Latest from F-P:
quote: Gentlemen of Apolyton and Batrachos:
I am writing to you unofficially (for now) in an attempt to garner your support for an official complaint I wish to submit to the administrators about the speed of play of both CDG and GWT, though by far, GWT is the more problematic party.
We are currently some 20-odd turns behind, and with the removal of a team in the other game, that is going to INCREASE, rather than decrease. It is conceivable that the other game could finish MONTHS ahead of us, and then the finals might well be put into doubt.
While I cannot guess at your own teams, I know my own team's participation and membership is suffering greatly due to the exceedingly slow - far behind once very five days - pace of play.
I would like to officially request SOME form of action - not just a warning - but an action, a proposal, some immediate measure be taken to increase the speed of this game, or I fear it may never be completed - nevermind the finals!
Please let me know as soon as possible regarding your feelings on this matter.

[ 18:34:35 ] [ @Octavian_X ] Hello Minister Louis!
[ 18:35:02 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] Hi!
[ 18:35:05 ] [ Louis_XXIV ]
[ 18:35:28 ] [ @Octavian_X ] I'm sorry for showing up late, but that's the trouble with dial up in a one phone line house.
[ 18:35:43 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] I understand
[ 18:36:10 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] What do you think we should talk about?
[ 18:36:36 ] [ @Octavian_X ] Let's see... Well, is there anything particular on your mind?
[ 18:37:01 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] Nothing particularly pressing. I would like to reach some kind of tech agreement
[ 18:37:46 ] [ @Octavian_X ] We could try to hammer something out.
[ 18:37:48 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] I don't think we've even had any kind of discussion since the Republic trade
[ 18:38:10 ] [ @Octavian_X ] That's true.
[ 18:38:18 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] Let me just start off by saying that we have been researching Map Making for a while
[ 18:39:18 ] [ @Octavian_X ] IIRC, we're working on currency at the moment.
[ 18:39:44 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] Its good to here we're not researching the same thing
[ 18:39:52 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] Do you have any interest in aquiring MM?
[ 18:40:58 ] [ @Octavian_X ] There's some interest floating around the team, but it isn't much since our only use for galleys would be a continental crossing (and we haven't see a good spot for that, either)
[ 18:41:24 ] [ @Octavian_X ] meaning, from our continent to the one with the other two teams.
[ 18:41:45 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] I'm going to try a Curragh cross soon (on the Eastern side) and see if my seafaring trait gives us any luck
[ 18:42:43 ] [ @Octavian_X ] Good luck with that. Since we're not seafaring, it seems like any suicide mission at this point would be wasteful to us.
[ 18:43:39 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] Makes sense. One technology I would be interested in aquiring that you seem to have would be Mathmatics

[ 18:45:17 ] [ @Octavian_X ] One second, if you please. I'm booting up our current save...
[ 18:45:33 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] k
[ 18:48:17 ] [ @Octavian_X ] As I mentioned earlier, we're researching currency - we already have math.
[ 18:48:25 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] That
[ 18:48:28 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] 's what I figured
[ 18:49:04 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] I'm not sure if I can work anything out tonight, but I figure I'd mention it, so you can see if you'd get any response.
[ 18:49:05 ] [ @Octavian_X ] Whoops - my mistake. I misread that last statement...
[ 18:49:30 ] [ @Octavian_X ] So, yes, it's possible that a deal could be worked out.
[ 18:50:12 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] That's good to hear.
[ 18:50:21 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] I'm not sure what I could offer at this time.
[ 18:50:56 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] I'm afraid I can't remember the exact techs CDG has, aside from IW and the Republic pre-reqs.
[ 18:51:31 ] [ @Octavian_X ] That's why I loaded our save - I didn't remember ours either.
[ 18:51:58 ] [ @Octavian_X ] Well, how far away from MM are you guys? Maybe we could arrange to trade that, or whatever the next tech you reasearch is.

[ 19:01:18 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] While I'm not going to ask you where you plan to build...
[ 19:02:14 ] [ @OctavianX ] Well, is it safe to guess that you'll continue to use the grid-like pattern you have with your core?
[ 19:02:25 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] Pretty much, I would like to know if Apolyton would have any objections to CDG building a city on the goldhill (we are currently fortified there)
[ 19:03:04 ] [ @OctavianX ] On the river near Sven's Fjord?
[ 19:03:10 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] yep
[ 19:03:36 ] [ @OctavianX ] I don't think we'll have a problem, then. It seems like it's too far away from our palace to of use atm.
[ 19:03:59 ] [ @OctavianX ] *to be of use
[ 19:05:00 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] OK, that's good. I don't think CDG will be building anywhere that will cut off any expansion Apolyton wishes to do
[ 19:05:22 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] We'll just gradually expand outward like we've been doing
[ 19:06:08 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] *cough*unlike PAL*cough*
[ 19:06:13 ] [ @OctavianX ] That can all be coordinated in the long run.
[ 19:06:43 ] [ @OctavianX ] Speaking of the north, how's the relation between PAL and CDG?
[ 19:07:36 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] It seems difficult to tell. At one point, we were both racing towards the ivory..
[ 19:08:21 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] Then it seemed like we would go to war over it. But, we decided we would give them the city, and trade for the ivory at a fairly favorable deal
[ 19:09:21 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] Although I would have preferred getting the ivory myself, I think we now have a friendly relation, which will pay off many times over in the long run.
[ 19:09:22 ] [ @OctavianX ] That's good news. We were concerned at first when Pumpkinland popped up.
[ 19:10:16 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] By the time the city popped up, things had been settled.
[ 19:10:48 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] How have you been doing with PAL
[ 19:10:48 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] ?
[ 19:11:51 ] [ @OctavianX ] Mediocre. Things could be better, and they could be worse.
[ 19:12:01 ] [ @OctavianX ] We were also very concerned about the direction of PAL
[ 19:12:07 ] [ @OctavianX ] 's settlement.
[ 19:12:12 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] They seem to be growing very fast
[ 19:12:43 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] They have promised that they wouldn't build any further south, but, I don't think that will change things much
[ 19:14:12 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] I'll keep you guys updated if anything changes with them.
[ 19:14:22 ] [ @OctavianX ] Thanks - we'll do the same.
[ 19:14:41 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] I personally trust Apolyton more
[ 19:15:55 ] [ @OctavianX ] The feeling's mutual - I'm not entirely sure they can be trusted given that they haven't participated in a democracy game before..
[ 19:16:32 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] I'm sorry, it looks like I'll have to go. If I can work out some kind of trade agreemenent with my team and send it to you.
[ 19:16:45 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] Is there any way I can get a copy of this chat?
[ 19:16:48 ] [ @OctavianX ] Thanks. I'll keep an eye on my inbox.
[ 19:16:51 ] [ @OctavianX ] I can send you one.
[ 19:17:02 ] [ Louis_XXIV ] Thanks
[ 19:17:08 ] [ @OctavianX ] Thanks for your time.

To PAL just in case.
quote:
Hello,
I am MrWhereItsAt, Consul of Apolytonia (special hi to FP, if it is you getting this! ). 'Scuse me if you've got the following message already - our Ambassador conmcb25 would normally handle this, but it's not clear whether he had time to, and he's off to Italy for the time being. In his absence you can email me (granvisimo@student.vuw.ac.nz) and another Consul Togas (tom_ogas@yahoo.com) with anything we need to talk about.
When we were playing our last turn we noticed that one of your warriors, Cobra, was stationed on the road heading west from our city Naked Aphrodite. This caused a problem, as it meant we couldn't get some units back for upgrading. Please move off the road this turn and keep off them until we can get the war started so things aren't delayed too much in this way. We really need free movement to get ready in time. If you'd like to move through a road or something of ours, please just let us know in advance and we can ensure there are no clashes.
Cheers guys,
MrWhereItsAt

Sent to PAL just as the turn 975BC is sent:
quote:
Hi gu- , er, better use what conmcb25 does...
To our esteemed colleages at the ladder
just thought you could use this know-how, if you didn't already know.
W-SW of your two Horsemen and Archer Chisel, Hammer and, er, Playerxxcc, is a fortified barb Horseman on a hill. There is also a camp SE SE SE of those same troops (same direction as our warrior Grog is from those units, just two tiles further on). Hope this helps you with your farming tasks.
We can also see that our civs are now connected via road, allowing luxury and strat resource trading! We currently don't have any spare resources, but for when we both do, we should probably decide how to trade them, eg whether to just offer them when we've got them, as with techs, or whether one or the other of us has a particular need of an extra lux at a certain time, or whatever.
Oh yeah, and how many turns from the Pyramids are you?
Cheers,
MrWhereItsAt

quote: Friendly greetings to the MoI and to the people of Apolyton!
The road between our nations is now complete! PAL anticipates having
our second source of silks available for trade to Apolyton at the
beginning of turn 86 (875 B.C.) However, the pesky Elucidians have poached
one tile of the route, which will prove problematic once war starts. We
can easily send silks until hostilities begin, and again restore them
once the route is reestablished. We ask that APO seek to return the
favor quickly as well by acquiring additional wines to trade as soon as
possible.
We fully plan to build the Great Lighthouse using our GA once the
Pyramids complete. While we have struggled to understand Apolyton's
enchantment with the SoZ, it makes a little more sense to us now in light of
medeival attack idea. We still hope however that the shield cost will
not outweigh the unit payoff, and that we will not find the ancient
cavalry only coming into use too late. PAL has been discussing the
Knights and MI instead of Cavalry and it has indeed been a red hot and highly
active discussion, that we are still examining.
PAL is firmly set on Pyramids. We simply feel it is too risky to give
it to the other continent. Such a plan will backfire against us if
they are allied. We believe it is far safer to keep the pyramids under
the control of our alliance and use it for our mutual benefit in
outexpanding and outpreparing for our mutual enemies.
We can sympathise with Apolyton's laments about lands that could be
richer and wanting to expand faster. PAL has discussed sending settlers
and workers to help once the Pyramids are in place. I would imagine
we'll be using the Pyramids to assist Apolyton in that way at least to
some degree. Everyone at PAL understands the value of PAL of capturing
(certainly not razing) and then transferring CDG's cities to Apolyton.
Everyone at PAL sees the value of the trade road that PAL built for our
nations. We are cheering for the slave we sent to help APO have iron
connected soon. And naturally, we are dedicated to using the Pyramids
to get all of the land on this continent working for the alliance as
soon as possible. The majority of discussion at PAL has been centering
less on if, and more on how many settlers and workers PAL will send.
Recent trends in Apolyton's border proposals have not been helping though.
Moving comments have been surfacing that in light of all the sup
port and aid that PAL is already responsible for, engaged in, and
planning to provide, the proposals for ceding extensive additional border
lands begin to raise doubts as to how much those border proposals are
designed for the best interests of the alliance when compared to how much
they benefit Apolyton especially.
We have noted Apolyton's turn 86 anarchy proposal, and should be able
to cooperate easily. The current poll at PAL is finishing, and I can
assure you that if we do not preceed Apolyton on turn 86, we will
immediately follow Apolyton at the start of turn 87. We are however much more
interested in setting a turn for beginning our combined offensive. We
recognize that Apolyton probably wishes to delay attacking until
emerging into republic because of hoplites and golden age issues. We remind
though that if CDG fails to follow into anarchy, this anarchy period
may actually work to their advantage by giving them several more turns of
production while we both have no production. Also, PAL's attack and
golden age are not predicated on our UU (rather the GA is based on the
Pyramids finishing once we enter republic), so we are eager not to allow
CDG too much of a production advantage. We will however need some time
(4-5 turns) to get the units from our last turn of despotism to
the battlefront. Nevertheless, we are already in the process of
assembling and positioning troops to be ready for any unexpected golden
opportunities. Simply put, we wish to pinpoint (1) the soonest date and
(2) the most agreeable date that Apolyton and PAL could launch the
offensive campaign on.
If CDG follows our nations into anarchy, that will indeed present an
extremely ideal scenario for an early attack. CDG would be unable to
produce reinforcements, research masonry, build walls, or rush units under
such government. We strongly believe that our nations should not
overlook such a golden opportunity if it arises earlier than we may
otherwise have planned our attack for.
Also per the discussion of PAL settlers building cities for Apolyton,
we point out that with the pyramids, we will be able to grow cities
faster than Apolyton might be able to. For example even an average city
that PAL plants for APO could reach size 2 in 15 turns rather than 20,
and size 3 in 20 rather than 30 because of the pyramids. The sacrifice
is of course production, since cities we build in your lands would
experience poor production under our control. You may wish to discuss how
much or how little or under what conditions you would like us to develop
a city before passing it on. Naturally, we leave this idea to
Apolyton's own discretion, but simply point out its availability if desired.
We are also eager about the friendship of our nations continuing to the
next round. We hope that the embassy will assist in creating stability
and other advantages for our alliance. We also hope that we will
continue to communicate more in coordinating all manner of actions between
our nations.

I just sent this to CDG:
quote:
Esteemed citizens of the Creative Design Group,
hello, I'm MrWhereItsAt, one of the Triumvirate of Consuls responsible for the management of Apolyton. First off I apologise that our foreign affairs have been so scrappy - our Ambassador has continued to have difficulties with his computer and activity, and as a Consul the job falls to me (and the other two) to follow through.
Thanks for your offer to trade MapMaking - we are certainly interested in trading for this, but in order to get as much out of things as possible, we'd like a few more turns to get another Curragh or two ready for upgrading before trading for MapMaking, rather than having to construct a Galley from scratch. I will certainly keep you posted on this.
Also, we are getting towards hooking up a second set of wines that would be available for exchange (perhaps with your spare furs). If you have been holding off on revolting to a Republic because of happiness worries, we are certainly open to negotiations for the wines we will be connecting up. A road connection would be needed for this trade (or two harbours, I suppose, but a road could be easiest depending on your worker circumstances - and ours), so if you are interested please let us know, and we can, I am sure help each other into a far more productive government.
From your friendly neighbourhood Apolyton.

Received from PAL.
quote:
Guys - that turnchat we've been asking about for a few turns is becoming a lot more important.
We'd really like to have it before we play the turn tomorrow night; we need to settle things like the war date for a solid, fixed-specific number. We also *may* have discovered a sea channel across, but we need to cross-reference any info you have on the subject as well.
Been pokin' atcha about this for a few turns. Now we're a-shakin!
|
I have emailed them back a hurried response:
quote:
Here's a hastily written replay to get things moving here.
OK - a chat can be done, but the crucial things are 1. timing it with
hopefully a little warning; and 2. where this will happen. Our
Consuls at the moment are OctavianX - whose whereabouts I cannot
attest to right now, although if I specifically contacted him I
daresay he would make himself available. He is located somewhere in
the US timezones; Togas, who is also in the US, and busy IRL until
early evening Nth American time; and myself, and I am situated in New
Zealand, which is GMT+13 right now.
I imagine most of PAL is located in Nth America as well, and as a
postgrad student my times may be a little more flexible than most
peoples', so please give us some availablility times that could work.
My normal state of affairs means I can do effectively from the time
this email is sent (around 0400GMT) until about 1400GMT. Outside of
those hours will not be so easy except on the weekends (but then I
guess we're looking at earlier than then anyway).
I will contact the other Consuls and Domestic Minister for their
times.
As for the second issue - the place - I know that there have in the
past been discussions at some GameSpy chat or whatever, but I have
had difficulties in the past getting onto that. I have mIRC working
though, and can chat using the Apolyton.net server or probably
anywhere else like DALnet, EFNet etc.
Please reply when you can on your take on when and where so we can
try to get this set up.
Cheers,
MrWhereItsAt

I just sent this to PAL in response to their letter.
quote:
Eeeak. We need better foreign relations people.
Where to start? Well, as this is informal response from the Ministry of Interior, let’s just follow your letter that was sent with the last save.
1) Although we agreed to join a road at the meeting mountain area, to the best of our knowledge there was never a time frame sent regarding this. Or if there was, no correspondence within my own team made it to me to arrange for the work to happen in such a time. I apologize about the lack of communication in regards to this if in fact it is something our team has done.
2) We understand that you are anxious to gain luxuries (although I must say that prior to now, I never realized just how anxious). With this difficulty level, who isn’t? But as your scout will notice, although that one extra wine is within our capitols cultural radius, it is not an actual working tile. It is outside all of our cities working zones. It has, therefore, been given a low priority until quite recently, as we were working towards building our road towards the iron. Please note that currently Bonehed as well as 2 other workers are on their way to that location to begin the road building process for you. However, please note the circumstances under 1 above. Without a precise timeline to work towards, why would we rush an unproductive tile? Additionally, with CDG between us, what makes you think that the war would not interrupt the trade? I was always under the impression that the trading of our luxuries would be AFTER the war, not before. We need better communication.
3) The issues with Bonehed are completely our fault. I asked about 20 turns ago for our FAM to contact you about our change in plans, and apparently it never happened. Our Consuls decided to reroute the last 3 settlers I have produced from locations I wanted to new city cites. City cites which are closer to CDG so that the war would go easier on our military, including one city that is near the iron so that it is within its radius instead of having to use the slave for building a colony. The road was just completed about 5 turns or so ago, and as you have noticed, we have since brought Bonehed back to do work specifically for you (namely the grape hookup) along with upgrading many of our warriors into swordsmen. It is now, and has always been, my intention of only keeping Bonehed around to do work that directly benefits your team and to send him back once all such projects have been completed.
4) False. I hate to say it, but what is written is blatantly wrong. We have known about the smaller island for many turns, since nearly the beginning of the game as it is so close to our capitol city. The second island we just recently discovered (less then 10 turns ago IIRC). We also just recently (last turn) came to suspect that there may be another landmass out to the NW of that location, but it is suicide for a galley to check it out, let alone a curragh (land, 1 coast, 1 sea, 2 ocean, then at the fringes of our visibility, the boundary of what appears to be sea). Why have we not mentioned it prior to now, two very obvious reasons: 1) you never asked and 2) you have not to date even revealed just how much land you have to your SE, or anything about the island to the north of the peninsula. The more we explore, the more we find. You are already insisting on having 3/4 of the land on this continent, so when we discover some small island so close to our homeland, why should we just go out and say “Hay guys, as you already have so much land, here is some more for you to plop down some cities on before we can”. So, let me ask now. How big is that island to the north? How far down to the SE does that land go? How many tiles do you have under your “area of influence” with the two proposed splits, and what is the relative worth of said tiles (ie 13 hills, 21 plains, 34 grasslands, etc). I do not think there is any UN regulation in exchanging tile counts, as long as no actual maps trade hands – however, do not trust me on this (which is why I am not posting our own counts here and giving them to you – I want our own people to verify such as I have no real idea of how the UN is organized, let alone run).
5) You are taking my request for purchasing settlers totally out of context. I would not sell, nor would I expect you to sell, any settlers or workers until and after all your uses for such were done. Your traits are such that you can grow and work land extremely fast. You talk about how we have been exploring your land for so long, yet what has kept you from exploring our areas? We would have gladly excepted you sooner if you choose to come, and yet you CHOOSE not to. Fine. Your choice, not ours. So why are you ‘blaming’ us for your lack of exploration? Send over a horse unit, as that will move 2 times as fast and cover much more ground. Send him right now if you want – not like our war efforts are such that one horse cannot be spared. Each us our teams have enough units to kill CDG, let alone needing both of us. I do so wish we could trade maps, this would make things so much easier. You harp on about how you want to have the border established so far south, and yet look at the basic facts: That will give you at least 3/4 of the land on this continent. We are commercial, so we have less corruption. We are paranoid, and wish to have a border that is defensible – such as at the narrowest point of land between the two capitols. We are asking to have a division to the north and you would still have 3/5 of the land; land which is, by all appearances, far more productive in food and shields than our lands are. You go on about how our stance has not changed, well, as far as I have seen, neither has yours. The only agreement that has been reached is that nobody will settle the land between meeting mountain and the silk colony mountain (or whatever we are calling the location we have proposed for the border) unless there are absolutely no other city cites to colonize.
Ahhh. Guess I should have finished reading your letter before sending my response. It appears that you have already decided to scout. Good. Let us hope that the Kraaken and Cobra explore well and fast. Our unit will keep exploring the land to your SE, doing his best to keep out of the way of your future slave workforce… er, um, barbarians, for you to harvest.
Hummm, you seem to think that tile counts are against the UN. As I said above, let’s research it, as I don’t see what the problem of disclosing the number of hills, mountains, plains, etc. so as to be able to establish a border that is reasonably equitable.
Let us plan on doing a couple of things.
1) Research at the UN what is acceptable for trading info in regards to tile counts, and so forth.
2) Ask the UN (if there is anybody to ask, as I said, I really have no idea what is involved with that organization) if in our instance we can trade a limited number of screen shots in order to come up with an equitable border. All such shots would go through the UN folks so as to be shown to be free of “Map Trading” issues and rules and such.
3) Communicate, communicate, communicate. As I said, I never expected to trade lux until after the war, so we need to either create or fix something here.
4) Plan on meeting or chatting or setting up a forum for us to discuss and go about resolving the border issue. As you can tell, we feel we are being more than fare in the area we are proposing the border, and feel that you are being greedy beyond belief in asking for so much more. You, of course, don’t see it that way at all. Fine, we agree to have differences in this regard, and we agree to sit down with you to discuss it AFTER we take over CDG. No point in doing so at this time as you have far too much land to colonize to your north and SE while we have yet to consolidate CDG and fill in the gaps in our lands.
Oh ya, you speak of actions. Well, we have given all that we are capable of, and as you must realize that by the end of the middle ages, we will be supplying more techs to you than you are giving to us at this time. It will balance out, provided it goes that long. What more would you have us do? Do you want us to give you iron at this time? We will. Want a RoP? Fine. Ask, as we are more than willing to give it to show our sincerity in this relationship. As proof, I will write orders (abet ones that the consuls will probably not follow, but I will write them up shortly anyways) giving you our only source of wine THIS TURN. Is that action enough to show that we are sincere in wanting to work with you?
As you can probably tell, your letter ticked me off in more than one regards – your tone, your blindness to our side of the matter, the lack of communication between both our teams, and to a large extent (as I don’t want to air our internal dirty laundry too much) the fact that the Apolyton Consuls have changed 1 in 3 of my recommendations for worker actions, settler locations, wf allocation, etc with no regards to the long term consequences of such. Hopefully this candid response as MOI of Team Apolyton (for now anyways, this letter has a good chance of loosing me that position once I post it, as I intend on sending it to you prior to letting the team review it) will help clear the air as no doubt your letter is attempting to do for your team.
