT OUT LINK] but i'm not sure about this..... if its the right one etc?
I've also been looking over the old manual and doing some rough notes on the good and bad points - although i'm aware i'll have to wait for nearer complete versions of the code/game that will ship form here before i can get down any real details for use in the new game manual.

EDIT: thought i'd take out the link

Delivered on a cdr and with no lincence included this sounds like piracy to me and if that is the case you would be just as well off downloading it from kazaa or something similar.
Other than that, yes its the right program and just what you would need to compile the source.

The original set was 6 CDs but C++ and Visual Basic are on the first one. Help files however are in the last two CDs so not sure if that is what you want. In the other hand 8 pounds is a very tempting price

I have slowed down of late due to having to catch up with all the work that I pushed back in order to get the thing working in the first place. My current project is to reimplement any SLIC functions that anyone wants, which should at the same time teach me a lot about the general structure of the code and databases.

If it is written in a cd-r then it is defenetely a pirate copy. Unless the guy don't know the difference between cd-r and pressed CD. And now that I'm thinking it 8 pounds would be the right prise for a pirate copy

panag,

what do you call piracy?

Copying a louse product, which isn't worth 5 cents?

The reason why I am saying so, I am nowadays fairly 'pissed off' with the companies. The stuff they produce (at least for me) is so lousy, that I sometimes think, they don't deserve better.

Before you think I use pirated copies: All the games I have a proper games. Sometimes I must admit, I might have used a backup-copy to playtest and decide shall I spend the money or not. If I dodn't like it, I removed it (including the copy).

I, for a while, used demos to test, BUT most of the time the demos are fantastic, but the program is to be flushed down. This for me, is far worst, than playtesting a pirated real game for deciding to buy. If you can't trust the publisher, you have to take other ways. And this (at least for certain publishers) seems to get the standard. If you are foolish enough to buy the game right away, you are just being missused as a playtester on a non-working product, waiting for new patches to come out (which might take ages????????????)

Nowadays I even do it far more different, I just wait till I can buy the game for 5-10€ in a discount shop or similar.

Two advantages:
1.) You have the original
2.) If it is still a fail, at least not expensive

panag - good man(AI program )

And yes Gilg - the fact that alot of stuff is naf these days, coupled with the fact that playable demos are now the exception to the rule, all cant help but encourage the growth of piracy. Still it makes sense to me to pay for the things i like and want to see more of.

Well - i guess a relative quiet time is a good thing over here, it means people are spending what time they can on looking at the code
This is a bar/cafe right? - make mine an earl grey tea with a dash of milk barkeep, its too early for beer!

Hi Panag,

In other areas, if the product isn't great somebody else makes a clone and is allowed to sell it legally (i.e. clothes, shoes, etc........), but in computing: The publisher is allowed to rip the customer off

Doesn't sound logical............

And I didn't want to make a justifcation for it, just an explanation.

I think in certain areas, if prices like this would be charged for a product which is rubbish, they would be sued for harrasment...........

hi ,

as long as no one breaks your arm to buy it , who forces you to buy it , ...... if one does not like a product , no one forces one to buy it , ......

if the publisher makes a low quality type of program , you can bet that the whole world shall know about it fast , therefore less people shall buy it and the publisher is then faced with the facts , ......

then he can either rework the program , make a patch , or withdraw it , etc , .......

have a nice day

But all what you hear from those guys:

The bloody pirating guys are breaking our sales. If there weren't so many people copying, we would sell better.

But as you already said:
quote:

then he can either rework the program , make a patch , or withdraw it , etc , .......

The only problem is, they always blame it on others............

And as big MC said:

It is cheaper to buy a film than a game.......that doesn't sound right.

But coming back to the point about selling:

In the old days, companies brought out demos, to try. Nowadays they still bring out demos, but most of the time they are twice better than the later game............

(just needed to be said.....grrrrrrrrrrr)

I remember I downloaded couple of demos (ok a 2-3 years ago), which I started to play. Graphics were great, gameplay was great, but then the game itself was only half as good. As I read afterwards, they spend roughly the same time on the Demo as on the game........

Nowadays I just wait till the prise drops to like 5-10€ and having read about it in forums and similar. Far cheaper and easier and less hart attacks. It also fits better for my old ancient PC

I think tomb rider 3 and four demos were allegedly based on levels when you played the full game you found out the had add about 60% to the level and played about with the other 40%

Always those Americans. They always think they know better

They never know the difference between Celsius and Kelvin........but they still try to tell us how to count...............

Our neighbours know at least how to count and spell properly

(kust me playing the role of an arrogant Europeans

But by the way you know the difference Celsuis/Kelvin ?)

But back a bit onto the topic:
