why is suicide considered selfish. I don't have a family of my own. I really wouldn't be hurting anyone. I do have 1 parent and 2 brothers. But we aren't a real loving family. I do have 1 dog, but she'd get over it. I got her from someone else. She cried a few days, and she was okay.

Sometimes the pain hurts so freakin' bad, that it seems to be better to die than go on.

I really don't have many people in my life. social anxiety does that to you. or me at least. it affects people differently I'd guess.

I may just bit the bullet and try antidepressents. They are advertised for treating depression and anxiety. Can they do both at the same time. Seems like a miracle drug to me. I have my doubts it can work. and those side effects...

I could never actually kill myself though. I'm not sure why. Something seems to stop me. I've never attempted it. Although men usually don't have attempted suicides, they usually succeed. It's women that "try" to committ suicide. Although there are exceptions.

Perhaps not...but if someone is rather withdrawn and likely to try and isolate themselves, internet communities facilitate this. It may actually make them feel they 'belong' or whatever and so give them more of a reason to live, but equally it could make them withdraw from personal contact to an even greater extent and leave them feeling desolate and alone, having no connection with their family and real life friends.

I agree that for most people it has no effect, but for some people....its a bad idea.

it does, but i don't see how the argument to the person that 'suicide is selfish' would make them not want to do it, y'know?
guilt-trip them into not committing suicide, when guilt is what drove them there in the first place?

A good friend of mine hung himself last week too
I was really amazed because he was not a loner at all.. he looked at life pretty positively (or so I thought) and I can't say I've ever seen him angry or pissed off about something. Now THAT I don't understand.

In the situation here the guy spends his days behind his computer etc... Friends on the internet is great, but If you don't get out in real life after a while you get depressed anyway.

I think it is beautfil in a way, that whole 'virtual' communities unite to show support.

i read their thread and saw many people from other forums coming to express their grief and best wishes.

This person who felt so lonely and who couldn't fit in life, has now got more people thinking of him than he could ever imagine.

Makes you wonder what a really small place the world is becoming.

Actually I left a suicide note here before, my attempt failed, but I had given away my login to Alexander's Horse... so I lost the login Evan von Christoph... it all blew up in my face...

You'd be surprised how much a message board can mean to a person that has little or no contact with people.

I'm just glad I'm not as depressed as I used to be, it did take about 500mg combined of Anti-depressants though... who would have thought?

This indeed makes me sad, but hopefully the pain will be over for him, that isn't guarenteed so I've learned.

Suicide is the result of many factors. It is a mental illness that can be treated. When the pain seems overwhelming and you start to think that death is a real option, get some help. Go see a doctor. Call a suicide prevention hotline. Talk to people here.

I tried a couple and the side effects ruined them for me... but I also tried counseling and that helped a lot. I also think that, if I can convince my doctor to get me a CPAP machine, that will help a great deal by giving me more energy thruout the day. I always feel much better when I accomplish tasks...