Sincerely,
Richard W. Olson, PE
aka: Godking, MoI for Apolyton
ps – all observations in this letter are the personal observations of myself, and to the extent of my position in and on the team, of my office. As I am not a consul or our FAM, they are, unfortunately, unofficial.

New Year's Resolution: 2005 is the year of Where It's At - come get some.

Just now sent:
quote:
Nobles and citizens of PAL,
I apologise for the situation between us getting to this point unresolved - and part of this is my responsibility, as a Consul for Apolyton, I took it upon myself to coordinate some of the Foreign Affairs in the sudden absence of our Ambassador conmcb25. There are concerns and disgareements affecting attitudes on both sides, but I believe that these can be resolved if we correct the miscommunication between us.
So I hope that we can now completely air our concerns and resolve them to our mutual satisfaction. You have already started, and given us much to discuss to begin with. What I propose next is either: 1. Scheduling a chat with members of PAL who wish to put forward the team's view and are willing to listen in return, so that we can try to better understand each other and find ways to trust each other. I want to attend this chat at the very least, and hopefully other members of Apolyton who are prepared to discuss on an equal level will join me; or 2. At least continue emails between each of our teams so we can try to resolve this not in real-time. Less efficient, but certainly worth it if 1. can't be done. So please, respond when you can, so that we can get things on the right track again. For the time being I'll pull together a team, or at least Consular, response to each of your points.
I hope you see, as I do, that our teams have a great potential together, and that we should be able to clear things up with a little effort. Our teams clearly operate very differently, and this is undoubtedly the cause of most of the difficulties. You will notice from GodKing's letter and the save when it arrives that we have made a gesture of friendship towards resolving our differences - despite the fact we have not completed the hookup of a second set of wines for you, we have offered our one source to you. Please accept this gift, and know that it is characteristic of our intentions to support you as you support us.
Thanks, and I hope to hear back from you soon.

Consul of Apolyton

Sent to F-P:
quote: "To the Esteemed Members of PAL.
First of all lets let cooler heads and cooler words prevail. We have put way to much effort into this alliance on both sides to let some misunderstandings between some of our team members come in the way of the alliance at this late date.
First of all on the land split. Here is an excerpt from your email:
QUOTE by F-P: "Unfortunately UN rules prevent a precise revelation of this number, but we will be able to, precisely accurately, draw such a line once CDG’s and your northwestern lands are known. We estimate that these regions will become completely known to us in 10-12 turns at most."
Here is the rules on that subject straight from the UN, QUOTE by FortyJ: "1.6 - Invalid Map Trading
Description: No team or individual is permitted to barter, gift, or otherwise trade any sort of map, whether it be a screen shot, minimap, hand drawing, or any other 'picture' of the in-game map, mini-map, or embassy screenshot before the requisite tech is discovered. Verbal/text descriptions are allowed, but coordinates are not.
Definition: A team creating screen shots, drawings, or other depictions of any part of the in-game map before the requisite tech has been discovered.
Purpose: To prevent the use of outside game elements to break the spirit of the game by allowing maps to be traded before they are allowed in-game.
Verdict: Using this exploit or any other exploit that allows any map trading before the tech is discovered through any means is a violation of this rule.
Punishment Level: Once – Orange (1-5 Turns), Repeat Offense - Red (2-20 Turns)"
NOTE THE BOLDED PART. We think that sharing tile counts is OK, at least that is our interpretation of this ridiculously large rule book
My suggestion is to just share the tile counts that we each know of, north and south of a diagonal line NW/SE of meeting mountain. Lets leave the diagonal out of the tile counts and start from there. You give us the tile count north of the line and we give you the tile count south of the line. Lets leave the island tile counts separate since that now seems to be a bone of contention as well :sigh:
And F-P if I have to Ill dig up the corrospondence but we told you there was islands there ages ago. We have just recently gotten a ship up there to fully explore them. So at least cut us a little bit of slack on the island issue
What do you guys think? Or are you willing to let this sit for another 10-12 turns until your exploration is complete?
The Bonehead issue is strictly my fault. As we continued planning for our expansion it became clear it made more sense to just build a city vice a colony. This of course all developed right before I left for Europe, when I simply did not have the time to let you guys know. My fault plain and simple and GodKing has been bugging the team to let you guys know about it for at least the last month or so in real time. We did however use Bonehead to complete the "Iron Road" that I might add is going to benefit both of us in this alliance. If you wish we can return Bonehead if that will generate some goodwill between the teams.
Lets start with these two issues and begin to rapidly repair some of the rifts caused by some of the misunderstandings with the chat last week.
Further more if there is some place where we could have a forum as F-P discussed a couple of weeks ago that would be great. I strongly recommend that we try and set one up as soon as possible. If your site did not work for that we can probably convince Master Zen to set us up a private forum at "Master Zen Online". Because it wont happen at Apoly. Let us know on that as well but its become very obvious to myself personnally that we need to communicate more.
And we need to communicate more as teams. Right now going strictly thru diplomatic channels is not working fast and effectively enough. Im a one man show in our FAM department and if I have to disappear for a while, it certainly hurts our communications. And there is a distinct possibility I may go back to Europe for THREE months after the first of the year.
Lets start with these issues and work from there.

The chat with PAL in its entirety, looks like it happened early saturday last USA time. (I think)
quote: [14:56] Friedrich: you tell Max how to get here?
[14:56] WIA: Yep
[14:56] * Maxfin has joined #idgtalks
[14:56] WIA: Ah!
[14:56] WIA: Welcome..
[14:57] Friedrich: jesuchristo, this two job thing is kicking my ASS
[14:57] Maxfin: morning everyone
[14:57] Maxfin: just quick visit :P
[14:57] Friedrich: heh, mornin'
[14:57] WIA: Sure. All welcome (well from PAL and APO anyway )
[14:57] Friedrich: well, really this is mostly a information relay
[14:57] Godking: I have 3 job sites under construction at this time... I am working from 5 am to 9 pm almost every day til thanksgiving
[14:57] Friedrich: yuck
[14:58] WIA: I'm afraid I can't open the save from here, but I will do what I can with my memory
[14:58] Friedrich: k...
[14:58] Godking: I have it open
[14:58] WIA: We may as well kick off, unless anyone wants to wait for a bit...?
[14:58] Friedrich: first thing; we've found multiple sea tiles peering out at us from west of Crudetown
[14:58] Friedrich: you guys know anything about the water north of you?
[14:58] Godking: No, togas, oct and II are not on line right now.
[14:58] WIA: Crudetown... just a sec
[14:58] Friedrich: southernmost town, near the silks
[14:59] Friedrich: if that's the other continent over there...
[14:59] Friedrich: well, it'll make life interesting
[14:59] Godking: Ya, there is a small island we are looking at. Have done a small recon of it, and it will hold 1 city.
[14:59] WIA: OK, found a mp
[14:59] WIA: *map
[14:59] Friedrich: is it roughly in line with Crudetown, maybe a tad south, same latitude mostly?
[14:59] Godking: Ya, more or less.
[15:00] Friedrich: okay. that's what we're seeing fringes of then
[15:00] Friedrich: good news and bad news, I guess, depending on how you look at it
[15:00] WIA: The island we've found is a bit further west than that though, immediately north of our core
[15:00] WIA: So that could be another island...
