ooc: I don't mean to get into a flame war with you, Lazerus, so I hope it doesn't come off as such. I just think secret cities under the ground, nerve staples and seeker drones are way too sci-fi for this forum.
I think, far from enhancing role-play, it weakens it immensely, as it leads to us all trying to out-do each other in terms of creating wildly inventive future tech. I think some future tech is ok, as long as it is technically feasible in the here-and-now. Otherwise, for me at least, it is the same as someone using magic or supernatural powers. All fun, in their place. I just happen to think that this is not it.
So... rather than get into an argument with you, I thought I should just say my piece, and treat any subsequent sci-fi tech as Kim Il-Jung style ravings.

General Frankychan donned his cap and adjusted his sunglasses. He was to broadcast a live message to the nations of Apolyton in moments.
The cameraman signaled that he was ready. General Frankychan nodded and the broadcast began...

"Nations of Apolyton. I am General Frankychan of Frankychanland. Some of you flat out REFUSE to acknowledge my new title....but it is of no consequence.
The recent escalation between certain nations and my own have not been without merit. But these constant accusations of warmongering from these obviously hostile nations should not be ignored. The grand nations of Auldonina and the Hive have graciously lended their support in Frankychanland's war of sovereignty and independence from outside powers.
These nations have promised to help bolster our defenses in this dark time, and I pledge that the military of Frankychanland will defend our nations sovereignty, as well as to protect our allies.
Additionally, there has been some concern about Frankychanland's treatment of the now displaced people of Azan. Let me just say that our nation helped to topple that corrupt regime and with the help of our great allies we will rebuild it to a nation that will be the envy of every other nation here in Apolyton.
But, until that time, the nation of Azan, as well as it's people and industry, are under the direct supervision of Frankychanland, Auldonina, and the Hive. Any interference will be met with deadly force.
The nations of Apolyton would do well to remember that."

Note that Guardinian Naval Forces are actually inside the FCL/Auldoninnan patrol zone on two locations, each occupied by a single submarine. These are the two Guardinian "stealth subs" Sneaky and Snoopy, which were mentioned in a post last week. They're both trying to live up to their names, with the Sneaky sneaking around on the east coast of former Azan while the Snoopy is snooping around in the Auldoninnan-controlled waters on the west coast. These subs will be very hard to find, but perhaps not completely impossible...  
Also, Guardinian Special Forces are on the ground in former Azan and in former Evil Evil Finland, attempting to find out first-hand what the heck is going on and who the "terrorists" really are.
The Guardinian Air Force is conducting air patrols and reconnaisance overflights covering most of the area shown on this map. The regular air patrols always take care not to overfly FCL/Auldoninnan/Hive forces directly or entering their declared exclusion zones, but what the stealthier spy aircraft do are a different story...

President Howard, welcomes the inspections by Guardinian forces , we jsut hope you wqatch your heads whilst the bombs drop.
If Guardinia can cotnrol the terrorists the Auldonina Ground forces wont be required...

Dear President Howard,
I do hope that you are not offended by my utter lack of sympathy for your nation on it's present course. If you wer eopen about what you were doing, I might be able to dredge up some scrap of respect for you, but as it is, you have joined with Hive and FCL forces in invading, occupying, and despoiling the neutral nation of Azan, on the flimsiest of pretexts, and you then have the nerve to complain when people fight back.
This is a fundamental lesson you have yet to learn: when you attack people, when you impoverish them and take awya their freedom, they do not passively submit. They resist. Regardless of who the resistance is directed against, there are only two ways to end it: ceasing oppression, or genocide. Your government appears to have taken the latter course, and for that, you shall stand condemned for as long as your nation is remembered.
Incidentally, you may be surprised to learn that we have, in fact, suffered terrorist attacks against our people, dometimes quite severe ones. Amazingly enough, our policy was not the complete depopulation of the areas the terrorists originated from, nor was it to bomb cities that they might or might not be hiding in. Instead, we compiled evidence, gathered intelligence, and arrested the people who did it. You would do well to take note, President Howard.

My dear Minister.
As the terrorists were not located on our homeland, we could not arrest them as you say. We had to find them , which we did, and finding that they were wel larmed we fought them with al lwe had.
Also we have not joined forces with the Hive, we have only acknowledeged them as friendly due to their help of the FCL people. However, yes we have allyed with the FCL people as we feel their fight is a worthy fight. a fight to free theri own people.
We wont lower ourselve st oyour level of abuse, you may swear and curse to your hearts content, we are jsutified in wht we have done, and as we stated many times, the land we currently occupy will be returned to the Azan people. We wish no control over their remaining peoples.

Official statement by Guardinian Department of Foreign Affairs
Guardinia does not recognize the new borders of Azan as outlined by Auldoninna.
We support Jonchastan's proposal to turn control of Azan temporarily over to the Apolyton Court. However, in light of the continuing military buildup and extremely aggressive posturing by Auldoninnan military forces literally right on our doorsteps, Guardinia is compelled to respond by increasing the readiness of our own forces.
Today we announce that our Navy and Air Force are now being fully mobilized and that elements of the Army are also being placed on alert and deployed to forward bases. We maintain nonetheless that these are in fact restrained and measured responses by Guardinia. Every action we have taken so far has been defensive in nature. We have not been blocking, harrassing or threatening anyone, even with bombs and missiles exploding within few kilometers of our borders.
To this day, we have not seen any solid evidence that has convinced us of the "extreme nature" of these "terrorists" the Auldoninnan Forces are attacking. We are investigating matters on our own, but so far we have found very little information to back up the Auldoninnan claims. We are somewhat perplexed by Auldoninna's failure to provide hard evidence to support their claims, given that so many have questioned their motives.
Guardinian Special Forces are currently inside Evil Evil Finland investigating one of the areas Auldoninna claims to be a terrorist base. The bombardment unleashed upon this area by the Auldoninnans has driven several thousand new refugees across the border and into Guardinia. Given the present lack of evidence against them, all who reach the border shall be under Guardinian protection until further notice. Immigration authorities and Red Cross volunteers are helping the National Guard and the local police forces in handling all these refugees. Officials have interviewed several individuals as part of our investigation efforts.
We are quite concerned about the seemingly indiscriminate bombing of whole villages or even cities. Such actions are not justified under any circumstances.
We call for an immediate cease fire, pending an official investigation of these so-called terrorists by the Apolyton Court.

Night time, on the outskirts of an "independent Azanian city" in south-eastern Azan
Several dark figures were moving quickly and quietly through the night, pausing periodically in concealed positions. Officially they were not supposed to be here, but they were, and they had a job to do. The Auldoninnans claimed that the area was now secure and that their forces had left the city. The dark figures were here to find out if that was true, and to uncover what had really happened here.

Destroyer GNS Excalibur, in international waters east of Azan
"Are you sure, Captain?"
"You'd better believe I'm sure, son! Get those helos on their way now! That's an order!"
"Aye aye, sir!"
Minutes later, the Excalibur's two helicopters were racing out across the water, low and fast. They were heading west, and within less than 30 seconds they would be entering the area patroled by the FCL and Auldoninnan navies. Other Guardinian ships in the area were also launching their helos.
Another unidentified vessel had just almost made it into international waters before being hit and sunk by an Auldoninnan destroyer. The destroyer had immediately turned away and headed north after firing.
Now the Guardinians were sending helicopters in to look for survivors...
