Worth looking into. I was reading some really old posts a few months back from before i was here, about how cannon making wasnt required before infantrymen, which it obviously should be, because the cannon (or whatever it was called) came first.

Sorry, missed this. I actually posted it twice, the original is still available in the Apolyton/Community Archive. At the time I posted it in part to highlight the glaring lack of a Civ General forum, but then reposted it in the right place when Markos created one.
The HTML is a bit screwed up in that post, so I made a neater version and put it offsite in case of archive archiving. It's here. On the plus side, the thread has a few responses.

As far as the tech tree goes, I've always been a big fan of the tech tree Harlan, Charles (Diodorus Sicilus) and Wes made for the MedMod. The more one knows about history, the more one will appreciate the beauty of that tree
The one downside might be that it feels a bit too heavy on the modern ages to me (a problem more Civ tech trees have, I feel the same way about e.g. Civ3): it has more advances for the period 1800-1960 than for the period 4000 BC-500 CE. Should we want to use it, we might want to consider either cutting some (post-)Industrial Age techs, or fleshing out the Ancient/Classical Age with some Cradle techs.
Of course, the downside of the MedMod tree is that it's considerably different from the standard tree (a bit larger too), and it would probably force you to add at least some of the MedMod (or other new) units/buildings/wonders/etc as well. I'm not sure if everyone would like a) the idea of radically altering the original game and b) the MedMod tree.

Incidentally, Locutus, what was that Simon Newcombe quote I had in my sig? |

Looking at the MedMod tree now i would prefer to keep the original one, except for any minor alterations. Im just thinking about MP and the Medmod/Cradle trees would be too complex.

Been playing ctp2 on and off last 2 years. The mods have given the game new life-ahead of many of the new strategy civ type games -repairing the code and updating would put it over the top.Hope you can change the diplomacy responses-I mean the words in english -gamedatda-I think this is hard code?