[15:00] Friedrich: hmm. interesting.
[15:00] Friedrich: well, we're not about to go banzai-joe anytime soon
[15:00] WIA: Certainly not the other continent though
[15:00] Friedrich: okay, next bit
[15:00] Friedrich: we noticed you guys have the iron thing goin' on now
[15:00] WIA: We have Curraghs charting around there, just not much of interest yet
[15:01] Friedrich: "Best unit is the Swordsman!"
[15:01] WIA: Yep, and many upgrades completed!
[15:01] Godking: What about the island to the north of the peninsula (north of Swiss City)
[15:01] Friedrich: ...but we also noticed Bonehed hasn't been put to the stake. While that's cool, do you think we could maybe plant his head on a stake on those wines on the hill?
[15:01] WIA: WRT Bonehed - he is heading straight to the wines to road now.
[15:01] Godking: Actually, we are going to road the hills and send him back.
[15:01] Friedrich: We're going to be pretty hungry for lux in the near future, for obvious reasons
[15:01] WIA: Should be there in...
[15:02] WIA: 2 turns
[15:02] Friedrich: bah, just plant his head on a damn pike on the hill. :P
[15:02] Friedrich: hehe
[15:02] Friedrich: you have no idea how much we hate that guy.
[15:02] * WIA calls for Pikemen
[15:02] Friedrich: up to you
[15:02] Friedrich: anyhow
[15:02] Friedrich: the island north of us is an unknown quantity
[15:02] Friedrich: but won't be for much longer
[15:02] Friedrich: we've invested in a modest navy, and one vessel is heading that way.
[15:02] WIA: Cool.
[15:03] Friedrich: okay, last "real" thing - the war date
[15:03] WIA: I imagine it will end icily, but worth checking
[15:03] Godking: You have a galley in the area? Our currach was going to heda that way.
[15:03] Friedrich: we're in position to strike the first town..well.. now
[15:03] Friedrich: any time
[15:03] WIA: OK. We want to establish one last city near their borders and finish the road to it
[15:03] Friedrich: The people have voted to give me immediate strike powers if CDG goes into Anarchy or displays Masonry, but barring either of those factors...
[15:03] Godking: We have 1 more sword to build (done in 1) then anarchy, then we are ready.
[15:03] WIA: We have all the troops needed, IIRC
[15:04] WIA: Ah - GK is more right than I - he's the guy with the knowledge of this
[15:04] Friedrich: We don't know if the Literature request was pursued by them
[15:04] * Kloreep has joined #idgtalks
[15:04] Friedrich: if it was, the only way we'll jump them early is if they go into Anarchy
[15:04] Kloreep: Hi
[15:05] WIA: Yes, about Anarchy, we've been hinting we could give them a (as yet unconnected) second lux so they could go into Anarchy, but so far nothing has come of that.
[15:05] Friedrich: so are you talking the turn you convert out of anarchy, you attack immediately, or "out+1"
[15:05] Godking: We can go into anarchy now, but we prefer to start the war out of it in case our GA starts.
[15:05] Friedrich: oh I understand
[15:05] Friedrich: were you also planning on taking that new city, btw?
[15:05] Friedrich: probably not until it grows either way, but...
[15:05] Godking: We will be fully in position durring anarchy, and our troop will start marching the turn we exit it.
[15:05] WIA: So all we are waiting for (GK will correct me), is this last Sword, and then Anarchy.
[15:05] Godking: correct
[15:06] Friedrich: excellent.
[15:06] WIA: Then attack as close to the end of Anarchy as possible (preferably out of it, but we have to see what they do as well)
[15:06] Friedrich: Okay, let us know what turn you get out then.
[15:06] Godking: Will do.
[15:06] Friedrich: I believe our plan is Anarchy next as well - I think
[15:06] Friedrich: either that or the turn after.
[15:06] WIA: So timing is hopefully no more than about 5 turns, if Anarchy is nice to us
[15:06] Friedrich: pray for 2! heeh
[15:06] Friedrich: okay, another point...
[15:06] Friedrich: how long on currency?
[15:07] Friedrich: I'm sure it's "awhile"
[15:07] WIA: FP - are you planning on getting out of Anarchy before the attack, or just whenever is best to invade?
[15:07] Friedrich: but how long
[15:07] Godking: 31 at this time...
[15:07] Friedrich: well, our GA will not be affected by the war, obviously
[15:07] Friedrich: 31!
[15:07] Friedrich: wow. Okay, that works out well actually.
[15:07] Friedrich: ::chuckle::
[15:07] WIA: We've been saving cash for the upgrades
[15:07] Friedrich: we're going to be doing a massive sweep-and-clear of barb camps and we won't be in position to do that immediately.
[15:08] Godking: We had a tonn of upgrades of warriors to swords.... way to many IMHO, but that is what our military wanted.
[15:08] Friedrich: We're currently arguing about just how fast to fill that SE area
[15:08] WIA: WOn't be in a position to do what?
[15:08] Friedrich: but there are a few barb camps down there
[15:08] Godking: Slowly, please.
[15:08] Friedrich: ?
[15:08] Godking: Ooops,,, SW...
[15:08] Friedrich: We're honoring the disputed zone until we resolve that.
[15:08] Godking: fill the SE as soon as you want.
[15:08] Friedrich: I said SE.
[15:08] WIA: Yes
[15:09] WIA: [15:07] Friedrich: we're going to be doing a massive sweep-and-clear of barb camps and we won't be in position to do that immediately.
[15:09] WIA: WOn't be in a position to do what?
[15:09] Friedrich: well, if we're pounding CDG's head into their ass...
[15:09] WIA: Oh I see.
[15:09] Friedrich: we're not in a position to go thump multiple barb camps
[15:09] Friedrich: so if you were finishing currency in 6 like we are construction...
[15:09] Friedrich: we'd have a bit of a flailfest
[15:09] WIA: Wow - that's quick...
[15:09] Godking: CDG has 6 turns to live once the war begins. Most of that is time our armies are spending marching.
[15:09] WIA: Just as well we have it slow.
[15:10] Friedrich: We also envision a very quick spearhead
[15:10] WIA: We'd prefer not to have to thump camps during the war as well.
[15:10] Friedrich: and yeah, our research is popping right along
[15:10] Maxfin: hmm
[15:10] Friedrich: the timing is going to be.... interesting.
[15:10] WIA: Just make sure you guys let us know when you have Construction so we can avoid both of us getting into the next age until ready!
[15:10] Friedrich: with our GA
[15:10] Friedrich: we don't want to be researching nothing if we can avoid it obviously
[15:11] Friedrich: ::Muse::
[15:11] Friedrich: hmm.
[15:11] Godking: what is your research going like?
[15:11] * Octavian_X has joined #idgtalks
[15:11] Friedrich: Post-Anarchy? Staggering
[15:11] Maxfin: 6 turns war, I think they might give up in turn 2 of attack :P
[15:11] Friedrich: Post-Anarchy in GA? Godly
[15:12] Friedrich: 31 may actually turn out to be a problem in the longer haul afte rall
[15:12] Friedrich: I'll have to let the number crunchers stare at that
[15:12] Godking: Ya, same here if we are in republic and we can get the unit support.
[15:12] Friedrich: that's true
[15:12] Friedrich: you'll get it faster than 31, probably more like 10
[15:12] Friedrich: especially if you hit your GA.
[15:13] Friedrich: we may just have to hustle some horses back across the Bay to deal with the camps post-war. heh
[15:13] Friedrich: Have you guys given any thought to research in Medieval?
