"of" is meaningless Deadline is the key. A deadline is the last possible date. Its best to get things done "before the deadline".

Altavista tells me "plazo" means deadline in Spanish.

Giancarlo, yes I'm not sure about the status on SA-16. And yeah, they can't have much bigger AA weaponry or system, as they would get blown to pieces before succesful installation or fixing them up.

Since "handover" can be defined several ways, he may not have lied. It will probably be a very long time until a non American puppet state not dependant on the US exists in Iraq.

Good for Spain. Hopefully other nations will stop backing America's latest imperialist project.

Yes he did lie. Handover is the one that is occurring on June 30th. Again don't try to play Bill Clintonist crap with me.

Imperialist project? Oh please. And the South Koreans are still sending 3,000.. so I don't really care about Spanish troops leaving or not.

South Korea - perfect example of a US puppet. How many US troop are there & how long have they been there ? How free and fair have S Korean elections been ? How is political dissent handled ? How much US money is invested in S Korea ?

I could go on, but a best case scenario for American Iraq is becoming a South Korea.

Zapatero wanted a handover to UN control. There is no plan for UN control of any kind come June 30th, or before. Handover to a provesional government soley dependent on the US military for internal security (just ook at what Bremer said), that US military being control from Washington, is NOT UN control.

Not true.

Bush and Blair just endorsed the UN's recommended plan for the UN caretaker government to takeover on June 30th.

http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...60&pagenumber=1

Politically the UN will be in charge. The US will still be in charge of security.

Put an end to popups!

Al-Qaeda and Spain have agreed to the Al-Qaeda truce offer then?

Well, I guess the libs here will spend the next 20 posts talking about how this was just the will of the people.

The Spanish Socialist are nothing more than Cowards. No wonder they want to take their orders from the surrender monkeys to the north.

Uh, Uncle Sparky, it's not the 1980s anymore. South Korea has a functional democracy, despite US efforts to the contrary. With the Uri party victory in last week's elections, South Korea just might pull their troops out as well... that is, after they sort out the whole impeachment/attempted right-wing coup thing.

Ok, but look, the new Spanish PM promised to get his country's troops out of Iraq in short order shortly arter winning the election. How long did it take for his troops to become the subject of fresh attacks? They didn't give the Spaniards much time to carry out their withdrawal did they? I don't think that the Iraqi "insurgency" is capable of negotiating in good faith, so what's the point of responding to any of their demands?

No he didn't. He said he would maintain troops there until June 30th. I'm saying Spanish troops should stay there and kill as many insurgents as possible (of the few that remain).

Spain's decision to pull out of Iraq has nothing to do with any so-called "truces." The people opposed going into Iraq in the first place and the Socialists promised to pull them out if elected. Al Qaeda and others are just trying to use this to their own advantage--like some bad OT troll--and the chickenhawks keep biting.
