You may have to register, though I didn't think they had extended the new voting rules beyond DII/Zelda and Half-Life/Halo.

You're calling me the infidel?! DOOM is one of the classic games of the PC, and a seminal one. This started the FPS as we know it, was a fantastic game that wowed everyone.

And remind me, what did Mario 3 do again?

Yeehaw, Doom is going into the lead as I vote for it. Doom, there's no game I have had installed and played for a longer period of time! I still go down for 20-minute sessions sometimes.

Mario, what a grossly overrated game. I've always hated those console-style games where one stupid animated character goes around collecting stuff, and if he dies, you get reset to the last checkpoint - at best.

The tension. The shock of suddenly coming under attack, and the thrill of getting the situation back under control and blowing you attacker away. The thrill of the hunt -- as both hunter and hunted. The pressure you come under as you realize you're down to your last rounds, and you can't find reloads, let alone the exit. The wonder of discovery, first with the original maps, then with fan-made maps with new settings, graphics, and sounds.

I'd go for Mario. If I could be bother registering to vote.

I never ran out of ammo in Doom, even on the hardest setting. Whereas losing the Tanooki suit was pain itself.

You mean next-to-hardest setting, right?

The auto-respawn on Nightmare was a bit much, IMO.

Not sure but the nightmare setting may not have been in the original doom... it was in doom 2 and probably in ultimate doom. I figured it would be impossible to play it through with that setting...

Yeah, seconding PH, it was there. Not much fun though at any rate, IMO - Ultra-Violence was fun, while monster respawning just ruined the feeling for me.