[15:14] Godking: Well, 31, minus anarchy, plus GA, I suspect we may gain currency in about 20 turns
[15:15] Godking: Not really. it depends on if we get our GA out of the war or not. That is up in the air if they decide to send an archer against a hoplite.
[15:15] Friedrich: You guys willing to lob a hoplite at an injured unit to get it? hehe
[15:16] Godking: heck, against a fort unwounded spear if we have to.
[15:16] Friedrich: hehe.
[15:16] Friedrich: Well, regarding Medieval research, I can tell you one thing...
[15:16] Friedrich: PAL is definitely planning on doing the "gunpowder half"
[15:16] Godking: Of course, if we kill all 12 of them that way, we won't have to worry about unit support so much.
[15:16] Friedrich: it's a nervous-defense thing; since you have iron and we don't, all that jazz
[15:16] Godking: Understand.
[15:17] Friedrich: besides, if we can get cavalry in production nice and early
[15:17] Friedrich: when you guys grab caravels, voila
[15:17] Godking: With all our desert, we have a good chance of having 1 or 2. Of course, you have plenty of hills in your land.
[15:17] Friedrich: the army is already ready to sail across
[15:17] Friedrich: think Saltpeter can be on mountains too, no?
[15:17] Godking: How big of a navy are you thinking of? And yess, mountains as well.,
[15:18] Friedrich: ::Shrug:: No real thought given to that yet
[15:18] Friedrich: but if we're going to sail over and break heads...
[15:19] Godking: We are thinking along the lines of 6 transports at this time, with more as tech progresses. We plan on using ours for scouting mostly at this time.
[15:19] Friedrich: sounds about right; as I say, contrary to popular belief, we don't plan wars that far in advance.
[15:19] Maxfin: lot od missbelieves about PAL :P
[15:19] Friedrich: we're looking forward to a nice, quiet, trait-flexing time for awhile
[15:19] Godking: hahahaha we are already planning on killing at least one of the other teams.
[15:20] Friedrich: oh absolutely, we'll have to
[15:20] Friedrich: but we're concentrating on the interlude mostly
[15:20] Friedrich: though I suppose we DO have boats out looking for sealanes and the Lighthouse in the queue
[15:20] Godking: Out diplo analysis folks figure that they had to of made contact with eachother and are trading between themselves.
[15:20] Godking: Just by the score.
[15:20] Friedrich: eh...
[15:20] Friedrich: I believe "made contact"
[15:20] WIA: Sorry guys - supervisor called
[15:20] Friedrich: not sure I believe "trading"
[15:21] Friedrich: we got Philo awful late guys
[15:21] Friedrich: a concerted effort SHOULD have beaten us
[15:21] Friedrich: that makes me think there isn't one going on over there
[15:21] Friedrich: and remember, SHU can afford to expand reckless- they've got Enkidus
[15:21] Godking: True. But would anybody have rushed for it knowing that we and the vikings had 1 tech to start on it to begin with?
[15:22] WIA: OK, caught up, more or less
[15:22] Friedrich: maybe if they figured they'd have an edge
[15:22] Friedrich: after all, we *could* have beaten you to it
[15:22] Friedrich: obviously that'd have been really dumb
[15:22] Friedrich: but SHU was keeping up with us for awhile
[15:22] WIA: Hell yes! Looking at the map, you guys are one big scary monster
[15:22] Friedrich: they're not now... which we find...puzzling...
[15:23] WIA: Maybe they're going the GL way, and expect to catch up massively with us
[15:23] Friedrich: We're not a big scary monster. :P
[15:23] Godking: True, but we didn't rush it. We lost over 10 turns of tech early on with all the deals we made that caused us to switch researching things 1/2 way through.
[15:23] Friedrich: Think of us as your particularly large, hairy-armed neighbor "Louis"
[15:23] Octavian_X: I prefer Bob, but whatever..
[15:23] Friedrich: who wants to take you out for a night of "real fun" beating some punk heads.
[15:24] WIA: Making us the small, weedy yet wiry fighters?
[15:24] Friedrich: precisely.
[15:24] WIA: A classic comedy duo
[15:24] Friedrich: would you all mind lobbing the iron at us sometime around the knight era to keep our units vaguely current in case something scary happens?
[15:25] Godking: If the other two are not trading (or trading much) we thing a knight and MI invasion will work wonders as they will still be in the ancient era and have no real defense.
[15:25] WIA: I don't see why not.
[15:25] Godking: Sure thing.
[15:25] Godking: we already figured on that.
[15:25] Maxfin: what your intelligence staff thinks about literacy trate?
[15:25] Friedrich: yeah, but if you're wrong and they are trading...
[15:25] Friedrich: and our army shows up to "BANG!"
[15:25] Maxfin: literacy % I mean
[15:25] Friedrich: heh, good question Max
[15:25] Friedrich: have you guys been following that? WTF?
[15:26] WIA: You mean in Demographics?
[15:26] Maxfin: would indicate that they both got lit but I'm not so familiar with those issues
[15:26] Godking: No. I don't understand what you are asking?
[15:26] Maxfin: yeah
[15:26] Friedrich: the only thing we can conclude is either A) something is SNAFU with our understanding, or B) CDG has contact across the continent
[15:26] Friedrich: our Literacy Rate has been going NUTS
[15:26] Friedrich: 1, 2, 4,2
[15:26] Maxfin: 1,3,4,3 you mean ;P
[15:26] Friedrich: what he said
[15:26] Friedrich: it's the "4" that scares us
[15:27] Friedrich: that may mean CDG has talks across the ocean
[15:27] Octavian_X: I doubt that.
[15:27] Godking: Well, I know there are lots of bugs, as we often loose 1-2 turns in production due to unknown reasons.
[15:27] Friedrich: we'd doubt it too, Oct
[15:28] Friedrich: but one of their boats "never came back"
[15:28] Friedrich: we lost track of it
[15:28] WIA: CDG *has* mentioned exploring the waters east of us before\
[15:28] Friedrich: and we should've seen it come home
[15:28] Friedrich: it disappeared in the SE region
[15:28] WIA: Interesting.
[15:28] Friedrich: and we've seen an injured barb boat take off running
[15:28] Friedrich: and then also disappear
[15:28] Godking: and we did also loose track of 2 of theri settlers, but we suspect they lost both to barbs.
[15:28] WIA: Sea monsters?
[15:28] Friedrich: heh
[15:29] Friedrich: well..here's my personal fear
[15:29] Friedrich: this isn't a theory supported by anyone
[15:29] Friedrich: if you're CDG right now, you've GOT to see the writing on the wall
[15:29] Friedrich: PAL is breathing down your neck from above
[15:29] Godking: We lost our first currach to a barb just north of their capitol around 50 turns ago.
[15:29] Friedrich: APO is leaning heavily on you from the west
[15:29] Friedrich: what if they've been running curraghs out east like mad?
[15:29] WIA: We;re not, actually. They've been expanding west as much as they can
[15:29] Maxfin: so it was your curragh then :P
[15:30] Godking: If they can find a 1 square island... they will live til marines.
[15:30] Maxfin: guys need to run, c u later
[15:30] WIA: They have been horribly weak even in relation to us before the upgrade.
[15:30] Friedrich: which will have all kinds of icky implications
[15:30] Friedrich: later Max
[15:30] WIA: OK Max - see you.
[15:30] Octavian_X: They think we're talking trading posibilities over here, and I'm not entirely sure they have the production capacity to spit out curraghs too fast.
[15:30] Godking: later
[15:30] Octavian_X: bye.
