If I have Fission in time I’ll sure do that but the three AIs ahead of me are climbing the tech tree so fast I’m not sure that will be an option. I still have hope that I can trade some techs with Osman before he blows by me and then we’ll see. He’ll go for Communism no doubt and perhaps I’ll get a second round of trade with him if I go for Steam instead. By then the Inca should have caught up and I may be able to do some trading with them. I’m not sure what’s up with the Celts. They had some nasty alliances against them but I’m still surprised at how far behind they are. All the better for me though as they will probably catch up at some point and trade some techs one for one.

Keep us posted Vmxa1. I’m interested in how your early wars are going to go. I suspect that you’ve chosen a really difficult map but if you can fight off Korea then it may work out. If you find that an early war isn’t profitable then it’s possible that a Pangaea start could work with 80% water so that you would have a chance to control the bottlenecks and get a decent Rex but still be able to invade without ships later in the game. In general, I’ve found that if you can get a Curragh or two out early they can be really effective in locating rivals and trading techs even if you’re not Seafaring although it may be too late for that at the stage of the game you’re in. Good luck and happy belated birthday

I'm having trouble attaching an image. I saved a bitmap at about 2.5Mb and tried using the upload service which resulted in a "Page cannot be found message." Tried with a jpg and a zip with no success either. Is it the dialup I'm using perhaps?

Regular attach isn't working well either. Hmm...

Much better; thanks Vmxa1.
I thought this might be helpful as a comparison. The GL yields some nice tech gains but I doubt that I could have managed a long drawn out war as successfully as Vmxa1 while building it and as a result my territory is smaller. I also have had no MGL's and so no Heroic epic or armies. My war with the Inca is 1 turn old and I'm about to take Ica which is their only city on my landmass. That part went well but I was later surprised that a forest landing (on the pink Incan landmass) of about 12 Swiss Mercenaries and 4 medieval infantry was completely wiped out in one turn. I would have done better to fend off Incan assaults, get a leader/army/epic, and then sue for peace until a much bigger landing party could be assembled from the horsemen I’m upgrading to knights at 120 gold each.

Right now that is 40%.

"The setting: Beta 1.15, SID, Standard map, wet, warm, old, sedentary barbs, default rules, lowest aggression, Netherlands facing Inca, Maya, Ottomans, Chinese, Sumerians, and Celts. This is one less opponent than usual." The save game from 720AD is on page four of this thread. Civ is an amazingly well balanced game as a look at our two 450AD games shows. As a Republic it's difficult to increase my army with 1/2 the cities you have and still keep up in research. That makes my empire somewhat weak. You are supporting a larger army but your units are even more outdated than mine. If we get hit with stacks of infantry we're going to be in trouble unless we can buy our way out. There are tradeoffs whatever you choose to do.
I am impressed by what you have been able to accomplish with your militaristic strat and so I intend to increase my military component by creating a killing zone on the resource rich Incan island and take his attacks until I deplete him but the Ai's all have huge numbers of troops and I don't have a very good feel yet for the numbers of troops I'll need. I'm with Paddy and hope you keep on posting.
Hey Jimmytrick...where's that DAR? I want to hear more about your tech stealing and whether you've found a way to achieve tech parity in the Industrial.
How's the Royal Navy doing Paddy?
cheers
