Cannes : The Palme d'or awarded to an american movie Put an end to popups!

I have not yet seen this movie, but I understood that it is a kind of apologia of a recent US President by a witty M.Moore.

Well, you can't say you're surprised.

Personally, Michael Moore is somewhat revolting to me. He's too much of a stereotypical american.

Michael Moore - tells it like it is
Cannes - should reward the quality of the film, not its message

I'm sure its very worthy. But I'm also sure I don't need to see it to know that it is far from the standard expected of a Palme d'Or winner.

Put an end to popups!

I have not seen it - but I have read something about it.

Is SEEMS like it has deserved that price - it hits its target. On the other hand, the US just invite themself now-a-days.

"Palme D'Or" sounds like the Swedish police would spend 20 years trying to decide whether it should or should not be awarded to Christer Petterson.

Canadians and their Napoleon complex... sad, really.

I'm pretty sure that it's NOT worthy of the Palme d'or, especially considering that his films have gradually been declining in quality ever since the fantastic "Roger & Me".

I love the comment from Danish Lars von Trier after winning last year's Palme d'or for "Dogville" (starring Nicole Kidman, recorded in Sweden).

Q: How can you make a critical film about America when you haven't even been there yourself?
A: The makers of "Casablanca" never went to Africa, did they?

Then again, it wasn't a critical film of Africa, so the point is moot.

Jam--

I heard a LA Times critic on the radio, who was at Cannes. According to him, it is Moore's best film to date simply from an artistic standpoint, whatever one thinks of his politics.

Also of note, a plurality of the Cannes jury are American.

It wasn't about Africa at all. It was about World War 2 on the surface and the core of the movie is about love and what we must do for it - the sacrifices we must make. The film was SET in africa.

So, if I set a film on Mars in the year 2039 that means I have to visit Mars, 2039??? Ridiculous.

Suffering from ads?

Exactly

von Trier's point was that most of his media feed is from America, so he knows more about America than any other country in the world, even more than those he actually visited himself.