[15:30] WIA: It's worth a thought
[15:30] Maxfin: heroic trying to learn using mirc
[15:31] Friedrich: Hero is our Wizard of the Interior
[15:31] Godking: I just sent him the info
[15:31] Friedrich: largely responsible for the goliath north of you
[15:31] WIA: Cool.
[15:31] Friedrich: my hands, his brain, mostly
[15:32] Friedrich: : rods Heroic::
[15:33] Godking: I sent it to him?
[15:33] Friedrich: as did I
[15:34] * Friedrich mutters about Apolytoners playing MP but not knowing what Gamespy is about
[15:34] * Heroic has joined #idgtalks
[15:34] Friedrich: there he is
[15:34] Heroic: :-)
[15:34] Godking: Hello!!!!!
[15:34] Friedrich: someone update him? I gotta grab a cold drink
[15:34] Heroic: irc is new to me
[15:34] Godking: it is easy once you do it a couple of times.
[15:34] Kloreep: Yeah
[15:35] Godking: OK. Short version:
[15:35] Kloreep: Once you learn how to connect, it's easy
[15:35] Heroic: :-)
[15:35] Friedrich: well, let's see
[15:35] Heroic: ahhhh i see the individual messages now
[15:35] Heroic: i get it
[15:35] Friedrich: Bonehed is enroute the wines
[15:35] Godking: we have 1 turn of production, then we go into anarchy. We wish to be out of anarchy so our GA starts in republic.
[15:35] Friedrich: they're going to road them rather than put his head on a stake on the hill ones
[15:35] Heroic: naturally roading is preferred
[15:35] Friedrich: disappointing, but
[15:35] Friedrich: BAH
[15:36] Friedrich: that's BONEHED
[15:36] Friedrich: :P
[15:36] Heroic: but slow :-)
[15:36] * OctavianX has joined #idgtalks
[15:36] Godking: unless you need it sooner, but this way he will be around to serve both our needs for a few more turns. We are more than willing to send him back to you once the wines are connected.
[15:36] OctavianX: bah...
[15:36] * Octavian_X has quit IRC (Killed (NickServ (GHOST command used by OctavianX)))
[15:36] Friedrich: They're planning on jumping the border as soon as they come out of anarchy...
[15:36] Heroic: so APO decied to do anarchy on turn 87? or still 86?
[15:36] Friedrich: the sea north of us is an island
[15:37] Friedrich: they're scouted it out...
[15:37] Heroic: oooo good to know
[15:37] Godking: At the end of next turn, we go into anarchy.
[15:37] Friedrich: are we next turn, or the one after, H?
[15:37] Godking: we just wnat to pump out 1 more sword (done in 1 turn)
[15:38] Godking: anything else?
[15:38] * Friedrich looks at Heroic
[15:38] Friedrich: He always remembers the stuff I forget
[15:38] WIA: Sorry - distracted again
[15:38] Heroic: thinking
[15:39] Heroic: FP did you mention the contigencies for early attack?
[15:39] * Togas has joined #idgtalks
[15:39] Togas: yo
[15:39] Friedrich: yeah, I told them we'd go IMMEDIATELY on sighting Anarchy or Masonry
[15:39] Godking: howdy ho
[15:39] WIA: Hooray - I can work again soon
[15:39] Friedrich: and that we're ready to do so now
[15:40] Friedrich: be nice if we could sucker them into anarchy
[15:40] Godking: we will do what we can, but will not commit to startign our GA in anarchy.
[15:40] Friedrich: no rush builds= good
[15:40] Heroic: yeah.....really nice
[15:40] Friedrich: oh we understand
[15:40] Friedrich: we wouldn't expect you to do so
[15:40] Friedrich: if need be we'll just gobble the back cities we were asked to take care of and then go deal with our barbs.
[15:41] Friedrich: Hero- they're currency in 31, estimating "true" of 20
[15:41] Heroic: oh dear
[15:41] Friedrich: is it just me or are we looking at a few turns of dead research time?
[15:41] Friedrich: even with Lit?
[15:41] Godking: Depends - GA, anarchy, and so forth.
[15:41] Heroic: 20 even in republic?
[15:41] OctavianX: We're running research near nil atm, iirc.
[15:41] Godking: Well, we were full out on money, and in republic we will have massive unit support for a few turns.
[15:42] Heroic: ok.....that is goodto know
[15:42] Heroic: that will definately affect our build plans
[15:42] Friedrich: yeah, I think we're going to have to plan to snag Literature. :/
[15:42] Godking: we have 1 scientist that is doing it all by himself.
[15:42] Heroic: keep encouraging the poor lad (scientist)
[15:42] Heroic: :-)
[15:43] * OctavianX gets the whip out
[15:43] Friedrich: :: ponder::
[15:43] Friedrich: that new city - you planning on squishing it?
[15:43] Godking: Trust me, over here at the interior ministry, we have been badgering the poor man to hurry up.
[15:43] WIA: The new city of CDG...the one on your road?
[15:43] Heroic:
[15:43] Godking: ya. Hopefully it will gain a pop or two
[15:44] Friedrich: yeah. we were a bit peckish about that.
[15:44] Godking: so we can take it instead of just crushing it.
[15:44] Heroic: did we want to discuss naval options
[15:44] Friedrich: they really, REALLY need to stop pricking the dragon
[15:44] Heroic: for ensuring CDG does not escape
[15:44] Friedrich: ::Mutter::
[15:44] Heroic: ??
[15:44] Friedrich: there's a fair concern
[15:44] Friedrich: "Settler in a boat, adios!"
[15:44] Heroic: would be ugly for them to find a 1 tile island
[15:44] Godking: we only have a couple of currachs, and they are far far away from them at this time.
[15:45] Friedrich: and we still have that unaccounted-for boat of theirs that disappeared in the SE area. :/
[15:45] Heroic: and then we would have to wait clear until marines
[15:45] WIA: OK hangonasec
[15:45] WIA: We have the sealanes thing sorted
[15:45] Friedrich: ?
[15:45] WIA: We have the time until anarchy sorted
[15:45] Friedrich: yep
[15:45] Godking: We are hoping they are trying to settle the landmass to your SE and not yet realizing it is connected (if they even have a settler out there that is).
[15:45] WIA: We have to discuss exactly where each of us is attacking
[15:46] WIA: ...and what would be a possible acceptable trade to CDG for MM
[15:46] Friedrich: God - we're 99% sure they've circumnavigated the continent
[15:46] WIA: Anything else?
[15:46] WIA: I just want to keep things a little organised - some of you guys have to sleep sometime, I guess
[15:46] Friedrich: CDG for MM!?
[15:46] Friedrich: ::is lost::
[15:46] Heroic: so plan is to attack as soon as APO emerges from anarchy....if no other contingencies happen
[15:46] Friedrich: they've got it
[15:46] Godking: yes Heroic
[15:46] WIA: Yes. If we can get it, we may as well, unless we have to give them too much
[15:46] Togas: Plan is to attack after we begin Republic
[15:47] Friedrich: why? We can give it to you at any time
[15:47] Friedrich: you told us to hold off. :P
[15:47] WIA: Oh really? Whoops. Never mind that then
[15:47] Godking: we stil need it, but will be getting it from PAL not CDG WIA
[15:47] Friedrich: hehe
[15:47] WIA: AH OK. Ignore me
[15:47] Friedrich: we have Poly and Maps awaiting your call.
[15:47] * WIA goes to do work for a while
[15:47] OctavianX: We already do, WIA.
[15:48] Godking: yes, we want currachs to be able to upgrade
[15:48] Friedrich: Personally I'd rather just give it to you to keep the boards between us clear and straight at all times - that's our way - but since you said not to..
