The thing about KOTOR is that you're stuck in one place, much like final fantasy games. Thus combat is repetive and all you have to do is know what techniques to select.

Well I went back to BGI à l'ordinaire last night and once again played to the Friendly Arm Inn. This time it didn't play on because it asked for CD2 in the C drive!
The C drive?!!!??!?!?!? The other two CDs were requested in the D drive, and it all worked fine. I'm mightily ****ed off now, especially as I had a kick-ass paladin with STR, DEX and CHA of 18, and WIS of 17.
I reckon that I'm going to copy the save file into my documents or some dump file, then de- and reinstal BGI and start again, copying the save files back into the save folder. Does this sound as if it will work?

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

You can back up your save files and reinstall and move them back in. Make sure first though there isn't character information saved elsewhere.

It seems a strange error. Make sure you try again after a reboot before squashing the old install.

Jamski, where would such files be kept, if they indeed exist?

Yes, it's another round of "Ask Jamski", the hilarious panel game with a difference. And here's your host....... Jamski!

There's a very good chance you only need the save files. Still, probably best to wait until Jamski returns from the world of Folderol.

I was recently playing this game. It is easy, I have set it to hard difficutly because normal is no challenge. I find on normal level I never use any special items like traps or grenades. I never need them. I can melee everything with no problem.

The only fight I found hard was that Starkiller guy. The guy who only does death matches on Taris. He's only hard because I purposely put off levelling up so I can get more Jedi levels. But I had to level up to level 5 to get him.

I did the full install. Which BG do you have? The 3 disk set or the 6 disk set?

I have had problems with the 6 disk set, but not the 3.

the save files should be all you need. I have switched them around. Look around and make sure there isn't a folder named characters though. I don't think there is, but if there is, save those as well.

Yeah my main character, a soldier just melees everything with his lightsabre+upgraded vibroblade prototype (yup the weapon you get right in the beginning). There's no real need for better weapons seeing i'm doing huge damage already.

I wouldn't know how to use the mines anyway, most of the times they don't run at you but simply fire a blaster.
Annoying thing is it's very time consuming to switch from melee to ranged and vice versa, especially with that console inventory.. it's awful! Actually the combat is very easy and one sided, but the choices you can make are quite diverse!

Go and talk KotoR in the designated thread!

I've got the 3 disc version.

It all works fine now!
I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and it now asks for drive D:, which is exactly what it should do. My paladin is back in action, but doing decidedly un-paladin-like things. I felt that I had to hire Xzar and Montaron as mercenaries to take us to the Friendly Arm, but now we've arrived they're history and I had to go and take Khalid and Jaheira to beat up extra hobgoblins to salve my conscience. In fact, I could probably have made it to the Inn without the evil characters, but I didn't want to take a chance. The Lord has work for me to do!

Well I had the same problem with going to the Friendly Arm. But with Tutu it would just crash and leave me looking at my (conventional blue) desktop, instead of the loading screen saying "please insert CD2 into drive C:"I'm not sure that I had everything installed properly and patched properly, and decided that the quick fix was just to start playing BG. I also noticed that Gorion's assailant takes 1HP off you in the ordinary game too. But I had more than 1HP at the time and it didn't matter.

Its expecting that you made a full install by copying all the discs to your C drive (Which is a GREAT idea, btw. Never have to swop discs!)

You can look in one of the .ini files and tell BG what path to look for the discs on.

If it's more than recommended and you have the space then yes. On many games you never need the cds apart from to launch.

oh yes, in BG1 you have to click Custom.

And then click everything. It will say you don't have enough disk space, I think this deals with the fact they didn't have ultra large hard drives back when this game was made . Go ahead and click to continue.

I never have found a no-cd crack for Baldur's Gate or BG2. But just having the expansion disks in the drive is good enough. You never have to switch.

Hmm. This thread hasn't had a single post since I went on holiday. But I'm back now, and it'll be back on the front page before you can say "Are you still playing that bloody game?"

I'm tempted to have a quicker game this time round, so may well cut down on some of the subquests. Which should I definitely do, and which will just get me some extra cash and rep +1s that I don't need? I'm going after the bracers as worn by one of the two gentlemen south of Nashkel for certain as Kivan can make great use of them, but the other items lying around may well depend upon how I feel at the time. My party is currently:
Mildred (paladin 18, 18, 14, 12, 15, 18 - I'm going to nick the cloak and get CHA 20 though. )
Khalid
Kivan
Jaheira
Imoen (going for a mage at level 3, though this will mean I'll be in trouble with the traps in the mines)

My problem is that I always need to do all the quests I can find. I don't know why but I just can't quickly finish the game again.. I also have that mania when playing FPS games. I want every mutha****a/monstar down on the ground before I go to the next level

pretty odd since in general I'm very careless and lazy in real life

I learned things like this from civ2.

I just couldn't leave squares unexplored. I had to explore everything. I'm the same way in RPG's. I cannot leave black spaces on the map. So in BG1, I'll go around and explore every inch of the outdoor areas even though I know by now, there is nothing in those particular areas.

It borders on compulsion . But I'm not an obsessive/compulsive person. go figure.

Three freaks doesn't make it normal, but we're on the verge of having enough to start an asylum.

I'll probably go and do all of the quests anyway, although if I missed some before then I may miss them, just by being unable to remember. The temptation to use a walkthrough may be resisted (Jamski ).....
I did let my friend use my laptop while I was on holiday, and he sacked the cave of the ankhegs (all right, with a lot of my help), which I just walked past when playing before, excited to visit BG. His characters all kept getting killed because they were only level 2 or so and unbuffed, so I got him to send one character with plenty of HP and a decent strength to just "liberate" all the stuff and leave the ankhegs in peace. How lawful good of me, caring about all the nice little monsters!
