Wackjob yes.....but not boring. That was the beauty of it you never knew what was going to come out of his mouth

And not defending him but you can't be to much of a wack job if you hold a law degree and an MD. Something had to be going on upstairs at one point......maybe it just sliped a little

Ahhhh yes I do have other interest. I am politically motivated considering family members are fomer congressmen etc....but I usually try to stay out of these discussions because some usually always winds up calling someone and idot! **looks at imran**

Dean was not a whackjob, anymore than Ronnie Raygun, who was much more likely to make insane little comments. Dean had the sort of honesty that does not play well anymore with the public. He also has a weird and offputting smile.

Given the current fetish for non-stories about candidates and fake, amde up scandals, the press would have gone after him endlessly.

It wasn't because of his political beliefs, but rather his lack of reading comprehension.

If you are a wackjob, you have to exist in a time period where people want drastic change and can deflect your crazy comments with other personality traits.

Many people do want dramatic change.

I guess anger does not count as the other personality trait?

angry and crazy are not the same thing, by far.

That people mistakenly think so is not Dean's fault.

But angry solidifies the 'crazy' perception. Americans would rather have their President not get angry and throw temper tantrums.

Of course it is... he's a politician. He should know how people's perceptions will affect his votes.

I have to say that Kerry is screwing up a lot. Enough to where the race is still 50/50. He'd have to stop making careless mistakes to win.

See that's kinda the way I felt. I sorta liked the YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAHHHHHHHHHHH it made him more human to me. Prone to make mistakes as we all are, human not stuffy and reading from a teleprompter but willing to show his emotions and get fired up about something. Which this day and age getting fired up about something and being pationate about it might not be such a bad thing. Instead of cold, unfeeling and teleprompter material.

That's what I like about Kerry. He isn't emotional. He's calm and collected and seems the type that would think everything through before making a decision.

I agree with MrFun; the American people would never vote a boring, loser idiot into office. They'll only vote in a loser idiot like Bush, who isn't boring at all due to the fact that there is no way of predicting what he'll propose as essential for the stability of civilization next. We're talking about a man who successfully made the middle east a more hopeless mess than it already was, which I for one did not realize was possible. The public will elect anyone, but they won't stand for boredom, it seems.

If i was sure that a given politician shared my feelings, id be ok with them being all emotional. But I dont, and all in all id rather have them be calculating.

Did we ever have a President who was more calculating than FDR?? Or one who was more tormented by inner anger (though better disguised and much more tormented than in Deans case) than Nixon??

Which makes it even more interesting... because Reagan was the God of charasmatic presidents, which provided a major contrast to the wooden Bush I. At least he used Reagan on the campaign trail (while Gore refused to have Clinton campaign on his behalf).