[15:48] Togas: Regarding CityWithNoName ... we could take it, but it would be the last city to fall. I would prefer that PAL send a few horses to nab it, but if you don't have the resources to do so, we'll double back and take it.
[15:49] Godking: I know, but the ability to upgrade and our financial strength is to our benifit.
[15:50] Godking: Also, we still have a few warriors in the queue, so if we get any techs now, we loose them.
[15:50] Heroic: we also view it as a latter city to fall....... i think
[15:50] Friedrich: yeah.
[15:50] Friedrich: if we don't, I'll straighten the MoW out. :P
[15:50] Friedrich: the capital is the win/lose point
[15:51] Friedrich: though I don't think "lose" is likely. heh
[15:51] Godking: We have enought to take them out ourselves. So do you. so I doubt there will be much left over.
[15:51] Friedrich: Well, I think we're done if you are. We're going to have to figure out how to jigger things with Currency running as it is
[15:51] Godking: Gold. Lots of gold.
[15:52] Friedrich: yeah, except YOU have Currency.
[15:52] Togas: you'll just have to be patient
[15:52] Friedrich: Thanks there, Dad.
[15:52] Godking:
[15:53] Heroic: :/
[15:53] * WIA waves his rattle
[15:53] Heroic: we'll see what can be done
[15:53] Godking: So, do you want bonehed back after we road the grapes?
[15:54] Heroic: lol.....i'm and interior person.....I never complain at more workers/slaves :-)
[15:54] Heroic: we certainly have plenty for them to do
[15:54] Heroic: and the demand will grow once the pointy building is done
[15:54] Godking: Lots of swamp to clear
[15:55] Heroic: we will certainly welcome his return
[15:55] WIA: As for borders... I did some work towards this, but I'm afraid to say with jury duty, catching up and now a flu I haven't got it to the point of starting up a real discussion. Sorry.
[15:55] WIA: BUT I have started. I will send you the figures I have when I can
[15:55] Togas: the border thing needs to be argued. It's a sore spot that remains unresolved for both of us.
[15:55] Godking: Will do. we will hook up the extra grape and then send him your way.
[15:56] Friedrich: Indeed.
[15:56] WIA: I gotta find my notes first :_
[15:56] Heroic: how large are these islands APO has discovered?
[15:56] WIA: We've found one with, what? 4 tiles?
[15:56] Togas: north island = 3 tiles
[15:56] Togas: south island = 8 tiles
[15:56] Friedrich: there's a south island?
[15:56] Friedrich: heh
[15:56] Togas: that sealand you see, goes to the islands
[15:57] Togas: and to the west of those islands ... nothing but ocean :/
[15:57] OctavianX: Actually...
[15:57] OctavianX: You know where that whale is near the north island?
[15:57] Friedrich: Nope.
[15:58] OctavianX: I'm looking at the save - if you take out the fow, it looks like the edge of sea across a strip of ocean a tile wide.
[15:58] Godking: We are looking for an almost even split, which would be around the silk colony. You will still have much better land, but the tile count would be about even. You will also have a slight edge inthe tiles
[15:58] Friedrich: .....
[15:58] OctavianX: I apoligize - I'm refering to our maps...
[15:58] Friedrich: unless we really want to get into this tonight...
[15:58] WIA: Is there anything else those who need to leave need to discuss now?
[15:58] Godking: Up to you.
[15:58] Heroic: i think the people of pal
[15:58] Friedrich: I think the problem is that the land discussion will not be a short one.
[15:59] Heroic: will want to konw there are islands
[15:59] WIA: You're probably right there.
[15:59] Godking: OK
[15:59] Togas: the split you guys have already proposed gives us less land even with the islands.
[15:59] Togas: and every turn we find more land to your south-east
[15:59] Friedrich: .....
[15:59] WIA: Um... are we getting into this now then?
[16:00] Godking: Just think about it.
[16:00] Friedrich: I think this would not be a prudent discussion to have this evening.
[16:00] Friedrich: We have, sir.
[16:00] Friedrich: We have thought about many of the gifts we give to Apolyton.
[16:00] Friedrich: ::Stare::
[16:00] Friedrich: Including all the cities of CDG.
[16:00] Friedrich: and the settlers you want, and we can and will provide.
[16:00] WIA: OK cool. Let's leave the chat at this then, seeing as we have chatted candidly about so much and agreed on so much.
[16:01] Togas: You don't have to give us any of the CDG cities, you chose to.
[16:01] Togas: don't hold that over our heads
[16:01] WIA: My head couldn't take much more anyway.... stupid flu
[16:01] Friedrich: Indeed?
[16:01] Friedrich: Your advice is duly noted, master diplomat.
[16:01] Friedrich: Now I would again request we table this issue.
[16:01] Friedrich: As I requested once before, lest someone's tongue drag the debate even further over coals.
[16:01] Godking: 12 TABLED.
[16:02] WIA: You mean shelve it?
[16:02] WIA:
[16:02] Heroic: i think it wise we focus for now on what we can do soonest
[16:02] Godking: Anything else?
[16:02] Heroic: we are both entering anarchy
[16:02] Heroic: anyway
[16:02] Friedrich: No, quite. Everything else is very satisfactory.
[16:02] WIA: When exactly are you guys in Anarchy?
[16:02] WIA: Us in one more turn
[16:03] Heroic: turn 87 we will initiate it
[16:04] WIA: OK, we'll have the lux hooked up in a few and will send to you then. Not much more I can think of, really.
[16:04] Friedrich: Excellent. I'm sure that any and all issues can be resolved in a mutually agreeable manner.
[16:04] Heroic: you have more than 1 worker on it?
[16:04] Friedrich: By qualified, careful discussion.
[16:04] Godking: 2 turns of movement, then start roading. We will have someone join him shortly to help road.
[16:04] Heroic: ok.....darned anarchy slow workers
[16:05] Heroic: I feel your pain
[16:05] WIA: Ah - my response was rendered invalid by our excellent MoI 0.0
[16:05] Friedrich: hehe
[16:05] Friedrich: Heroic does that to me a lot, too
[16:05] WIA: I just wish our MoW could have been here as well.
[16:05] Friedrich: "I was thinking... oh...right, yeah, uh, what he said"
[16:05] Godking: ;D
[16:05] WIA: NM, I'm sure things will be simple...
[16:06] Friedrich: Alright, I gotta go iron my clothes for tomorrow unless you guys have anything else?
[16:06] WIA: Nope - we're cool
[16:06] Friedrich: Excellent.
[16:06] Godking: Me have swords. Me stab. Me march. Me stab again.
[16:06] OctavianX: Nothing comes to my mind.
[16:06] WIA: Thanks for showing up, all you PALers.
[16:06] Heroic: :-)
[16:06] Heroic: Good things to come :-)
[16:06] OctavianX: Have a nice rest-of-the-evening.
[16:06] WIA: Next time we'll try and sort out the complexities of your chatting system...
[16:07] Godking: Ya, you disbanded the PAL Diplo room in Gamespy
[16:07] Friedrich: sorry, that was me
[16:07] Godking: I tried looking for you there earlier. No big deal. Night (or morning) all.
[16:08] Godking: By
[16:08] * Godking has left #idgtalks
[16:08] Friedrich: Evening, then, chaps. Pleasure as always.
[16:08] * Friedrich has left #idgtalks
[16:09] Heroic: :tips his hat and waves:
[16:09] * Heroic has left #idgtalks
[16:11] * Togas has left #idgtalks
[16:13] * Kloreep has left #idgtalks
[16:17] WIA: Just for a little while, eh Max |
