So...

I agreed with getting Saddam, but I opposed the administration because they led a campaign of lies and misinformation. And on top of that, I think a lot of corporations and other shady people close to the admin are war profiteering, which was part of the motive for going to war.

I'm all for getting evil dictators and spreading Democracy. But while the right propagates that America is a liberator, we shake hands with the Stalinist Chinese.

And it's not like we're going after OTHER dictators. The only reason we are in Iraq is oil. Sorry, but that's the truth. There are dozens of other dictators and oppressive governments out there. But the US only goes after the one that has enormous economic incentives.

I just want people to be honest and to not live in denial. If you want to liberate the world, fine... I'll support that. We'd have to militarize the country and go to war with the rest of the world that isn't free... but hey, at least we'd be consistent and honest.

Getting Saddam for the reasons the Bush admin pushed was dishonest and hypocritical. That's MY point.

The whole "12 years of sanctions" argument is just tiresome. Getting Saddam was a noble cause, but it wasn't worth the hundreds of billions and cost in human lives that this will end up costing. Saddam could have been gotten for a lot less money and a lot less lives by slowly choking him... and then going in WITH THE SUPPORT OF the rest of our allies.

The fact that this Bush couldn't muster the support that his father did is a testament to his failure as a president and why he needs to go. I am not one of these peaceniks that was against the war at all costs. I'm a very pragmatic individual and I believe that we should not have gone in until the rest of the world says so.

Do I believe America has generally good motives? Sure. But so does the rest of the free-world. And again, it's a testament to Bush's FAILURE as a president that he couldn't get the rest of the free world to help us.

Coalition of the willing? Pffft... yeah I'm glad we had Nazi collaborators like Bulgaria, Lithuania and Latvia... or other oppressive countries like Uzbekistan helping us. This was a coalition of the bribed, the intimidated, and the sucking up... or in Britain's case... a coalition of the puppets.

Anyways, enough of this. I'm going to watch football.

Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye

He'll never love you, the way that I love you
'Cause if he did, no no, he wouldn't make you cry
He might be thrillin' baby but a-my love (my love, my love)
So dog-gone willin'
So kiss him (I wanna see you kiss him. Wanna see you kiss him)
Go on and kiss him goodbye, now

Na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye

Listen to me now

He's never near you to comfort and cheer you
When all those sad tears are fallin' baby from your eyes
He might be thrillin' baby but a-my love (my love, my love)
So dog-gone willin'
So kiss him (I wanna see you kiss him. I wanna see you kiss him)
Go on and kiss him goodbye, na-na na-na-na na na

Na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye

[fade in]
Hey hey-ey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye
[repeat many times and fade out]

Good, short, non-triumphant speech by Bush.

I'm also wondering why Saddam didn't take his own life when it was clear to him he was detected and would be dug out of his hiding hole. He was after all caught with to rifles and a pistol by his side according to most reports.

Some of the guys there at the capture said he was very disoriented when they lifted the styrofoam lid off of his hidey-hole. Which is very typical for the position he was in. Its also possible he was asleep, and they woke him up.

As stupid as that sounds when you are on the move as much as he was you sleep when you get the chance to and its amazing the kind of positions and places you can get a good sleep. He was tired, he was lying down in the dark pit. Who knows.

Got spare money?

good news on the capture

did I read that a relative turned him in? Must've been one who didn't get a lot of cash from him, what was that reward, 20 mil?

I'm glad he's alive, there will be no "glorious" ending to his life, no blaze of killin' infidel glory. Just a sad sack cowering in a hole.

And I'm sure the average Iraqi couldn't care less about the US credibility either. Ths US should accept the thanks, and shut up while the Iraqis deal with their past despot as they please.

The capture of Saddam is a grzat opportunity for Iraqis to clean their old demons. Let's not steal it for something as unimportant as the already dead "US credibility"

ur venting an awful lot of disgust over something that as all reports indicate the US will do what you want.

I hope we have enough brains to turn Saddam over to the Iraqis for trial. Theywould dispense justice, plain & quick. Plus, an Iraqi trial would deprive Saddam of any "evil-US/evil-Israel" defense.

Cool!! Put him away forever, maybe he can feel what it's like to live without hope like so many of his innocent victims. This is a celebration day for all the people tortured and killed and thier families.

Everyone who was electrocuted, suffocated, burned with acid, beaten, raped, and mutilated can know that Saddam will never menace anyone again.

Of course, this does mean that the Iraqi resistance will become even more fundie and international terrorist in nature, the secular nationalists probably feel completely demoralized after this victory.

Plus is, I doubt we'll see anymore big attacks by Fedayeen Saddam types anymore.
