Republicans think this joke is funny? It's the same as playing hide and seek with a little kid and going "Hmm, where's Johnny?" The little kid thinks this is hilarious, but this is the best that Bush can do?

Republicans really need to work on their sense of humour.

My favourite joke of the moment -

What's the difference between a rooster and a lawyer?

The rooster clucks defiance.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I think I've identified the elements of the chain reaction here.

-Bush tells a sh!tty joke
-Lefts notice how rude it was to all those who died in Iraq
-Rights' "Bush is a gift from God, who is Reagan, BTW" instinct kicks in. Some of them are able to control it and come up with reasonable excuses for the joke, but some of them just call the left whiners.

This follows the same pattern of most things that Bush does.
-Bush f&cks up
-Lefts notice how badly he f&cked up
-Rights' "Bush is a gift from God, who is Reagan, BTW" instinct kicks in. Some of them are able to control it and come up with a reasonable excuse, but some just call the lefts whiners.

All of this could be stopped if Bush could just stop f&cking up.

So the WMD issue somehoe ISN'T linked to the Iraq war in which our soldiers died? This is truly a bizarre bit of rationale.

Yeah, a response of "I don't care" is really being "pwned". Your standards for argument might be even lower than his.

And it looks like this IS becoming an issue in the news. The papers are running the story and it's looking to become yet another embarrassment for Bush. For supposedly such a disciplined campaigner, this gaffe seems inexcusable. Didn't anyone there think that this would become an issue, considering the staunch opposition many had to the war? You have to admit this was a bad move by the administration, opening up one of their most vulnerable routes of attack.

And that's the real problem. If a guy tells a lame joke then he shouldn't be a leader.

Now compare Bush's joke to Blair.

Blair is in parliament on a routine day and says in a authoritative voice something like:
"We have explained our position clearly."
Spectator heckles him
In split second, Blair responds with a self-depreciating smile "Apparently not well enough."

Now I'm no fan of Blair, but I had to give him the thumbs up on that one. Ya got like a guy who is fast on his feet and able to laugh at himself.

No one who has dismissed Bush's arrogant statement as a non-issue within this thread has successfully refuted my earlier post of why this IS an issue.

I suggest you read that post or read this article, written by a Canadian, which develops my position in greater detail.

http://www.canoe.ca/Columnists/margolis_mar14.html

The summary to the article says it all :

President Bush has stuck his head into a hornet's nest. The U.S. will bleed men, money and reputation for a long time before it figures out how to get out of the first colonial misadventure of the 21st century.

Bush feels he has the election locked up because he is a wartime president. He thinks he can joke about WMDs and all you will do is give a sycophantic laugh. He's taken care of his personal agenda and now he plans to distract you from the war's negative effects by giving you red herrings:

Well, since you said "please"...

quote:
I think it is an arrogant statement because Bush has never given us concrete proof that WMD existed in Iraq. He took for granted the British brief that stated WMD were in Iraq , which has since been discredited, along with vague CIA intelligence reports on Iraq, and ran with the Iraqi War before fully checking the situation out. Why? Because he had a personal agenda with Iraq that he needed to address. As someone pointed out earlier, Saddam tried to kill his father. And, no wartime president has ever failed to get reelected. The arrogant statement this morning says to the world, "I got away with my private war at your expense, and there is nothing you can do about it".
